This piece, along with the Titanium Impact Choker https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=42645, are the two best neck pieces for Melee DPS pre Naxx 10/25. Easily attainable and a very good upgrade.

Actually, according to EJ's Death Knight DPS Compendium, this neck is only a slight upgrade to the Gold Amulet of Kings in terms of itemization. Still definitely worth getting (it's basically the Amulet with a bit of extra agility), just not a complete must-have for all DPS classes. Personally, I'd save the badges and get me a Mirror of Truth.

Not sure why this got downrated, as the information is all true.

Well as an unholy dk i can honestly say that this is better for UNHOLY specced dk's then https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=42645 simply because of the amount of crit on it combined with Wandering plague. On the other hand though i personally see the choker being better for blood specced dk's because most of their yellow damage comes from heart strike.

As far as I can tell, there are no significant STR/STA necklaces designed for anything but tanks. This is pretty common with capes, too. As a Retribution Paladin, I'd prefer to have STR over raw AP, but given the circumstances Agility does add to crit chance so this neck is about the best I can do outside of Naxx.

The reason that your post has been downgraded is because Str is essentially useless to a DPS class in comparison to agility. Besides Mirror of truth is a completely different kind of item seeing as its a trinket......The best thing is to get both depending on your class, but as a rogue i highly recommend getting both if you can....after all you will have to run a lot of heroics before your geared for Naxx and VoA and the other items you can buy with your emblems are not going to be very important unless you are getting tier 6.5 gear. So saving your emblems in exchange for that item is a huge waste and will cause a decent loss in DPS.

The Gorget just isn't designed well for Druid tanks - too much spent on Str and Def.

I agree. The Gorget also has too much spent on stamina and dodge rating.

Druids get more dodge from agility than other tanking classes, so dodge rating is intended for non-druid tanks. The agility on this necklace will give about the same percent dodge that the dodge+defense rating on the Gorget would give you. The agility also gives you 90 armor and ~0.5% crit, so you come out ahead.

You get roughly the same AP from both, so the only thing lacking on this necklace is stamina. But that's perfectly acceptable for a druid tank, here's why:

Here is a list of level 80 plate and leather non-pvp armor sorted by stamina. Of the top 50 items, one is leather. Druid tanking gear has less stamina than the gear for plate-wearing tanks. That's why druids get +25% stamina in dire bear form, +6% stats from Survival of the Fittest, and +10% stamina from Heart of the Wild. This is a druid tanking necklace, the Gorget is not.

The only good stat the Gorget has is hit rating, but since it only has 21 you can easily make that up elsewhere.
