Farshmak

i got few hundred of them in bank. theres a good thing to store these if you get the chance. me and my few buddies went fishin all day (December 20) and i got quite a load of this great seafood. rogue and hunter energy food :) when cooked it gives you 10 agility. best "well fed" food for rogues at all levels.

Anyone know where to get the grilled squid receipe?

Allakhazam

It's probably seasonal reading the tough luck on these posts, and maybe time-of-day sensitive. I started fishing in Tanaris only recently upon reaching lvl 40 and completing the artisan fishing quest (it's late October) and think I caught 4 or 5 while fishing for 10 Zesty clam meat (cooking quest), maybe a half hour give or take. Didn't note time of day, just took it for granted. Also caught maybe 6 stonescale eels which go for about a gold EACH. Needless to say, came back quite a few times, caught more stonescales, but no squid until tonight about 11pm EST (i think 8 server time), caught 8 squid over the next 30 minutes, but they stopped biting soon there after, and while I'm still catching many stonescales, no squid. But I'm only now paying attention and don't have it down to a science. Hope this helps...

Allakhazam

Haven't seen this ever. Started in Feb 2005, now May, and my fishing is 300. Also, never seen a lobster, or a Large Raw Mightfish.

Allakhazam

Scroll down to read some really arrogant posts! Anyway, on April 9, 2007 I was able to catch a number of these off the docks in Steamwheedle Port, Tanaris.

As many of you are probably quick to surmise, April is not winter.

So much for "doing the research!" (again, scroll down, and you'll see what I'm talking about).

At the time, my fishing skill was around 280, including buffs for pole and lures.

Allakhazam

I think it works out that in r/l if its winter then its winter in WoW, apart from that the name of the fish tells u the season....they can still be caught off the beaches at Feathermoon Feraras...

Allakhazam

There seems to be some debate on this fish on when it can be caught. There are two restrictions on catching it:
1) It can only be caught in winter. As soon as spring starts, you begin to catch Raw Summer Bass.
2) It can only be caught during the day. Meaning when the sun icon is in on the mini-map.

These are dropping again... I fished up 70 of them when I was farming Eels in the Bay of Storms in Azshara... >400 skill required for best catch rate

Allakhazam

"isnt it a bit obvious wut season we are in?" No, it's not because the season seems to change as my toon walks around the world. Oh, did you mean in RL? In that case NO, it's still not becasue for half of the world it is winter! USA != The World

This is one of the dumbest ideas for fishing ever. Lets nerf fishing more by adding fish that can only be caught half the year. It's not that seasonal fish bother me, it's that they are used to make a cooking recipe for +10 Agi vs. +10 Spirit for Summer Bass. Boo! Sorry melee classes, you want that extra dodge percetage, too bad, wait till December.

Yup, teh squid are out in full swing. 2 hours of fishing off the hinterlands coast netted me 54 of these, plus 30+ stonescale eels and 30+ firefins. Not a bad day of fishing. Now i just have to sell them for a high prce before ppl realize they will be here fora while.

I've caught them, but it was during the winter.

Allakhazam

I caught a dozen of these about a week ago in a one-day span, then maybe one or two since- all in Steamwheedle port.

Allakhazam

There seems to be a lot of speculation about when and where. Here's a few answers for those of you who can't seem to find the willpower to research.

1: Winter squid are only available in the winter.
2: It is strongly suggested that you have a fishing skill of at least 205 before attempting to catch winter squid.

And to answer those endless questions about when it is considered winter in-game, think of this:

World of Warcraft In-Game Events Calendar

The Feast of Winter Veil? That's in the winter. It is also in December. Question answered.

In the future, before spamming comments, please make some attempt to do a little research. Otherwise you just end up looking like a complete idiot to those of us who spend 3 minutes looking up all the necessary information.

These are now catchable in classic at least as of this morning. I have been expecting this since there are so many comments from back in Vanilla days below indicating that they started being fished in late September.

I caught 7 on a 10-minute lure at about 6:10 AM server time this morning at Steamwheedle (275+100 fishing). During this 10 minutes, I did not catch a single summer bass, so I don't know if that means that there will be no overlap when both can be caught or not. Too small of a sample size.

Комментарий от swordstrike

I fished in Azshara for 1 hour with some light movement around the bay area. I did this fishing at 3pm to 4pm server time or so. This is what I fished up in that time with a little bit of travel time included. I included clam and box contents in the list (but didn't keep track of the containers just the contents)

Darkclaw lobster 76
Winter squid 46
large raw mightfish 9
raw spotted yellowtail 10
stonescale eel 5
7 pound lobster 1
zesty clam meat 17
solid blasting powder 1

This was done on Classic WoW on the Faerlina NA server

Topshelf

In response to an earlier post about fishing these in and around Steamweedle Port. This was my experience between the hours of 00:20 and 02:00 server time.

30mins. 300 skill +20

14 Glossy Mightfish
35 Spotted Yellowtail
10 Rockscale Cod
11 Firefin Snapper
14 Stonescale Eel

Then further south on Wavestrider Beach

30min. 300 skill +20

9 Glossy Mightfish
35 Spotted Yellowtail
13 Rockscale Cod
13 Firefin Snapper
12 Stonescale Eel

Maybe this is just anecdotal, but I have come to the conclusion that this area is NOT good for Winter Squid. I'm now heading for Bay of Storms.

Re: Bay of Strorms fishing:

If you are going to see Duke Hydro for something, by all means just fish from his island. However, if you are not going that far, the quickest way to get to the good fishing area, at least for Horde, seems to be to ride through the Ruins of El'Darath. There are several ways out onto the beach from there, the best possibly being on the northerly side of the ruins at about 40,48 or so. You can use this same path to get back as well if you do not want to burn your hearth when you are returning. If you are 60, you should be able to come and go with little to no aggro from the naga.

Here's the thing though. The map would have you believe that the entire beach is Bay of Storms but, at least for fishing, this is not actually the case. You need to get off the coast a little bit to one of the islands. The jetty at 52,49 or even the island near there that is very close to shore do not count. You can tell you are in the wrong spot if it lets you cast at 300 (or even 300+25) without telling you your fishing level is too low. If you fish from there, you are not getting the bonus droprate for winter squid (basically like fishing from Tanaris or the Hinterlands). If you have to apply a lure and are catching lots of lobsters and the blue mightfish (large raw) instead of the green (raw glossy), you are in the right place.

There is a small island out from the end of the jetty (52,49 or so) that is a short swim that I have been using and it seems to work well.

My experience on the Mankrik Classic Server on 10/9/2019

I used 2 x Аквадинамический магнит для рыбы and 10 x Яркая побрякушка
My pole was a Большая железная удочка +20 fishing (You get from Shellfish Traps in Desolace - 1% or so drop rate)

My fishing skill is 300, so I had 420 skill with Аквадинамический магнит для рыбы and 395 with Яркая побрякушка
I had a rate of around 12% "Your fish got away" messages (didn't have any with the Аквадинамический магнит для рыбы equipped)

I am alliance, and did this entire fishing session in Azshara during morning hours (around 7-9:30 am server time)
I fished entirely in Bay of Storms... (made sure I couldn't cast without the fishing lure beforehand - since the bay requires 330 to even cast)

My results:

Hope this helps! Good luck, and don't forget your beer!

Like Raw Nightfin, Winter Squid have certain time windows where their catch % goes up or becomes non-existent (minus Azshara, Bay of Storms being 24/7.

“ Winter Squid are seasonal, and can only be caught between the September (Autumn/Fall) and March (Spring) equinox (approximately 22 September to 20 March). Highest catch rate 12:00-18:00. Cannot be caught 00:00-06:00, except in the Bay of Storms area of Azshara. ”

Spotted Yellowtail : 49 / 2.5%
Reinforced Locked Chest : 11 / 0.6%
Heavy Crate : 6 / 0.3%
Various rare fish : 14 / 0.9%

By rare fish I mean 7 pound lobsters, 12 pound lobsters, etc.

Maybe I'm seeing a pattern that isn't there, but...

Most of the time I go fishing for squid, during prime catch time in Bay of Storms, I average about 5-7 squid per ADFA. That is, until I start on the third stack. Around 45 squid in my bags, the rate goes WAY down, sometimes without catching even one per ADFA. I hearth, cook it up, send it to my squid-storage alt, go back, and the catch rate goes right back up.

Hope this helps others who might be frustrated.
