This talent is part of the new talent push that came out with patch 2.0.
It effectively renders the Howl of Terror fear spell, as an instant cast. which provides a invaluable bonus to the warlock's arsenal.

Due to the AoE effect on the Howl of Terror, it allows you to disperse quite a few attackers, helps for getting rid of assist training melee in pvp, or dispersing a crowd that happen to be bunched up.

It also has great PVE purposes as it allows for instant reaction to an overwelming situation such as a stray aggro, or needed a AoE crowd control.

Great new addition to the Affliction warlock, a must have!

Ok. GZ all warlocks, hope you will enjoy this. As warlocks where't hard enough to kill before. And now, with this, and that friking pet you got... IMPOSSIBLE to kill... *sigh*

Ok, enough whining, but seriously, Why do blizzard Buff warlocks? they are more than good from before. IMO, a cd on fear would be a nice "nerf". to balance this might be hard, since warlocks have to fear to stay alive. but still, they should't be impossible to kill when they fear. Maby nerf fear effects, now for example, fear wont break if you just dot the feard target up and leave, spamm fear him. I'm sorry warlocks, but you need a nerf.

As of 4.0.6, Wowhead's stated times for this talent are wrong.

They list:
1/2 seconds
which should be:
0.8/1.5 seconds

Wish it wasn't so far down the Affliction tree, I dont wanna give up my Felguard. =( maybe respec at 70

...are for chumps. You know, you can get this AND Ruin... That plus Dark pact = big crits, instant fears, and practically unending mana.

I don't know what's you are talking about... Affliction locks are not specced for critting.
