How to Raid a Warlock

Preparation
You can find an SL warlock outside IF or Orgrimmar, this is the place were most SL warlocks hang out.
To initiate combat, you should approach the warlock and talk to him. He will say something about how nerfed warlock were, and how they could not kill anyone in previous patches, and how they became godlike while mages are now water dispensers. After you talk to him, click DUEL to start the fight.

PHASE ONE

You should position yourself as shown in this image:

The warlock will begin the fight without a pet, because he will feel too overpowered to use a pet against you. MT#1 and MT#2 should position the warlock so that his back will face the tank farther away from the IF door. It is advisable for them to have at least 350 shadow resistance, and one of them should also have 250 fire resist minimum. (This is explained later). Greater Shadow Protection pots are also a good commodity, as Whipper root tubers and +50 stamina potions from the quest in Blasted Lands.

The melee DPS group (shown as YELLOW in the pic) should stay behind the warlock, near the tank farther away from the Gate. This is done because they will need to retreat behind the tank and bandage, from time to time. (Bandage spot is shown on the pic)

The rest of the raid should position as shown in the picture. It is important for the raid to have about 120-200 shadow resistance, which will help sustain the damage. Keep in mind you will need at least 2 dispellers for each debuff type, otherwise you will wipe pretty soon.

During Phase 1, the warlock will perform a series of attacks:

SHADOW BOLT: A bolt of shadow is launched every 4 seconds to the tank that has aggro, causing 1200 to 2500 shadow damage, depending on resistance. A shadow bolt will crit between 3500 and 6500 damage, again depending on the target resistance. This is were MT#2 should come into play: If a Shadowbolt crits MT#1, he will have a debuff that will increase Shadow damage by a Zillion times. This is when MT#2 should taunt the warlock to prevent MT#1 from dying. MT#1 will then do the same thing once another Shadowbolts crits MT#2.

Curse of Doom: Every 1 minute, the warlock will cast CoD on a random raid member. This member should move outside the raid and unload full DPS, since he will die within the minute.

Shadowburn: The warlock will cast Shadowburn everytime he changes target. If one of the raid members gets aggro, he will suffer shadowburn and instantly die. It is important not to OverDPS, or members will die one after another.

Fear: The warlock will cast Fear on a randomy raid member, every few seconds. You should provide everyone with Fear Ward if you have it, and dispel fear ASAP, especcially on MTs and Healers.

Phase 1 is relatively easy and will last until the warlock has 70% life. This can take between 3 and 5 minutes, depending on your equipment.

PHASE TWO

When the warlock reaches 70% life, he will instacast a felhunter and Soul Link it. This is when the fight becomes harder.
Note: You cannot kill the warlock while the felhunter is alive. If you try to, the warlock will say that It's not his time yet and will use an healthstone, which will probably render the fight impossible in phase three.

A few moments before Phase two, the raid should move as shown in the pic.

Note: MT#3 and MT#4, which are tanking the felhunter, should stay at least 10 yards away from the warlock

Phase two is all about killing the felhunter.
The felhunter CANNOT BE DAMAGED by magic, as it has very high magic resistance. Also, during phase two, you should not magic debuff the pet or the warlock, otherwise the felhunter will remove the debuff and heal himself.

MT#1 & #2 should stay on the warlock with a few healers, while the melee DPS group will take down the Felhunter, while the magic
DPS group focuses on the warlock. During this phase, the warlock will receive next to no damage, as he is Soul Linked to the pet.

During Phase two, the warlock will have a new attack at his disposal:

Hellfire: Every 20 seconds, the warlock will cast Hellfire and hit anyone within 10 yards for an incredible amount of Fire damage.

Every DPS class standing near the warlock should retreat as shown in the picture and bandage as soon as he casts hellfire. Only the MT with Fire resistance should remain near the warlock. This is done because if the warlock finds no one within melee range during Hellfire, he will summon an Infernal and wipe the raid.

When the Felhunter is dead, PHASE THREE begins.

PHASE THREE

Phase three will begin as soon as the Felhunter is dead.
Notes: The warlock should be at around 40% health now. If he's any higher than that, you'll prolly not be able to take him down before you wipe. Also, if you have more than 6-7 dead members by now, you will probably wipe as you can't do enough DPS.

During phase three, the warlock will use all his arsenal to kill you.

Curse of Shadow/Elements/Agony: Every 10 seconds, the warlock will cast a random Curse on the entire raid. These debuffs should be removed as soon as possible. If CoE or CoS are not removed after 10 seconds, the warlock will cast Immolate/Shadowbolt on the member, killing him.

Howl of Terror: The Warlock will randomy cast HoT, hitting all the melees around him. You need to be quick and dispel Fear on the MTs otherwise they will lose aggro.

Death coil: The most imbalanced spell in the warlock's arsenal. This spell will be cast on a random raid member killing him, and will heal the warlock. CT_raidassist will warn you when the warlock is about to cast Deathcoil, and all Healers should hide behind the tank. If more than 3-4 healers are killed, the MTs will not be able to sustain damage and die, wiping the raid.

PHASE FOUR
When the warlock is at 5% life, he does an emote saying "Imba Warlock performs one last service for Blizzard" He will then cast Curse of Doom on the entire raid. This means you need to kill him within one minute, or you will wipe. You should have at least 15-20 DPS classes still alive here, otherwise you won't be able to kill him in time.

If you manage to kill him within the minute, congratulations! You just killed the hardest boss currently in World of Warcraft!

Do you hate group quests? Choose a warlock. When playing a warlock the following group quest policy applies:
: This quest is soloable by any warlock
: This quest is soloable by a warlock that doesn't suck
: This quest is soloable by a warlock that knows what he/she is doing and has a health potion (in addition to your healthstone).

How come? Lets have a look. I play a demonology warlock when I'm soloing and there are very few elites that I cannot solo. These tactics are made for fellow demonology warlocks but can be altered towards non-demonolody as well.

Step 1
We find our prey.

Step 2: Preperation
We make sure that we've got our Healthstone, that fel armor and firestone are active and, most importantly, that we've got:
•Metamorph Cooled down
•Soulshatter cooled down (+1 soul shard)
•Felguard active (with all the skills on)
•Soul link (since you're the main tank, your pet's only the off-tank).

Step 3: Beginning of Combat
We start the fight by metamorphing and charging. Since your pet is on defensive mood it will do the same. Quickly pop your spell damage trinket (if you've got one) and use:
•Immolation Aura (demonic)
•Curse of the Elements (it is very important that you cast CotE before the next step, because unlike the next step this spell causes a global cooldown)
•Demonic Empowerment
•Spam Shadow Bolt

Step 4: Stalling
The main aspect of this step is tanking the mob for as long as you can afford (if speed is your goal here). Since you're in metamorph you ought to have at least 40% armor. A good idea is to have Glyph of metamorph because it boosts the time that you can tank for. When you get low on health use the button to heal yourself. Next you can use your healthstone or healing potion if you're really in for the speed, if not, proceed to the next step.

Step 5 has two names, pick one:
1)Omgmymetamorphiswearingoff
2)Omgmyhpislowiamanaabhleppls
Either way, here is what you should do: Remember that soulshatter spell I told you about back at the top? Use it. *poof* you lose aggro and your pet becomes the tank now, only because you hadn't turned Taunt off.

Step 6: FINISH HIM!
A good idea here would be to drain some life off the mob, you'll need it. Assuming you'll propably have Improved Health Funnel and Mana Feed, life tap a bit to recover your felguard's mana and Funnel some health into it. The Improved talent helps your pet tank AND heals it, what else would you need? Just maintain your own and your pets health+mana, click Demonic Empowerment if the mob is still alive and it will be down in no time.

Step 7: Expressing thanks
Congrats, you've downed your first high HP elite. You can now send all your valuables to me as a token of gratitude. :)

Different colors should be added for Warlock Pets, you could select your color at the Demon Trainer.
Imp: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple
Voidwalker: Classic, White, Pink, Tainted
Succubus: Classic, Red, Dark, Magenta
Felhunter: No Additional Felhunter Skins in Game. New ones needed then.
Felguard: Classic, Yellow, Gray, Red, Blue
Infernal: Classic, Red, Blue
Of course this is just an idea. Maybe open a thread with this Suggestion in the WoW Forums. :P

This works for most elite mobs, but not the extreme elite mobs (some group quests) that you can't burst - and depending on your DpS, you will likely die after Metamorphosis since Soulshatter doesn't wipe all threat.

For these, here's some tricks:

- Start with your pet tanking. Curse of Weakness and Health Funnel should keep your pet up all the time. With Fel Armor and an occasional Drain Life your health should be close to 100% most of the time. If your pet can be sustained with this, then just wait for him to get enough threat before going full DpS.

- Really really hard bosses can be soloed using the infinite Felguard tactic: Summon a Felguard, send him to the boss and don't do NOTHING, except maybe a Curse of Weakness and stay far far away from it. When the Felguard's about to die, start summoning another. Your first one will be stunned and will die, but you'll probably have another up before the boss reaches you. You still have close to 0 threat since you haven't damaged or healed (be careful with Fel Armor's sel heal!) your new Felguard can pick up the boss instantly with a single Attack/Cleave. Rinse and repeat. When you think the boss is low enough to be bursted, start DpSing or you won't get credited for it.

- When none of the above works, you can resort to this last tactic: Using this enchant or any similar movement increase enchant, you can run almost as fast or faster than most mobs.
Find somewhere high where there is no way up or any way to climb except a path or two. Put up a Demonic Circle and proceed to aggro the elite. Here you will have to full DpS the mob (your pet won't be tanking at all, he'll just help with the DpS) and try to kite him the most you can near the mountain/peak.
When he reaches you, teleport. If you used the right kind of scenario, the mob will go around it to attack you, this is when you should refresh DoTs and Drain Life if you need (since a channeled spell doesn't break on LoS). When the mob reaches you at the top, jump. If you jump correctly, the mob will stay still for a short time waiting for you to get to a "reachable" point before moving again. When you fall Drain Life immediately to regain some health, and start kiting again until you can teleport. Rinse and repeat.

This last one is a bit tricky, the scenario can't allow any pathing at all or the mob will just climb it and go directly for you. There's plenty of areas where you can abuse this.
This video shows a warlock soloing a raid boss without teleport (he was level 70). With teleport it just makes things easier.

Umm.... i know that the talent tree's on here are not final, BUT, Destruction is looking REALLY good right now. Soul leech... OMG! Bane of havoc... I pity the target:( he's will get screwed in a BIG PULL, AoE damage added up on the guy who gets this.

Use hellfire till you're almost dead, throw in a few seed of corruptions, shadow bolt and chaos bolt a few times, keep going :D

After 5+ friggin years, we finally don't need shards to summon pets, make summon portals, healthstones or soulstones.

As well as not having to worry running out of shards for soulfire/shadowburn, AND have what other classes (except hunters) have all along: another bag slot.

If you keep wondering why you can't control your Imp or Voidwalker directly, it's because some newbie friendly change which came with Cataclysm. Don't worry, you'll learn a skill () to Control your Demon directly at level 10.

I gotta say, as a Demonology/Affliction warlock some of the most difficult fights in the game become a lot easier. While questing in Uldum with someone from my guild we got into a glitch where mobs wouldn't stop spawning and attacking. We were stuck with a constant stream of 10 enemies on us at all times. We were only at 83 at the time and my guildmate, a DK, was about to die. I just used Metamorphosis, Hand of Gul'dan, Felstorm, and Rain of Fire and managed to kill everything faster than it could respawn.

If you want a good class for solo questing or dungeon DPS I would go with a Warlock.

In very much the same standard as a Mage, the Warlock class takes the philosophy, "Kill it with fire" to a new level.

While the methodology of killing things with fire is beneficial, many Warlocks would most likely have a preference to the philosophy, "Kill everything that moves with demons and eat their souls".

This preference to the Warlock's standard, is easily the most apparent, as the number of Warlocks running around at level 15 with a Felguard.

Yeah I'm another Lock having DPS issues here, I'm level 85 demo/destro with a build very similar to the one posted in an earlier video (actual figures are 0/31/10) and my ilvl is 346 as of today so I've not started troll dungeons yet. My average dps seems to be about 6k to 7k and I get complained at for it in maybe about 2 or 3 out of 5 PUG's I take part in. Any advice?

My lock is a Demonology and is currently a Blood Elf. I am considering a race change. The problem is that I can’t decide between goblin or orc. The static 1% haste the goblin offer seems nice since haste is our second best secondary stat. On the other hand, the increased pet damage from Orc seems nice too, also, the orc racial doesn’t trigger a GCD, so I can macro it to my Trinket-Metamorposis-lifeblood-demon soul. The CD is also the same as the trinket. I am leaning towards Orc, anyone think any different?

Warlock is by far the most fun class for me. I've tried every class (though not every spec) and while I love my warrior, demonology warlock is not only easy-mode by comparison but summoning up demons, transforming, and just burning everything to the ground is awesome.

Though I will admit an affliction warlock's Jinx talent is very nice.

Warlocks can be somewhat annoying to healers with their health-sacrificing abilities especially Life Tap, so only use it when you need it, and make sure you level your First Aid!

Affliction excels at Multi-Doting and extended single-target executes. It has no ramp up time anymore, and decent Burst now with Dark Soul+Soul Burn: Soul Swap+Haunt+Malefic Grasp. It has rather weak AoE. Affliction has a balanced toolkit of spells.

Demonology Excels as AoE, Soloing, off-tanking, and Burst. It has decent Multi-Doting with Doom and Corruption. It has a rather tedious execute (soul fire cast takes too long to kill very short lived targets), and suffers from a very long ramp up. Demonology does well if it can land killing blows while in metamorphosis. Demonology has a very LARGE toolkit of spells.

Destruction Excels at nukes, cleaves, ad-killing executes, and Burst. It has decent AoE and does well if it can land killing blows with Shadowburn. Destruction cannot multi-dot, and has a rather long ramp up. Destruction has a very small toolkit of spells.

It's amazing how far Warlocks have evolved as a class in World of Warcraft since day one.

I'm loving the new spells, effects, damage, and the power of the utility in MoP.

Here's hoping this doesn't go away for a good while.

Blizzard did a really great job with the class this expansion and I plan on spending a lot more time playing this class.

If you are thinking of making a low level twink for fun, a level 74 DestroLock is the answer.
You are going to ask why I guess?

Let's get into the details:

-Why DestroLock?
"Chaos Bolt always critically strikes. In addition, the damage is increased by your critical strike chance."
The secret is in Smooth King's Amber and Smooth Dragon's Eye if you are a Jewelcrafter, which I STRONGLY recommend.
Also if you want to go for a rogue for example, like most people do, have fun grinding BT for Warglaives...
Just sayin', gearing a 74 lock twink is easy, and the amount of delivered fun is beyond your imagination.

-Why 74?
First of all, the first PvP items with sockets are on level 70, obviously I'm talking about Brutal Gladiator's Felshroud. You want to be 74 instead of just 70, because 74 is the top level for this bracket, and a 74 warlocks is obviously stronger than 70 one. And you want to be 74 instead of 84 for example, because the cataclysm crit sockets require item level, and the wrath ones don't. So your Chaos Bolt will have bigger advantage on level 74 instead of any other twink level.

-Why not Tier 6 (Malefic) instead of Brutal Gladiator?
Let's take a look at the stats. They are all for level 74 warlock and the socket bonuses are in case we stack only critical (yellow) and nothing else at all. http://www.wowhead.com/compare?items=31050:31051:31053:31054:31052:34564:34436:34541;35009:35010:35011:35012:35013:35179:35149:35164
The PvE set has 52 more intellect, 3.74% haste and 5.62% hit. (4 hit, 11 spell power socket bonus) However...
The PvP set has 55 more stamina, 11.97% resil and 7.94% critical. (2 spell power socket bonus)

If you follow this tips, you will almost one shot the peeps (or directly one shot greenies) in the battlegrounds, and you will be a nuclear weapon in their eyes, which will result in 2-3 people running away from you to a random direction, just to avoid Shadowfury to Havoc Chaos Bolt. (true story ;) )

p.s. Chaos Bolt does NOT consume an ember if it misses.
However it does if it gets resisted.
p.p.s. Now in mists, as our survivability is greatly increased, (Unending Resolve, , Dark Regeneration, and more) it's a fact that you can destroy even rogues/warriors/DKs/hunters buffed up to the sky with legendaries. That hurts their ego a lot.

5.4 Changes

General

damage has been increased by 10%.
Demonic Gateways are no longer attackable once more and no longer temporarily removes threat from the user. The debuff from using a Demonic Gateway has been increased to 60 seconds (up from 15 seconds).
Fel Armor no longer reduces all damage taken by 10%.
now deals 13% more damage, costs 2% less mana, and no longer increases the duration of damage-over-time spells.
Immolate damage has been increased by 10%.
Rain of Fire now has a reduced chance to generate Burning Embers.
The Codex of Xerrath now infuses additional spells with fel magic (green fire effect).
Summon Felsteed, Summon Dreadsteed, Summon Abyssal, , , and .

Affliction

Agony damage has been increased by 16%.
no longer energizes Soul Shards from the pets and guardians of players and now deals 34% less damage. If other periodic Affliction damage effects are triggered by , they now deal 60% of their normal damage (down from 100%).
Haunt now deals 50% more damage, and increases damage done by all of the Warlock's damage-over-time spells against the target by 40%.
now deals 34% less damage, and causes all of of the Warlock's other periodic Affliction damage effects to instantly deal 30% of their normal periodic damage (down from 50%).
Nightfall now gives Corruption a 10% increased chance to generate a Soul Shard (up from a 5% chance), but the increased chance only works on the most recently applied Corruption.
Soul Swap no longer does any damage, and now copies damage-over-time effects instead of just moving them without needing a glyph. Copied effects now once again preserve their power and duration. Duration has been reduced to 3 seconds (down from 20 seconds).
Unstable Affliction damage has been increased by 21%.

Demonology

now increases the effects of Mastery: Master Demonologist by an additional 30%.
Hellfire's damage has been reduced by 20%.
's damage has been reduced by 20%.

Destruction

Chaos Bolt's damage has been increased by 15%.
Incinerate's damage has been increased by 10%.

Talents

Archimonde's has been redesigned and renamed into .
gives the Warlock's Dark Soul spell two charges.

Grimoire of Sacrifice no longer affects Drain Life.

For Affliction Warlocks, Grimoire of Sacrifice now increases the power of various single target spells by 20% (down from 30%).

no longer replaces . is now a passive talent that increases 's damage by 50%, and healing by 150%. The talent no longer turns the ability into an area-of-effect spell.
Howl of Terror is no longer a talent and is now a baseline skill for all Warlocks.

is a new talent replacing Howl of Terror. The Warlock sends out a cone of Shadow damage, snaring targets, has a 20-second cooldown.

no longer reduces movement speed, and will now allow the Warlock to cast Incinerate, , and Shadow Bolt while moving.
is no longer a passive ability. now has a duration of 10 seconds with a 60 second cooldown, and increases the area of area-of-effect by 500% and increases damage by 100% for Seed of Corruption, Hellfire, , and Rain of Fire.
Soul Leech can now also activate from Shadowburn, and caps out at 15% of the Warlock and their pet's maximum health (down from 100%).
Soul Link now transfers 20% of damage taken by the Warlock to their pet, and 3% of all damage dealt by the Warlock will be returned as healing for the Warlock and their pet. This ability is always active while the Warlock's pet is active.

Glyphs

Major Glyphs

Glyph of Dark Soul has been replaced by Charred Glyph.
Charred Glyph causes Chaos Brand to hit 2 additional nearby targets.

Glyph of Everlasting Affliction has been replaced by Charred Glyph.

Charred Glyph: Changes Unending Resolve into a passive ability that provides a constant 10% reduction to damage taken.

Charred Glyph no longer causes Fear to have a cooldown.
Charred Glyph now summons 4 Wild Imps (down from 5 Wild Imps).
Glyph of Shadowflame has been replaced with Charred Glyph.

Charred Glyph reduces the damage reduction of Unending Resolve by 20%, and the cooldown is reduced by 60 seconds.

Glyph of Soul Swap has been replaced with Glyph of Havoc.

Glyph of Havoc: Havoc gains 3 additional charges, but the cooldown is increased by 35 seconds.

Class Armor

Warlock Tier-14 4-piece set bonus (Item - Warlock T14 4P Bonus) now reduces the cooldown of Unending Resolve by 20 seconds.
Warlock PvP 4-piece set bonus (Item - Warlock PvP Set 4P Bonus) now reduces duration of the debuff from using a Demonic Gateway by 15 seconds.

Bug Fix

Fixed an issue where was not working properly while Metamorphosis was active.

5.3 Changes

General

had its mana cost reduced to 1%, down from 4%.
Demonic Gateway cast time has been reduced to 4 seconds, down from 5 seconds, gains its first charge after 5 seconds (down from 13 seconds), and gains a new charge every 10 seconds (down from 15 seconds). The summoned gateway has 100% of the summoning Warlock's health, 100% of the Warlock's resilience, and can now be attacked and killed by enemy players.
Health Funnel now causes the Soulburn portion of the spell to increase healing generated from Health Funnel by 140% instead of instantly restoring 36% health.

Talents

no longer activates from attacks made by pets.

Glyphs

Charred Glyph has been redesigned. Glyph of Siphon Life now heals the Warlock for 0.5% of their maximum health when Corruption or Immolate deal periodic damage.

Affliction

Haunt now refunds a when it is dispelled.

Destruction

no longer requires a to cast. Instead, the spell causes Immolate, Incinerate, Conflagrate, and Curse spells to consume a when cast, and the effect remains active as long as the Warlock has at least 1 remaining.

Item Sets

Warlock PvP 2-piece set bonus no longer reduces cooldown on Unending Resolve and have been replaced by the former 4-piece set bonus where the Warlock's Twilight Ward absorbs damage from all magical schools.
Warlock PvP 4-piece set bonus now increases damage dealt by Agony, Corruption, Doom, Immolate, and Unstable Affliction by 10%.

Patch 5.2 Changes (Source)

Fel Armor now reduces damage taken by 10%, instead of increasing the Warlock’s armor.
Blood Fear has been replaced by Blood Horror. Blood Horror costs 5% health, has 1 charge, and lasts 60 seconds with a 30 second cooldown. While Blood Horror is active, melee attacks that strike the Warlock will cause the attacker to be horrified for 4 seconds.
Burning Rush now also prevents movement impairing effects from reducing the Warlock’s movement speed below 100% of normal, in addition to its other effects.
The Imp pet ability Blood Pact has been removed.
now increases Stamina in addition to Spell Power.
Soul Leech now provides an absorption shield instead of healing.
Dark Pact now requires the pet to sacrifice 25% of its health to activate (was 50%).
is now a passive talent, and its activated ability has been removed.
The passive damage from no longer has a visual effect.
Grimoire of Sacrifice now increases the damage of abilities by 20% (was 25%) for Destruction, and 45% (was 50%) for Affliction.
Grimoire of Sacrifice now provides the spell Whiplash instead of Seduction when a Succubus is sacrificed.
Glyph of Burning Embers has been removed, and its effects are now baseline for Destruction Warlocks.
Glyph of Soul Shards has been removed, and its effects are now baseline for Affliction Warlocks.
New Glyph: Charred Glyph. This glyph increases the healing gained from by 33%, but the health is restored over 10 seconds.
New Glyph: Charred Glyph. This glyph increases the healing gained from by 30%.
Charred Glyph changed. This ability now reduces the cast time of Unstable Affliction by 25%.
Affliction
Unstable Affliction’s backlash effect is now always a critical hit, and deals approximately 15% more damage.
The tier-14 2-piece set bonus now causes to incresae the duraton of Haunt by 4 seconds (instead of the previous Nightfall modifier).

Demonology

Destruction

Fire and Brimstone now has a radius of 10 yards (was 15 yards).

Mists of Pandaria Changes

Level 90 class ability: . When refreshing your periodic damage effects, duration remaining on the previous effect is added to the new one, up to a maximum of 50% the base duration.
Level 87 class ability: Demonic Gateway. Create a demonic gateway between two locations. Stepping into the gateway causes any party member to be instantly transported to the other gateway.
Unending Resolve: Defensive cooldown with an amazing graphic, check out our spell effects tab!
is a DPS cooldown with unique variations for each spec: critical strike, mastery, or haste.
Fel Armor: Now a passive ability that boosts spellpower and stamina.
: Now a raidwide buff that increases spellpower by 10%.

Affliction Changes

: New ability. Deals 214 (+ 20% of SpellPower) Shadow damage and causes all of the Warlock's other periodic Affliction damage effects to instantly deal 50% of their normal periodic damage, every 1 seconds.
Soul Shards have been greatly changed--they're intended to be used and generated frequently in combat, as opposed to limited usage in Cataclysm.
Haunt no longer heals the caster and requires a Soul Shard.
now makes your DoTs tick twice as fast under 20% and restores a Soul Shard every two ticks. This is your primary way of generating Soul Shards.
Corruption has a 10% chance to generate a Soul Shard.

Demonology Changes

is a new resource for Demonology warlocks. Normal offensive abilities generate it, and abilities in consume it. You will leave demon form if your is below 40.

is a new resource for Destruction warlocks. Some abilities generate them, while other abilities consume them, once you have 10 parts of an ember generated.
Abilities that generate :
Incinerate. Your primary way of generating embers. Normal attacks generate one, while critical strikes generate 2. In addition, Incinerate's damage is no longer boosted by Immolate.
Immolate: Each tick has a change to generate an ember.
Rain of Fire: No longer needs to be channeled.

Abilities that consume :

Chaos Bolt: Always critically strikes, and crit chance increases damage.
Shadowburn: No longer is tied to Soul Shards. Also now restores 15% of mana over 5 seconds, and generates an ember if the target dies in 5 seconds.
now instantly revives your last demon.
: Restores health.

if you are new on this game and want a easy class to level up fast in pve this its yout class, because you can heal yourself draining life, and you have a tank minion, to taunt all your enemies and the fear its other crownd control situational ability! u will get alot fun with this class, i love it

Playing as 88/89 Destro in BG you can easily get 10-20 blowing kills and 8mil+ dmg. And that's without any PVP gear and only a few expensive pieces of rare pve gear.

Capitalize on this spec right now because it is definitely in its prime.

My Thoughts on Warlocks:

I have always enjoyed the Warlock especially Demonology Warlocks, but since the inclusion of Demonic Fury and Metamorphosis I think the Demonology Warlock has reached a new height of enjoyment. It has been a few years since I tried Destruction or Affliction, but Demonology is loads of fun and the ability to transform into a demon is awesome.

Okay, so in the lore, when the Eredar join Kil'jaeden, they become the monstrous wrathgaurd. So, if a Draenei from back then were to summon a wrathguard, there's a slim chance the Draenei will summon his brother? That'd be kinda...awkward...

So, here is my question about Warlocks, We r in 5.4.7, and I am playing a DestoLock, and I know all locks r different in play, but what should I handle in weapon-wise; 2-H weapon or go 1-H weapon w/ an Off-hand, just remember I am a DestoLock in PvE, not PvP.

Now PvP, I am AffLock, what should I go 2-H weapon or go 1-H weapon w/ Off-hand.

Warlocks are a good class to consider if you like filling a support role but don't want to be a healer. You can summon raid members and supply them with Health Stones. Demons can be used to tailor a large portion of your damage and abilities into debuffing, substitute tanking, etc. Your Soul Stone can be used for a combat rez or to give a self rez. Warlocks also have an array of short and long term CC, plus an enslave ability versus demons. Then there's Unending Breath and Eye of Kilrogg. As well as providing valued utility to raids, these all have the welcome bonus of making the class more fun to play in general.

Edit: Now that I'm high level I've noticed that this has marginally raised my value in raids. I'm slightly more likely to get invited and less likely to get kicked when my portals, stones etc. are coming in useful. This might be something to consider if you are new or bad at raiding. I am a very poor raider but I can cling onto a spot through more than I would without my handy stuff.

Since I started playing WoW 6 years ago, I have primarily rolled warlocks. I've dabbled with other classes but nothing compares to a lock. Especially one that has mastered their class. Warlock for life!

Blizzard has warlocks so broken now that it is hardly worth spending the time to level. Now before jumping on that down vote button, hear me out. Warlocks used to be a challenge to play, and more of a challenge to play well.

I'll mention here, that I've played Destro since I first bought the game, nearly 7 years ago. Since I am PAYING to play the game, I see no need to be forced out of destro spec by Blizzards catering to whiney little 12 yr olds that can't pvp and one shot a squishy, cloth wearing warlock. (remember how butt hurt dks got when you disarmed them with your voidwalker? LOL.. it was out counter to death grip and strangulate) until they took it away from us.

Thanks to Blizzard's attempt to get more "spechul" players involved, they dumbed warlocks down to literally a 1 button mashing class. My rotation literally consists of 1,2,2, 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-F2- and 4 chaos bolts. How is mashing one button 95% of a 10 minute boss fight fun or challenging? Even our CC was crippled. Either mobs are immune to fears, or they wander around randomly regardless of the glyph of fear you have been using to prevent that!

For years, blizzard has been nerfing warlocks. Until they sat one day crunching numbers and realized... Hmmmm nobody is playing any warlocks and we are losing customers... Uhhhh toss them a cookie, and give back a little bit of what we took so they think they are getting something. So in MoP they gave back some of what they took away in cata. Now in WoD they clawed even that back. Seriously.. .who wants to play a glass turret? You sit there in one spot firing immolate until you die?

Blizzard, you gave the new kids hunters and paladins to whet their teeth on, Kind of like the "baby food" classes while they learned to chew real food. (classes that are easy to play from the start) and death knights so they could feel OP with very little actual skill. LEAVE WARLOCKS ALONE! and if the failtarded spechul ed flunk outs can't compete, tell them to LEARN TO PLAY, not nerf warlocks even more!

Did anyone else notice all the publicity Blizzard gave to increasing its player base by 3.5 million with this latest expac? From 6.5 million (the lowest ever) up to around 10 million? I didn't notice any press releases from Blizzard about losing 10% (1 million players) in the first quarter AFTER WoD came live. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on economics, but OMG losing 10% of your player base in 3 months indicates YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG! Specifically, I would say, they have dumbed the game down so much, that the 12 year olds they were trying to entice to play with fancy commercials lost interest when it came to actual game play. One reason is this stupid idea of garrisons and the massive gold cost to level them. The only players that can afford to build their garrisons are the ones that have been playing for years already. But.. oh wait.. those are the ones that are not renewing now, because Warcraft has become to much like Dragons Lair (remember Dirk the Daring? Press A to live, B to die) . Guys, if i wanted to mash 2 buttons I would save the $15 a month and play the xbox that is collecting dust under my tv. (Wife wanted me to buy it... lol and even she doesn't play it.. but she wanted it.. and well.... )

Truthfully, Blizzard needs a wake up call. But don't post to their forums, the mods there get butt hurt if you give negative input about the game, and delete those posts. Apparently, coddling the developers so they don't get hurt feelings and cry is more important than honest customer input.

The only thing I can think of to improve the plight of warlocks now, is to stop playing them. Everyone roll hunters or pallys or dks. Since some of us have been playing for years, no doubt we can out play some 12 yr old that has been playing since Christmas on an account their Grandmother got them as an Xmas pressie. LOL What will Blizzard do then? Nerf HALF of the DKS? Maybe a stacking debuff? The more people you face roll in pve, the higher your damage reduction debuff stacks? (like a golf handicap?)

Personally, Im leveling some characters to level 20 and setting them up as level 20 veteran twinks. That way, I can just say SCREW YOU BLIZZARD and play for free when I get really sick and tired of paying them for a bad product.

Back when i started playing, casters had massive damage output, to compensate for soft squishy armor and higher damage taken. Nobody cried NERF NERF NERF back then, they just learned to counter the other classes abilities, and played on, people actually got better at playing their classes!

All I know is this.. if Blizzard wants to keep warlocks as a class in game, they need to un-nerf us. Make warlocks a desirable class to play again. Seriously, what fun is it when all you see is death knights, hunters, paladins and discipline priests?
