Changing Your Leatherworking Specialization

Unlearn Leatherworking entirely. You will lose all your patterns when you do this!

Press 'K', by default, to open up your skill menu.
Scroll to find your current profession. Click on it.
Look for the red circle with a slash through it, next to the profession to unlearn.
Find a trainer and re-learn Leatherworking.
Level Leatherworking back to at least 225.
Travel to Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris and search for the gnome, 納里安‧柔想, located inside a hut at /way 65 18:
Inside Narain's hut, you'll find a 新手的預言入門 sitting on a table. Right-click on the book to read it. This book allows you to change specializations that you've previously learned with your profession without an additional quest or fee.
Find the new Leatherworking specialization trainer and pick up the quests to learn the new specialization.

Best Leatherworking Gear in WoW Classic

This takes me back. Skin/LW were my main's professions (he was/is a hunter), and I found it very helpful.

If you're not in a huge hurry to level, I always found that staying in the lower level zones once your questing is complete and grinding mobs for leather was a great way to keep your LW skill aligned with your character's level. I was often able to create gear that I was too low level to wear; I looked forward to reaching the right level so I could wear it, such as the Tough Scorpid set. When my hunter switched from leather to mail, I had a full mail set ready for me!

the information for horde NPC Una as the expert LW trainer is wrong in the current Classic WoW version. Una is artisan trainer not expert. same for the artisan trainer listed as expert for horde, it's telling you to go to the master trainer not artisan.

迅捷之靴 Actually has a one hour cool-down, not 15 minutes, unless there is an upgrade to the boots or pattern that I am unaware of.

You can do 190-210 (and maybe even beyond, it turns yellow at 210 and green at 220) by doing 守護手套 (4x 重皮, 1x 熟化重毛皮, 1x 絲線), which is currently 3 to 4 times cheaper than the 暗色護腕 suggested in the guide.

For those that got stuck at the end: Once you finish the quest where you pass the letter to the LW in Darnassus, the final quest is not automatically given to you. I was also confused here. It turns out you just need to physically go to your final NPC (for me it was Caryssia Moonhunter since I am ally) and you can pick up the final quest from her and then turn it in there as well. Once you do that, you will officially be a Tribal LW.

The suggested leveling path is iffy at best. I'm already wasting time and gold running from the AH to the trainer to make up for lapses in the guide.

For example upon learning fine leather belt at 115 it was already yellow, and went green at 125. So the amount needed in the guide is incorrect.

Concerning the Suggested leveling path, just getting to 150 it is a poor guide. I would recommend finding another guide for this purpose.

This guide says to make Fine Leather Belts to get from 125 to 135. This cannot be correct. Fine leather belts go green at 125, but are a perfecly fine way to level up from (say) 100 to 125.

Yes, I understand that Fine Leather Belts are needed to make Dark Leather Belts, and that Dark Leather Belts require in toto fewer materials to make than any other orange recipe at skill 135. BUT, why not make the Fine Leather Belts earlier and get better skill-ups from doing so?

Nice guide but I've seen multiple errors. Maybe you should've proofread or fact checked before posting.

For example, " Pattern: Frostsaber Boots - Sold by Qia in Un'Goro Crater, skill level 275." Qia is in Everlook not Un'goro.
Also, " Pattern: Chimeric Gloves - Sold by Blimo Gadgetspring in Ashenvale, skill level 265." He is in Azshara.

Created an account just to make a suggestion for this guide. Going from ~285 to 300 is much easier with Runic Leather Bracers: 符文皮甲護腕 . This recipe is red until 295, then yellow until 300.

The recipe for Wicked Leather Headband is a world drop only, and the drop rate is incredibly low (much lower than the ~2% quoted on this site; I killed almost 200 Jadefire Satyrs with no drop). On the other hand, Runic Leather Bracers have a much higher drop rate. On my server the recipe was 65 silver and there were three available the only time I looked.

You don't get Handstiched Leather Cloak until 60, but Handstiched Leather Boots take the same mats.

Difference is, Boots are yellow at 40 :(

The quest "Tribal Leatherworking" is definitely not given to you by the NPC noted in the guide (TB NPC for Horde and Darnassus NPC for Alliance). Those instructions in the guide are incorrect. You simply need to go find the Tribal Leatherworking NPCs (STV and 1000 needles) for this quest.

The leveling path in this guide might be the fastest, but it's not the cheapest. Up until quite recently, the crafting cost of these items was cheaper than their vendor cost. That is, I could buy the mats on the AH, then resell the items to vendor for a profit. If you plan on simply vendoring items, these are the best ones to go with while leveling:

山地護肩
野人護肩 or 迅猛龍皮背心 depending on the price of 迅猛龍的外皮 (goes for just above vendor on my server)
夜色外套
重型蠍殼外衣
邪惡皮甲頭環

There are a few gaps, but if you craft even while things are green (and why not if you're able to sell to vendor for a profit?), you can level leatherworking very cheaply. Prices of low level leather is starting to rise, so make sure to start leveling as soon as you can.

Nice guide, but a little inaccurate.

Regarding Dragonscale - Worn scales also drop off the regular dragonkin in the marshland outside the temple in Swamp of Sorrows. No need to actually go into the dungeon - but look out for the big ass dragon

Regarding Elemental - Nah, you done good.

Regarding Tribal - This takes just as long as the other specialties, it is merely coincidence that the quest giver asks for Wild Leather items. (see below)

Regarding Wild Leather - Jangdor Swiftstrider is the Master Leatherworking Trainer. This chain is unrelated to the Tribal specialty and can be completed by a default leather smith before choosing a specialty. This makes your guide unclear whom the trainer is for Tribal so you should give Wild Leather it's own section above all the specialty sections. For those who didn't figure it out, Tribal's trainer is Se'Jib in Strangelthorn Vale.

The new flow should be:

Apprentice > Journeyman > Expert > Artisan > Master (including Wild Leather chain) > Choose your Specialty

Finally, all three specialty trainers for Horde are located in Eastern Kingdoms zones - how messed up is that? Dragonscale is in Arathi, Elemental is in Badland, Tribal is in Stranglethorn Vale. Meanwhile, two Alliance trainers are in Kalimdor - Azshara, and Feralas, while the last is in Searing Gorge.

I have Tribal Leatherworking specialty. I've gone back to Un-Goro a h alf-dozen times and Nergal never seems to have the Pattern for Devilsaur Gauntlets. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

The wild leather boots and legs quests are given by Jangdor after completing the wild leather shoulder, vest, and helm quests. Not completable in any order as the guide says. Thanks for the guide.

If you're Alliance i would recommend doing 山地披風 instead of 重型護甲片. 山地披風 is needed for a quest in 希爾斯布萊德丘陵 and do fetch some gold on the AH.

Got to the part where it said "Start by collecting the following items to help make your life a bit easier:" Would have been nice if they'd mentioned that's not ALL YOU NEED. I thought I'd have everything I needed once I gathered this. It doesn't say anywhere that you need to level leather working further and to learn artisan. It doesn't tell you you need more patterns than the ones you know or that he'll give you. I got through the first few items before I realized I'd actually need to level leather working further, after making the gear capped at 225. He just says to do the quest. Doesn't mention there's a lot more to it than that.

Heavy Hides are pretty hard to get with their low skin rate, and depending on your server can be expensive. Instead of continuing to rely upon them until 220 like the guide says, you should probably move on to Thick Leather at 200. I had plenty of heavy leather to convert upwards at this point from farming the last few hides I needed, taking me to 205 and then I suggest Nightscape Headbands or Thick Armor Kits to 220.

The Journeyman section is a bit of a mess. I can't tell what's really recommended versus being the alternative options. I realize there's a lot of crossover making it difficult to map, but for a newb it's almost indecipherable.

Another massive problem with this guide is that it wants you to make only 15 Cured Heavy Hide.
But later crafts require an absolute minimum of 40 Cured Heavy Hide (10 Barbaric Shoulders and 30+ Guardian Gloves until the craft turns green).

Even ignoring the problem that Heavy Hide is exceptionally rare; if you're going to need at least 40 Cured Heavy Hide, you should make them while they're giving skillups - even at green difficulty.

By far and away the biggest problem with the guide's advice, is that it's minimising for the much more abundant mats (Leathers), and maximising on the very rare mats (Hides)!
This only serves to drive up demand for, and therefore further reduce availability of Hides.

And choosing appropriate crafts to use up all their available hides, and then fill in with those only needing regular leather (even if it does mean more leather per craft).

Use the Auction House to help you level your professions. If you can sell an item for what it costs you to make, or even better, if you can make a profit on it, you should craft it until it is gray and sell it on the AH. Profitable items will vary from server to server so you'll have to check your local auction house to find out what works for your situation.

Has someone tallied up how many of each leather type one needs to level up all the way to 300? If, say, someone makes a new character and learns skinning with the idea being to hoard all the necessary leathers and hides in the bank.

"*If you are planning to learn Tribal Leatherworking, be sure to hold on to your Nightscape armor for quest turn-ins!" Would be nice to put this directly after the instructions on leveling using them. Mine had all been sold/DE'ed by the time I saw this sentence.

According to this Wowhead Leatherworking Guide choosing ONE specialty in Season of Discovery (Phase 5) was removed and ALL specialties can be trained by following the appropriate quest line:

Leatherworking Specializations in Phase 6
Since Phase 5 of Season of Discovery, leatherworkers have been able to choose more than one specialization, simply by completing multiple specialization quests. The section below on Leatherworking Specializations, has been updated to reflect this.

So, save your sanity, leather and time & KEEP the following quantities of these items you've used to level the craft:

This is, without a doubt, the absolute worst written wowhead guide I have ever seen. (And the current wowhead guide for 5/8 t2 regrowth spec druid has you only wearing 4 pc t2, so taking the crown from them is quite the accomplishment.)

If you are looking for a simple guide to follow to buy materials so you're not running back and forth to the AH, this guide is not it. The quantities for things are way off, and what it tells you is needed for each individual craft is not accurate.

It is painfully clear the whoever wrote this guide has never leveled leatherworking in their life. 0/10.

Medium Armor Kits are yellow at 115, and go green at 122.. there is no way you are getting from 115-125, even if it stayed yellow the whole time.. Dark Leather Boots go yellow at 127 also, so again, you're not getting 10 levels from making 2 orange and 8 yellow crafts. You end up needing ~16 dark leather boots and you start making them at 122 whem medium armor kits go green.

Please also stop swapping items out because someone posts that it is cheaper to do a different item. Add all of the suggestions, as what is cheap on one server is *not* neccesarily on another.

Pretty good guide. A little unclear on the step to pick up !Master of Wild Leather. The guide says:
"Once you have completed all five quests, visit your next trainer to pick up the next quest. All you have to do to complete this quest is talk to them, and receive Pattern: Wild Leather Cloak Pattern: Wild Leather Cloak.
Master of the Wild Leather Master of the Wild Leather - Telonis, Darnassas, /way 64, 64
Master of the Wild Leather Master of the Wild Leather - Una, Thunder Bluff, /way 41, 42"
What is important to note is that you need to start the quest there and finish it at the next trainer. Took quite a while to figure this out.

for 260-270 you can just do the gauntlets to 300, literally bought the bracer recipe for no reason, same matts, same everything , why even go through the trouble to list different items ...
