onyxia scale cloak does not stop this from hurting you.

you may resist sometimes, but other times u will take the full 5k dmg.

Am gonna make a prediction that this will be the 51 point talent ability in the Warlock Destruction tree once the level cap is raised to 80 in the future or beyond.

Obviously a scaled down version in terms of the damage from this lovely version though that the black drakes of BWL get to use! :P~

This is the initial shadowflame spell aka the breath, part 1 of 3 components to Shadowflame.

Onyxia Scale Cloak prevents the other two parts of this attack:
Damage over Time - 1750 - 2250 Shadow Damage every sec for 10 sec. Cannot be resisted or removed via immunities; damage pierces immunities.
Explosion - 20000 Shadow Damage when DoT expires. Cannot be resisted; pierces immunities.

For Tanks:
You can fully resist Shadow Flame, but your chance to do so is normally only 1-2%.
You cannot partially resist Shadow Flame's damage. It is a binary spell, so you will always take full damage when it hits.
Shadow resistance won't make a difference without a full resist set, which isn't recommended. (Resist: 0% at <~90; 1% at ~90; 4% at 210; 25% at 315 - excludes 1% spell miss chance).
Cloaks don't protect against the breath's initial damage. Accidentally striking the raid with a breath will one-shot anyone under 4k hp regardless. Outside of Nefarian, non-tanks should not be wearing a cloak.
