You get to him by clicking the Mysterious Camel Figurine around Uldum. They have a chance to teleport you to his area and you get a debuff giving you 20 minutes to kill him.

so...good question...

Say one were to just wait up in steam pools, with the hopes someone would find a statue and spawn the guy. could that person possibly tap the mob before the one that got ported there?

Here i find figurene with id 50409 (screenshot with id in npcsca), then i was teleoported to kill Dormus the Camel Hoarderscreen (screenshot before start combat) and last screenshot with me and mount.

I have a question. would this come up as anything for a hunter using track elementals or anything like that?

I found a camel figurine and got ported to Dormus, here is a video of the kill.

Used addon to find the figurine was npc scan, the little camel is a humanoid so you can track it as a hunter. You need the camelbuff to see Dormus.

I found the figurine yesterday on my paladin alt.

I want to mention that I was 83 when I found it and was able to solo him easily as Protection. (Go figure)

It was funny to watch him fight me holding camels in his hands LOL.

I wanted to mention that he was affected by Hammer of Justice.

Also dont aggro the other camels around him I accidentally consecrated and got 2 on me plus him, made the fight alot longer than nessacary.

He spits this poison thing on the floor that ticks for nature damage if you stand in it. Probably not him spitting but the camels hes holding.

There are two Mysterious Camel Figurines

1. 50409 (This is the actual one that teleports you to Dormus)
2. 50410 (This is the fake one that turns to dust and gives you 25g)

There are two reasons that I can say this with the utmost certainty
1. There have been no claims to disprove this, all recorded figurines that share the "50409" ID have been found to teleport the user to Dormus. This alone, is not enough to prove the theory, just further establish it; however, coupled with the second reason, there is no reason nor cause to doubt.

2. Under the "Abilities" tab of "50409" there is a spell called "Sandstorm*" whilst its counterpart "50410" has no such ability.

*Sandstorm: Unlimited Range ~ Swirling sand surrounds you!

Taken from a post in the "One Hump or Two?" comments section:
"Once your exalted with the faction the mount will be there. Until you are exalted you will not seen the mounts (as of 9 Dec 2010)"

Anyone able to confirm this? Seems unlikely due to the fact that the mount doesn't come with the tag of "Requires Ramkahen - Exalted".

A new feat of strength with an associated title, "the Camel-Hoarder", has been added for players that have bested Dormus and obtained the Reins of the Grey Riding Camel -- because there must always be a Camel-Hoarder. - taken from MMO - Champion.

Looks like we're getting another reason to hunt this one down. :)

It's possible to trade this mount to someone who was not there when you found the figurine, so long as they are in your group and present at the steam pools when you kill Dormus. They won't be able to see your fight with him, but they'll be on the loot table so long as they're grouped and close enough.

I can confirm this firsthand, as I was just traded the mount from someone who told me to meet them there after finding the figurine.

You can no longer get multiple mounts from 1 figurine. I just tried it via group loot and master looter, neither worked.

Edit: I spoke too soon, you can trade it to your party member!

Seems you lose the debuff that lets you see them now when you log out. Previously i was able to log-out and keep the debuff and log-in and kill this guy multiple times. Looks like they finally fixed it so that you can no longer sell the camel, or get him for friends. :(

Went to Uldum stupidly to check if it's bot free to farm some ores and found this little figurine (50409) at Neferset City, got the mount. Time was 1:07 am on Balnazzar EU. Cute mount,although it seems like the animal has hip dysplasia haha, good luck to those who r looking for it, it's really adorable.

Found out how to get the Camel on a level 40-70 Get a 85friend to get the camel figurines...you have to be waiting near him in another phase - he dies..you get the camel.

When you find the correct Mysterious Camel Figurine in Uldum, you get transported (after spending a few seconds in a Sandstorm) to the Steam Pools in Feralas, and receive the Dormus' Rage "debuff" that allows you to see this guy. If it ticks out, he "retreats" and you phase back into the normal Steam Pools.

First off, you'll see a bunch of camels in the area. These are neutral, have no drops, and just serve as "ambience" for the encounter IMO. Their only offensive ability is a basic melee attack, and shouldn't really pose a threat to an 85 even if you somehow pull one/some while fighting Dormus.

As for the big guy, he's got just over 271k HP and attacks primarily with Camel Smash for about 1.8k per hit. His attack speed is fairly fast, leading me to believe he dual wields those things. He also uses Spit (projectile) every 8-10 seconds that leaves Spit (puddle) on the ground at the location of impact. This is used 3 times at once, implying that this is actually used simultaneously by each of the camels he's holding (yes, he's holding two in his left hand somehow) rather than Dormus himself. This is both easy to avoid, and fairly weak...but can add up quickly if you don't pay attention.

When you engage, it's simply a matter of unloading on him and killing him before he kills you; don't hold back, because if he wins you have to go find another statue. If you're geared for at least heroic dungeons, you shouldn't have any problem at all even just killing him where he stands. If you're not 85 or undergeared, the keys to victory are staying out of the puddles (they'll do about 2.5-3k DPS on their own without resists) and making sure not to aggro other camels. If it gets dicy for whatever reason, Dormus is susceptible to pretty much every form of CC in the book that can affect humanoids. Beyond that, basic-level kiting should be enough to minimize his damage and earn the kill.

Fun facts:

The camels in the area have no nameplates. You simply can't make them visible at all.
These camels also seem to randomly die off every so often, being replaced by new ones.
When Dormus himself dies, he "drops" his 3 camels and they hang out around his corpse. You can attack them, and they won't attack back, evade, or pretty much even notice you're attacking them at all. You also can't see their nameplates either.
Dormus takes about 30-40 minutes to respawn. Prior to 4.1.0, it was possible to preserve Dormus' Rage by logging out to fight him multiple times for more mounts and trade them to party members who were present in the immediate area for the kill (albeit in a different phase). While this method of trading can still be done, logging out now removes the debuff so you can only kill him once.
Dormus drops no gold nor anything else other than the mount, so unless you possess the means to trade/sell it to others, there's really no reason to hunt for more than one statue per character.

Was luckily enough to be teleported after NPC Scan found the figurine and after finding out what it did I spent 5 mins frantically searching for it.

My scan went off at the Akhenet fields and I found it on top of one of the small huts at the northern end.

Was worried at first but Dormus is very easy to kill (as an 83 BM hunter).

Other than camels and his corpse the area is pretty lifeless.

Now proudly displaying my Camel-Hoarder title and riding my butt ugly camel around SW.

Not really adding anything useful, but I just had to share my Grey Camel story. :-)

Levelling an alt druid, finally hit Uldum. I've got NPCScan active on all my toons - y'know, just in case there's a rare around I don't notice visually. I get the Mysterious Camel pop up. Not expecting to actually hit the 5% and be eligible for the mount, I click it. Sure enough, I'm whisked away. A brief fight later, and my druid is now Jaxaclysm the Camel-Hoarder. A much better title than Jaxaclysm Jenkins or Jaxaclysm the Patient. :-)

Now to wait until MoP is released so my main can also be a Camel-Hoarder. :-P
