I have found Spirit Bond to be extremely useful.

Initially, I was heavy marksman and was able to relatively easily handle almost any equal level elite all the way up in the game with the exception of certain Demons that can hit for 1500+ every so often.

Since I find myself soloing mostly in a farming capacity for dragonkin, I noticed that I was spending almost 10 silver per kill in Thorium Arrows and with the average kill dropping 10 silver this was not going to work.

With this in mind, I tried out being a beastmaster type hunter and switched too two 1.40 attack speed weapons (shadowblade and valrend slicer). Both weapons proc decently with their 75 - 140 additional damage. Combined with Immolation traps, Spirit Bond, 2 uses of my nature damage arrow I find that I can normally kill the same elite dragonkin with only about 1 silver in arrow costs, no need EVER for potions, rarely use feign death and end the fight with about 75% health.

Considering dueling Crusader on these same two weapons for even more bang for my buck.

I can not recommend this enough for the true soloer. It does not seem to work as well in instances for one reason ... lack of experienced players.

Bad playing styles have given Hunters a bad name, just as Rangers had a bad rap in EQ for the same reason. My closest friends always want me on their instances since they know that with pet on passive I can easily control him and am very good with my traps and rarely, if ever, need healing.

Just think how nice it will be once I get Crusader ... about two days away from this now :).

My current pet is 1.5 attack speed and I do fine, once I get my 1.0 pet I expect to do even better for healing.

NOTE: one thing to consider doing is to turn OFF your pets growl using this since I find it useful to actually have aggro on me rather than my pet in most cases since he is healing me. And btw you get 40 healing per pet swing not 20 once you are at level 60.

Is Spirit Bond a passive ability, like, always on, or is it a move you have to click and activate and lasts such-and-such amount of time? The only thing I'm confused on.

Oh, duuur, man I'm dumb. I didn't see where it said "Duration: 30 seconds" up there. Sorry. ^^;;

That is, you can buy rank one with talent points and can then train further levels with money (at certain character levels, just like any other purchased ability).

This is an ability that the hunter can purchase by spending some 31 talent points in Beast Mastery.

I just got it... damned nice and my pet only has an AS of 2... i get one with a 1 sec attack and i'm all set.
You get the talent at 20hp per hit
train to 30 at lvl 50
train to 40 at 60
