the only impact it'll have is if a major addon dev gives up with wow in general because retail is going scorched earth for whatever reasoni think it'd be bonkers to force the 5 classic devs to also work on an addon suite and i don't get the point of this article
It already has. Several addons that were limping along since late 2020/2021 are now broken and unlikely to be restored. Blizzard is doing this now so that when Midnight releases, anyone who returns to the game and complains can be fed the line "where were you x months ago?" then dismissed. They've truly taken their seat at the Microsoft table by starting to do things that nobody wants or asked for, for... reasons? IMO theyre trying to kill Classic. If they do come out with a classic plus, I expect them to go WAAAAYYYYYY too far with how close to retail they make it, instead of giving people what they wanted (which amounts to new content + quality of life improvements)
Short answer: no Longer answer: no as it implies we are getting WOD classic
All future version of the game, including new/returning versions of Classic, should use the retail UI and Edit Mode, along with the combat API restrictions.
There are some QOL add ons like Bar Tender and ElvUI that are so much nicer for bar/button options and placement that I hope they do not get rid of. I understand they are saying "combat addons" but I sure hope they do not mess with those as there are lots of players that prefer the scaling and ability to customize the way their screen looks more so than what the base UI even the new base UI will allow you to customize it.
My wishlist for all modes of wow:Bring back pvp servers.Hardcore servers.No-addon servers.
Except they're not taking away visual customisation... People seem to keep missing this point. And to the people say no one asked for this - maybe you didn't ask for it, and your circle of friends didn't, but many people dislike the combat addon culture in WoW. The game should not be designed around WA and DBM as it has been. That is my opinion and I am glad combat addons are gone. Visual addons are not gone, and I am happy about that. This is a good change for the game.
This is how they will kill WoW finally.
I'm very sceptic to the point they are making for these changes. Weakaura's didn't Solve a mechanic, since you still had to move to a spot or soak at a spot. All of these things just saved us some time and we didn't have to waste several minutes setting up the markers and making the assignments and micro managing all these things befor we even get to pull the boss. Please give me a mechanic that was solved by a weakaura? As in you don't have to do anything yourself, Press a button, move to a spot, soak a thing drop something of somewhere... None. The only actual things i've seen weakaura's do is Simplify assignments put some markers on people letting em know they have a mechanic on em and they need to deal with it. I'd rather have my alarm going off when i stand in stuff and have a marker on my head or a weakaura letting me know i've got a debuff so i can respond to the thing and move. Then not having em and just die cause i'm a melee standing with a dozen other people whacking the boss while there's Dozens of circles flying around and Orbs moving not having a audio queue or a big marker that's Not another purple thing in a dark purple dungeon, a Purple wall coming from behind a purple wall is going to work. We need our Audio Queu's and our Contrasting reminders, the raid Designers care more about the Esthetics and having a certain color palette then imo they do about making sure that circle coming doesn't blend in with the environment and all the similar color stuff already there. And can we please change the color of our spells so one DK's Death and decay is different from the other dk's death and decay, or Paladin Consecrations etc. Well as far as i know all the markers that get put on people to let em know "hey you got this thing buddy maybe think about reacting to it" are going away since it requires a weakaura or addon to know when you've got a debuff or let you know hero is being used like say a funny line when hero pops or let you have a note reminding you of your assignment or you saying how much time you got on a debuff or have a countdown for a mechanic being said or just saying your name or a marker. Not every raiding Guild has the luxury of 20+ people being there every raid or has the time to assign stuff for several minutes, or just put markers for a minute or three. And since weakaura's is as good as dead know i can't even customise my ui to have a Mushroom Health Bar or a Mushroom Cursor Marker or just to have some Personalisation so that i can adjust my experience to better fit my strenghts and weaknesses, There's not a single solution that fits all some respond better to sound then visuals while others respond better to Visuals. For example Mythic Araz, How am i going to track the Hp of the 3 pylons without weakaura's? How much time are we going to lose when our raidleader has to put the markers manually every time ? Scorched Earth on addons is probably the worst they can do. Like i'd rather they'd have taken the philosophy that they used with the New Ui improvements and just run it along side , Like i used to have Action bar addons and elvui's and stuff now i don't, and guess what they didn't have to scorched earth those addons. And classic? Think classic will be fine, they first going to experiment and do retail and who knows when they got the stuff figured out they'll maybe touch classic eventually but it won't be anytime soon, more like "Soon Tm". Are we going to waste hours over a season doing the management and assigning everything? Probably, i know that people don't like spending hours after every big patch fixing ui's and stuff, but i also know people also don't want to waste several minutes per boss having to go trough the strategy assignments and group setups every time. People want to play the game, Not get more chores on the plate of their raidleader just so they can eventually hopefully maybe lead the raid . My Guild has a great raidleader, but not every guild has the luxury of one and having the need for a raidleader get even more important isn't going to help raids, do content and have more fun doing it while still having a challenge and not waste anymore time then we have to. Wow already feels like a full time job and a lot of people already don't want to volunteer to pick up a bomb or stand in front of a beam or go fetch that ghost. I'm just hoping they know what their doing and aren't going to handicap and frustrate people more by taking away the tools and solutions people use to handle mechanics and make things go smooth and efficient or all the Personalisation and customisation to make people's ui's their own. If they want to do a good job and get the things out that we need they may aswell do the whole sjebang and add personalisation and customisation to the list. I suspect the goal is about porting to console and not having people earn money making addons/weakaura's of their Game. But hey i could be wrong and i'll let them have the benefit of the doubt especially on the money thing. Hopefully they'll do a good job.
