This is the bread and butter for two-handed fury warriors. While leveling 2h fury gives most of the benefits of fury while not suffering under the 19% increased chance to miss DW gets. And I know that this is actually used by some good warriors.

Never mind this, it has been moved to arms. Guess it fits better there, arms is, after all, the 2H spec.

This skill can actually be good with 2handers. For a 0.5 second cast you can get weapon damage +140. If you have a lot of rage this can actually be pretty useful when your weapon speed is over 3 seconds.

With a slow 2Her, Improved Slam outperforms Mortal Strike, Heroic Strike and Bloodthirst for specific moments.
You need to stand still for the 0.5 seconds casting, which makes it very PvEish. OTOH, use it once every white-swing, directly after that white swing, and you get more-than-2 (due to the bonusdamage) white hits in only +0.5 seconds.
Even including latency and all, say you got a 3.6 2Her, you'll instead be hitting ~2.1x as much in 4.3 seconds. *Immense* damage gain. For only 15 rage, and contrary to Heroic Strike you don't lose any white-damage rage for it.
It's all about learning how to timer the Slam after the white hit, right after the swing timer restarted counting - and how to control oneself from spamming it. Then it increases your damage immensively.
Even if you don't have ImpSlam (it helps a lot), you'd still be doing ~2.1x as much damage in 5.3s in the above example. Compared to 2x as much in 7.2 seconds with only white swings. It still compresses a lot. :)

This talent + sword spec + Hand of Justice (

) makes it able to almsot endlessly use Slam. Though Hand of Justice is a lvl 53 Trinket it still shows it's worth for me at lvl 70 for some PvE dpsing.

The swing timer resets when the slam hits, so if you time the slam to hit .1 seconds after the ordinary swing then the swing timer is hardly affected.
There is a cast bar mod that displays a bar showing the swing timer, this is very helpful in learning the timings.
I can't remember the name of the mod though...
Very good talent when used correctly.

I love imp slam for pvp. It is somewhat situational,but once you get the timing down it's incredible. It has a pretty decent range so you can still hit hamstringed targets that are trying to get away. Imp hamstring root+bloodrage+slam+slam+slam=win.

i dont beleive ill be investing in this talent
pre wotlk i slam when i pve
but looking at new talents and abilites
i might be to busy to be spamming slam
battle stance:mortal strike,rend,bladestorm,30% every 3 seconds for overpower proc,
and cleave and whirlwind if u go berserker,
although i think battle stance is going to become the stance of choice
not saying i wont be slamming on occasion,,but the bottom of the arms tree gets complicated and i believe there are btter options to invest points in for maximum output

I really don't know about PvP, but every PvE warrior I know who went Arms after 3.0.2 hit is using Improved Slam.

When leveling as arms with a very slow 2h weapon (like the
Bloodied Arcanite Reaper
heirloom item) I found this was better to get over mortal strike at first, it gives you more control over dumping your rage and you don't lose as much damage if you miss a swing making for an overall faster grind.

Slam isn't normalized you you will get the full 0.257% AP-gain with the slowest weapons (3.6), unlike MS/OP who only recieve 0.236% (3.3 normalization for 2hs) I don't see no reason to not pick it up if your doing pve, its solid damage
I don't see any reason to DO pick it up in pvp however
granted, after a charge/intercept you may actually get a way with a 0.5sec slam (burning your rage and still interupting your swing timer) and when you proc your hamstring you could land a free hit (or even two) in with it.
Fact is that the classes against you need that extra bit of burst aren't gonna sit there and soak the damage and plate wearers won't be impressed if it doesn't crit. You need to keep a lot of stuff up (hamstring/piercing howl, ms, rend, op-debuff sometimes) so it should be very lucky you can have a safe-spot to use it, if you ever get in a situation like that your better of using bladestorm anyway.
for those 2 talent points you can get other stuff for pvp, arms isn't exactly a bloated tree.

I love this talent so much, sadly it doesn't really work in PVP, even melees run around you in circles and stuff, no one stands still in front of you like a mob. As previously stated, your only chance to get this off would be Improved hamstring-procs. Everyone else will get away.

You seem to be overlooking something. After you hit a hamstring immobilize, hit slam then an instant Mortal Strike and/or Execute for a burst combo. Add in a Heroic Strike if possible.

This is a thread about the
"Improved Slam"
talent not the Slam ability itself and everyone seems to be forgetting the most important fact about it.
No matter what we do, melee are limited to a
1-second global cooldown
and spending both talents on this reduces slam's "cast" time to
0.5
, which leaves us with
0.5
seconds of global cooldown in which we can do nothing (although it does help our white damage swings go slightly faster).
This makes me think that spending 1/2 points into this is a great investment, whereas spending 2/2 seems a lot more useless in a
PvE
scenario. This is still useful in
PvP
, where targets are constantly trying to run away from you therefore the faster you cast the more chance of hitting you have.
That is all, hope you can find this useful.

I honestly don't know if it's worth speccing into as of Cataclysm. The way I see it, there's just no place in arms warrior rotation (pve) or priority (pvp) for slams. In PvE obviously you'd like to keep rend up, using mortal strike -> overpower and heroic strike to dump rage; In PvP it's about the same, except you add hamstring and survival cooldowns.
Then again, if you just so happen to get a free gcd and nothing to spend it on (rarely, but happens) it might come in handy.
With the recent buffs to slam (4.0.6) - no-brainer, mandatory.

^ vehystrix is correct. Slam has a cast time, reduced by haste, but you don't have to stand still while casting slam. However, you have to be facing the target and within melee range during the whole Slam.
Edit: apparently they stealth-nerfed Slam since my last post... so slam is once again tricky to use in pvp

This is very good to have. With 3 stacks of slaughter a slam crit will hit like a f***ing truck.
