Either I've been very very unlucky, or they've changed the droprates tremendously.

I've been killing Quillfang and Thornfang in Hellfire Peninsula, of those two I had best droprate from the Thornfang, but nowhere near 20%.

It takes me less than 30 seconds to kill one and move on to the next one. With looting and skinning I'll be nice and say I take 1 minute per kill+loot+skin (I'd estimate it more to 30-45 seconds). I've killed them non-stop for approx. 3 hours at one go and 4 hours another go. Total those 7 hours netted me barely 50 Fel Scales. If droprate were 20% I should have gotten 80+ Fell Scales (7 hours, 1 skin per minute = 7*60 = 420 skins * 0.20 = 84 Fel Scales). And I'm even being generous, because I skin more than 1 per minute.

When not using mana shots, only Kill Command when critting, it takes me less than 45 seconds to kill and skin the mob, and that is where I am not sending pet after the next mob while skinning the current kill). When farming I always let pet eat away on the next mob while skinning my latest kill, and I use Steady Shot a lot between Auto Shots, so this decreases the average time per skin to approx. 40 seconds (again I'm generous). Taking those numbers intead would increase the number of skins to 560 ((7*60*60)/45).

I then tried the basilisk in Zangarmarsh, after reading the stats here at WoWHead. After killing 30 of them and I didn't get a single Fel Scale, I moved away from them again.

To summarize: I'm horde on EU-Balnazzar, for me the drop rate were a measly ~9% from Quillfang/Thornfang in Hellfire. I had most luck with Fel Scales from Thornfang, but a lot more flesh from Quillfang. The Ironspine basilisk in Zangarmarsh didn't give any at all.

Whether you farm ravagers or basilisks for these should largely depend on which type of food you'd rather have after a long grinding session. If you're a melee class or a hunter who wants attack power, go for the ravagers. If you're a spell damage class, basilisks are better.

Alot of people in other sites suggested the Shard-Hide Boars of Blades Edge, I think they 86'd that in the 2.4 patch. As many as I killed, one should have dropped them from what the others quoted.

You can find a lot of different Basilisks dropping Fel Scales along the western edge of Zangarmarsh, starting at around the same height as Sporeggar and going all the way up till the ogre encampment.
Unlike on other places like Sylmir Lake in Terrokar, I never had to wait for respawns.

the shard-hide boars in the Vortex Pinnacle (29,72 in Blade's Edge) have nice density and pretty high drop rate, -and-, really fast spawn rate (by the time i finish one side, the other side is already spawned)

i just run around, pulling as many as i can, and AoE (level 74 BM Hunter)

i got all the Fel Scales i need for leveling LW from 340 to 350 (about 28) in less then an hour.

The basilisks in Terrokar are simply the way to go - so easy to kill, so many of them so close together, they drop fel scales as well as crystal infused leather. Can't see why you'd want to fly all the way up to Blade's Edge.

I tried both the boars and basilisks to get my scales for LW 340-350, the boars are better imo just because they drop more knothide leather, which you're going to need too after all. The basilisks usually only drop scraps.

PS. If you're levelling a hunter or shaman, don't be too quick to get rid of all that crystal-infused leather. The Felstalker and Netherfury crafted gear, when socketed with cheap wotlk blue gems, is as good as anything you'll find in Northrend until the mid-70's.

I've tried to Quillfang and killed like 10 of them only got 1 felscale.
But the Ironspine Basilisks in Zangarmarsh had much higher drop rate. I chose to farm here since they were so easy to group up as a 72 hunter. Also, the higher the level the mob is, the more likely it'll drop Knothide Leather.

I found the Thornfang Venomspitters and the Thornfang Ravagers at Thornfang Hill (approx. coords 10,50) in Hellfire to have a solid drop rate. As an 81 hunter, I worked a semi-circular path around their spawn points and ended up with 30 Fel Scales in about 40 minutes.

Aside from the scales, the skinning was mostly scraps with a few leather here and there, but for raw Fel Scales farming, it beat all of the other places mentioned here that I tried. Maybe I just got lucky on the statistical memory timer!

I got a number of these while farming Dampscale Basilisks in Terrokar for the eyes needed to switch from Aldor rep to Scryer. As Alliance, these and the eyes both sell for large amounts on my server making the farming of the Basilisks a good money maker.

Killing ravagers in eastern Hellfire Peninsula is the way to do it. Out of all the mobs that drop these, these mobs are the closest together. (this is after trying most of the other mobs) Took about 40 mins to get the 28 needed to get from 340 to 350 lw.

Combination Thornfang and Quillfang ravagers (mostly Thornfang) in eastern HFP, for my 85 cat druid, yielded 40 Fel Scales in about 45 minutes. Hit Quillfang first, then moved over to Thornfang and did a couple of circles around the spawns. That's what yielded the most Scales between the two.

Minus my Guild's Bountiful Bags perk, about 29 scales in 45 minutes. Prolly just got lucky, but I won't complain.

Hands Down the best place to farm is along the edge of The Dead Mire in Zangermarsh killing 沼石踐踏者 and 沼石崔薩力克. Tried farming in both Hellfire and Terrokar and the drop rate was terribad.

Have just done two 20-min farming sessions with a lvl 85 DK for trivial comparison purpose (as well as breaking through the LW 340 - 350 barrier). Note that all non-leather items are not listed here for simplicity:

1. 沼石踐踏者 and 沼石崔薩力克 around Dead Mire's edge

Note: The respawn rate isn't high enough for continuous kills, so better do it along with other gathering professions.

2. 裂牙潛藏野豬 on Blade's Edge

Note: The boars appear more in abundance near both Forge Camps, those in the middle area (Skyguard and Ogri'la sites) are more scattered.

Give and take some luck, I'd say the rate of getting 魔化鱗片 is not too different from both sites. However, one may have other consideration regarding other materials.

I'll attempt to update and add more sites if time permits. Site suggestion welcome.

The best place to farm Fel Scales is Dead Mire's edge. Plenty of mobs (Marshrock Stompers), and a nice respawn rate. Make a complete circuit of the outer edge, and they will have respawned at the beginning.

25 minutes farming:
30 fel scales
48 knothide leather scraps
10 knothide leather
11 crystal infused leather
35 chunk o' basilisk
2 greens and trash worth 16g 36s 20c

Best place that I've found was in Blade's Edge killing the Scalded Basilisk, 1-2 from every other. The biggest problem is not as many spawn, but the ones that do the chance of the having it seems good.

I have found a much better drop rate for the scales off of Bladespire Basilisks(71-72) in Blade's Edge Mountains. These mobs are found, as far as I have found, only in a very small group at 33,49 in Blades Edge.

Note: this spot is only reachable on a flying mount(or druid flying form)

Terrokar forrest - I killed 22 of them and had 7 Fel scales and 2 crystal infused leather... Thats the best drop rate i've found. I ran from 56.30 - 63.27 killing them. Happy hunting! :)

I farmed the Dampscale and Ironspine Basilisks in the Silmyr Lake area. I took a break after getting 40 meat (Blackened Basilisk sells very nicely in AH on my server, which is why I picked basilisks to farm). At that time I had the following:

40 Chunk o' Basilisk
26 Dampscale Eyes
43 Knothide Leather Scraps
19 Fel Scales
15 Knothide Leather
7 Crystal Infused Leather
assorted vendor trash

Not exactly a bad drop rate for the scales.

I found these while doing the quest Ravager Egg Roundup in Hellfire Penninsula. I got 5 scales of skinning 26 Razorfang Ravagers. They doesn't seem to drop from the hatchlings. I was a bit afraid of it because I only needed 1 for my fel scale gloves and 1 more for my fel scale boots so i thought these will be hard to find, but they aren't.

i had less luck with them and they're even higher level. i had an 11% drop rate off chompers, but i had a 25% drop rate on quillfang ravagers (west of falcon watch) and 18% off the quillfang skitters skinned ~20 of each mob. also skinned about 20 razorfang ravagers which had 20% drop rate, but they are few and far between and surrounded by lesser mobs that only drop scraps so the quillfangs are the best bet imo.

I got a fair deal of theese from the 70-71 demon boar things that walks around in the Ogri`la area.

I rather farm those since they have a chance of dropping nicer things than the ravagers.

I am a level 63, and I just started from one end of the road and went back and forth. I got fel scales from the both Ravengers. After covering both sides of the road twice, I ended up with 15 fel scales. But the drops are not consistant as we all well know.

Go to 23'66 in hellfire peninsula. After only one hour i got 20 fel scales and 10 crystal infused leather. Great spot for farming these.

i found that the basilisks in terrokar, near the rivers and the ones norht of firewing point along the ridge drop them more often, i got 10 in 30 minutes, i know it was 30 minutes cuz i started farming when Family guy started and i had 10 by the time it ended

The Dampscale Devourer in Terrokkar Forrest along the river banks have about a 30% chance to drop them. I don't know for sure but i feel the level 64 ones have a higher chance to drop. Not a lot of knothide leather but a lot of fel scales and a lot of leather scraps. Way better than the gay Ravagers. Hope this helps.

I've found that if you farm the Thornfang Hill Ravagers on the north side of the road, the drop rate is much improved. Start with the northernmost ravager (watch out for the giant). Then farm your way back to the road. I usually have about a 50% drop rate on these. Once you get back to the larger cluster along the road and on the southern side, the drop rate decreases quite a bit. Respawns are fairly quick, so once you reach the end (this being the ravager up the hill behind the thorns), simply return to the starting point. Happy Hunting!

In OL, near Allerian Stronghold and Bonechewer ruins. Just looopp between the two and you will get a ton in no time. Also, you get the Basilisk eyes, which are good for rep with Scryers. If you're aligned with Aldor, sell them on AH for bling. They also skin for lots of knothide scraps and leather.

That is how I made my entire Felscale Armor set.

I killed about 30 Shard-Hide Boars and got 2 Fel Scales :/

You also need these to make a Leatherworker's Satchel- a 20 slot leatherworking bag.

The mats are: Fel Scales(4), Fel Hide(4), Knothide Leather(20), and Rune Thread(3).

Although the Shard-Hide Boars are indeed the best place to farm Fel Scales (killed ~40, got 6 scales), they do have a very nasty spell reflect, which reflects your own spell back at you! It's even capable of critting! The spell reflected takes all your charactaristics (except for spec, only spell damage/crit) and can hit you quite hard. Casters beware.

So 14% drop rate for me, not too bad but I wish it was better.

GO TO ZANGARMARSH-HELLFIRE BORDER...killed 48 ravager types (all the varieties in that area) and got:
12 fel scales - kept track, it's about a 1:4 ratio consistently
1 crystal-infused leather
11 knothide leather
33 knothide scraps
2 greens, each lvl 93, worth total of 5g58s87c
junk parts and grey items worth 5g51s5c
14 ravager flesh (cooking mat)
Good luck!

Went back the next night, killed 40 and got only 6 fel scales...but also got 6 crystal-infused leather...so either I was unlucky this time or lucky last time

I found that the Dampscale Devourers north east of Allerian Stonghold (along the water) in Terokkar Forest drop a fair amount of Fel Scales as well. I've farmed there serveral times with drop rates around 20%. No greens so far after killing 80 or so, but plenty of vendor trash along with crystal infused leather (3-5%), knothide leather (5-7%) and knothide leather scraps (*sigh* 70%).

I agree the Dampscale Devourers north east of Allerian Stonghold are a wonderful and easy source of Fel Scale and close to a nice looking alliance base is always a plus.

The Ironspine Chompers in this area also drop the fel scale.

I also had some luck with the Dampscale Devourers near Allerian Stronghold! :)

I started grinding at Allerian, and killed the devourers all along the water -- as far north as Tuurem.

In about 30 minutes I skinned 8 Fel Scales, 10 Knothide Leather, 7 Crystal Infused Leather, and 20 Knothide Leather Scraps.

So, the Fel Scales didn't have a high drop rate for me -- but they dropped! And it was funny because they always came in twos.

I tried as the above post advised. It's confirmed, going up one side of the river then the other on the way back (both forks)I got about the same plus an eternium lock box and a green fist weapon. Just an additional note: you will get a lot of chunk of basilsk, so get a recipe using this and you can level cooking as well. You have leather training/bank at nearby shatt, so it is very handy location :)

At about 29,74- right on the border of Ogri' La and Forge Camp: Terror- there is an area that spawns the boars pretty frequently, and they drop the scales pretty regularly. I've also spent time trying to farm the scales from the Dampscale Devourers in Terrokar, but they seem to come up more frequently here.

Forget blades edge & terrokar, the best place to farm these by far is Hellfire, the venomspite thingos near the border of Zangar. I got 2 of them in just 10 minutes.
