In the most recent
Design Intentions Blue Post
, Blizzard details updates regarding Dungeon Set 2, Dire Maul, PvP, and other changes. Many of these changes will have a major impact on Season of Mastery, especially on Pre-Raid BiS and even Phase 1 BiS.
Season of Mastery launches on November 16, 2021
.
Dungeon Set 2
One notable aspect of our content phases is the decision to make the Dungeon Set 2 (AKA “tier 0.5”) questlines available at launch.
Dungeon Set 2 being available at launch is a pretty significant change for nearly every class. While
Rogue
s will see the biggest difference in power from gear and likely wear the set for an extremely long time, many classes will see drastic changes to their Best in Slot lists because of the loot that drops from the summoned bosses from the Dungeon Set 2 quest chain.
Dungeon Set 2 Walkthrough Guide
Items from Phase 5
Changes made in patch 1.10 to dungeon rewards will be in place at the launch of Season of Mastery. This includes the availability of Idols, Librams, and Totems, as well as the adjusted drop locations and drop rates of some items such as the Hand of Justice in Blackrock Depths.
Many of the items available only in Phase 5 content from the
Dungeon Set 2 quest chain
,
Cannon Master Willey
,
Lord Roccor
,
Warchief Rend Blackhand
, and other bosses that get updated loot tables after launch are extremely powerful items when compared to other phase 1 loot. For some classes, these pieces are far superior than some Molten Core pieces.
Many classes such as
Warlock
and Shadow
Priest
s have to wait until Phase 4 and the
Bloodvine Vest
set to achieve higher levels of Spell Hit Rating. With Dungeon Set 2 launching in Phase 1, many fantastic Spell Hit pieces will become available, making it much easier for spellcasters.

Dire Maul
Dire Maul will be available at the launch of Season of Mastery.
With Dire Maul launching in Phase 1, many extremely good items will be available such as
Tarnished Elven Ring
,
Mugger's Belt
,
Satyr's Bow
,
Boots of the Full Moon
,
Brightly Glowing Stone
, and
Padre's Trousers
. But one thing that should be noted is the availability of the Dire Maul trinkets. Many of these might seem somewhat forgettable for some classes, but they all come with +10 Fire Resistance, which can be quite valuable in Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair.

PvP Honor System
After careful consideration, we increased the rate at which players rank up in the PvP Honor System.
The PvP Honor System is launching in Phase 1 and receiving a buff, reducing the amount of time required to rank. With these changes, the Rank 14 gear will be much more valuable early on because of how impactful it is for many classes. In Season of Mastery, there will be roughly 8 weeks of Molten Core before Blackwing Lair launches, meaning it will be quite likely that some hardcore PvP players will achieve Rank 14 before Phase 3.
Reputation Gear
Changes and additions made to reputation vendors and item drops in patches 1.6 through 1.11 will be in place at the launch of Season of Mastery
Blizzard also made special mention that Reputation Gear will be available in Phase 1, meaning that should apply to the PvP Battleground reputations as well. This is especially impactful when considering the Warsong Gulch Reputation leggings, obtainable after reaching Exalted. For some classes, these are incredibly powerful leggings. To really put into perspective how powerful these items are, they were added in original Vanilla in Patch 1.11, alongside Naxxramas.

We need your help improving Wowhead for the Classic Season of Mastery! While you're playing either on the public test servers or once the Season goes live, please consider using the Wowhead Client & Addon to help us collect data and make the site better for everyone.
The client helps us make guides and keep our database up to date by collecting various data such as new boss abilities, timers, drop rates, mob spawns, and helps keep track of other various bits of information while you play. It doesn't even need to be run every time you play WoW, only when you're ready to upload the data, but it can also set it to run in the background to automatically upload without any extra effort on your part. This is particularly important right now due to all the boss and phase changes coming to Classic WoW, so thanks for all your continued support, and good luck in the Season of Mastery!
