While this ability is amusing to use on a DPS class such as a Mage, or Lock, or Shadow Priest, heck even the odd Balance druid and watch them Moonfire Spam someone for 20% more is enjoyable in PVP.

The PVE Viability of the ability is somewhat limited.
I haven't found too many boss fights where it would be appropriate to use this on a DPS class, especially with the recent nerf to the threat reduction on some classes such as the mage, it would be unwise to push their dps any high for fear of them over aggroing.

Maybe on Patchwerk, or if a guild uses the Hellfire method of killing the Panther Boss in ZG, i don't see any other real use for it other then maybe perhaps giving that last extra boost to kill a boss at low HP. Or perhaps force a little more healing out of someone.

In PvE, this ability is near useless, considering to have to sacrifice so many nice talents in the Holy tree to get it. However, in PvP it can allow casters to get some nice critical hits every 3 minutes!

A fun PvE use for this talent is giving it to a mage or warlock without telling them and watching them pull aggro. (It is not advised that you do this on any serious encounter, but it's good for a few laughs in MC)

And i gotta say that i had a lot of fun,
but the most fun i had was when i discovered that i could Power Infuse my shadow~friend~.
So next time i waited for spirit tap to proc, then i poped my icon of the silver crest, and then i used my shadowfiend and PI'ed it instead of me....
I got really amazing results b/c my fiend, whereas it regualry hits for about 150-180 (+1200 to all damage), was now hitting for a solid 215 and critting for 330!! thats 530-800 mana back per hit!!!
I tried again when all my CDs had refreshed, but this time i PI'ed myself and then cast my fiend (with Spirit tap/Icon) and got mediocer results compared to PI'ing my fiend.
But the really funny thing is that when i PI myself, my fiend hits for about the same, so i guess that what PI does is increase the potential of my fiend's mana leech ability, very odd.... and i will have to do some more testing...
I consider the spec above more of a pvp spec b/c of its survivablity and utility/recover rate, but i didnt pvp much that day.
but i know that i am not throwing that spec away for the usefulness of mana recovery that it provdes for my ever 5 mins :P
That spec was lots of fun, and i do recomend it, of course you can always tweak it to you own personal style ~.^

On a side note: I seriously don't understand why the site admins update the spell desriptions before the change hits the live servers. As of 2.3.3 PI does NOT do what is in the tooltip here. Just my 2 cents.

Power Infusion is good for Mana Burns and also good for healing a target that requires a lot of HPS.

When used on others, it requires good timing because if the caster you buff becomes CC'd, interrupted, silenced, or otherwise unable to cast, the cooldown will be wasted.

I'm probably going to get voted down but here goes:
Why is this still called POWER infusion? I mean, when it used to increase the amount of damage/healing dealt it made sense, it increased the POWER of your spells. But now, when it makes you faster and more mana efficient... what has that got to do with the word "POWER" directly? It has more to do with efficiency... I'm moderately picky when it comes to naming spells (they have to make some sense at least), but even a boring name such as "EFFICIENCY INFUSION" would be better to actually match the name and what the spell actually does... am i the only one a bit bugged about this?

I would try to use this one to heal a DK for fun, but forgot to target myself, and the DK got this. Not the right spell for the right class, I'll hope they're gonna fix it, so you wouldn't accidently spend a CD on the wrong guy.

Just a thought for all those Disc priests out there (like myself) on who you should be putting this on. Do a little research (or just ask around in guild) as to which casting class benfits the most from haste.

I've found that mages and destro warlocks love this spell, as do elemental shamans. Moonkins have very fast spells already and often stack haste as it is, and since, if I remember correctly, you can't lower the Global cooldown below 1 seconds anyway, this might actually be slightly wasted on your Wrath-spamming owl friend, especially if Bloodlust/Heroism is up. Druids, feel free to correct me on that if I'm wrong.

As a general rule I throw this on the highest dps caster in the raid who isn't an owl. I also try and save it for when Bloodlust/Heroism isn't up for the above reasons. For extra special caster love, co-ordinate this with your chosen caster popping their on-use spelldamage trinket for extra fun.

I hardly ever pop this on myself as my disc heals are fast enough already!

Little known fact:

Platinum disk + Power Infusion + Borrowed Time

= 5.6 sec res cast time.

I got one off in a 2s match the other day (it was me vs. a shadow priest. Kited him away, got the fear and then came back and stood out of LOS). Obviously, gg.

Unbeknownst to me, a priest in 10 man VoA put this on my elemental shaman last night. Said shaman had Wrath of Air Totem down and has 480 spell haste to begin with. So her Lightning Bolts are at a 1.66 second cast. I didn't even know I had PI on me until someone typed in raid chat, "Holy lightning bolts! There was just like five of them in the air at once!"

Must have been a couple Lightning Overload procs in there too, but it was pretty funny at the time.

so, beings this was changed to haste from SP, does it now stack with Arcane Power? if so does it stack with Icy veins? it would be really useful to cast on an arcane mage right when they pop thier trinks, along with arcane power and icy viens.

This talent spell goes perfect if you specced inside Attonement for the extra spell cast speed. This is a reliable spell to Increase a fellow spell caster's DPS or hasten up your healing. Attonement is great talent to have if you want to heal a tank faster as you smite the boss as well. So smite is a 2.5/3 second spell cast. With Power Infusion you can decrease the time that you smite and heal your tank twice as fast.

As a disc priest I use this mostly in arena when you see yourself getting into a mana burn battle. Keep track of the enemy's PI cooldown, wait when he used it for some random matter and let your teammate kite your team's dps target towards you (most easy if you are training a melee target). The other priest will have to follow, you pop PI and engage the burn battle when he is somewhere in the open. He is forced to get a heal out on his teammate, and even when he is trying to get burns off you at the same time, your haste will make you get 3 burns off while he manages to do 1-2, depending how much he has to heal. This an easy way to change a game since 20k of healer mana can easily make the difference between winning and losing. Inform your teammates about what your planning and make them silence/stun the incoming burns.

Positioning and communication is often just as important as CC!

Since this buff increases only SPELL casting speed, it should only be casted on those who cast spells a lot.

Mages/Warlocks/ShadowPriests/BalanceDruids/ElemShamans will love you for gifting them this buff.

Hmmm,

I can already imagine this spell in its maximum effect - the priest shielding the mage and buffing the mage after he/she has been buffed also with arcane power and the trinkets, along with any temporary bonus buff effects. The outcome would be insanely critical damage within that short period of time :D

I like this but i dont think it last long anuf, like the 1 in BG buffs 30% up and last 1 min. where this 1 only last for 15 sec. the mage cambo is cool cuz they can cast lots of spells in 15 sec but if i want to use it for my self it only around 3-5 heals or dmg spells :/ kinda disapointing how short it is.

at least I don't think so, the stacking must've been unintended

mages can use Arcane Power, then once it runs out, they can get the Power Infusion buff after if they have any extra mana to burn

besides, it's better to have 20-35% extra damage spread throughout mages' spellcasting (= aggro over time) than on a straight duration of +55% damage spellcasting (= repeated Earth Shock threats in less than every 3 seconds)

PVP, mages probably won't last long enough to be able to use up both AP and PI, but then again, with either buff they can already kill at least one player in one shot or a matter of seconds

This has to be the worst series of posts on thottbot. The spelling and grammar are cracking me up. And I love the rant about priest's nurfs. Please post again, I'm sure blizzard is reading.

Btw a shadow priest who has trouble with hunters 1 vs 1 is either spec'd wrong, or just doesn't know how to pvp at all. They're so easy. A holy priest shouldn't have any trouble either. I'm spec'd shadow but was able to fear off dot and run from a hunter while heading to bwl in my healing gear... once they're out of mana, auto-shot ftl.

I was thinking of installing a macro so as to tell the unsuspecting Lock or Mage that they had received the buff, but being a complete nub in this area i can only make a guess that it would look like this...

I had to laugh when I saw this nerf. it's so stupid.
power infusion didn't even need a nerf.
mana burn needs the same CD they nerfed onto hunters.
that's the one they should have done $%^& to.
idk, maybe this is better for pve.

This spell should be self cast on the priest ONLY. This I because Power Infusion does NOT trigger global cooldown. You can cast this spell on yourselves, activate 1-2 trinkets AND cast Pain Suppression in the main tank. All in one single keypress! And then you can spam heals on the tank at 20% reduced casting time. Do not waste Power Infusion on a dps caster!
