Introduced in a recent beta built,
Strike
is a weak, instant attack that is the level 1 starting ability available for all warriors. At the time of writing, it shares a cooldown with
Shield Slam
,
Bloodthirst
and
Mortal Strike
, so as soon as you hit level 10 and sink your first talent point into Arms, Fury or Prot and get your respective ability, you can take this off your bars.

I don't understand why this ability remains in spellbook after lvl 12.
When I came first to Cata ... I just said wtf.... tried on dummy and ... lol.

I was using Strike on target dummies at lvl 10 without any Specialization or training since I got Rend at lvl 7. I went to the dummy and used just melee swings of my 2H weapon and Strike upon rage dump. The result of my research showed me that the usual "Use as a rage dump until you get something better" was quite incorrect. I was actually getting LESS DPS per melee swing using Strike than I was by simply using white damage melee swings. Of all the times I did use Strike, only one was as high as my other swings, at 18 damage. The others were 14. The white damage melee swings were from 17 to 22 or so.
Just take this off your bar. It sucks. I was wondering though it was penalizing me for having a 2H and maybe it was worth something with a 1H and shield equipped.

This ability is a great tool for when trying to complete any quest that requires getting a mob low in health without killing it. The situation does come up quite a bit when going for achievements such as
博學大師
. Without having to take off all of your gear to diminish the effect of additional stats it can come in handy!

For neatness' sake I would've thought they would just give you Heroic Strike at level 1 and down-scale its damage from 1-10 to roughly what this does. Would be less confusing to novices. Also I got the impression Blizzard didn't like the idea of low level skills that you're supposed to pull off your bars once you get the good stuff, didn't expect them to add another.

I've seen people in the mid 60's still using this pile of rubbish, so much /facepalm.
Imo, you should unlearn this when you learn your lvl 10 talent tree specialisation.

the most frustrating thing about this ability (and the fact that blizzard moved the old low-level warrior attacks up to higher levels) is that it does not scale to weapon damage. so it just about completely
defeats the purpose
& very severely
limits the viability
of equipping a 2H-er on a plain old newbie, non-twink warrior toon (one that has to rely on quest rewards, has no BOA gear, and can't afford to buy gear from the auction house) until he reaches level 10 and gains better, harder-hitting abilities to replace this one. a warrior that does equip a 2H-er below level 10 is really gaining no benefit (in contrast to 1H-er & shield) except more auto-attack damage.
it's not so much a matter of the game becoming more difficult, challenging, or complicated for a warrior. rather, blizzard simply failed at basic math when they decided to use this spell to ruin the viability of 2H-ers for warriors that are below level 10. admittedly that is only problem for a few hours, but it's still potentially a few hours where equipping a 2H-er on a newbie warrior can directly lead to a very unenjoyable & frustrating experience nevertheless.
and to elaborate upon what others have said, Strike shares a cooldown with the specialization abilities that are gained at level 10 (Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, or Shield Slam)... so a warrior not only
can
remove Strike from his action bar upon gaining one of those, but more to the point he
should
remove it because there
will never be any circumstance
where Strike will do more damage than Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, or Shield Slam.
