This quest is fun, but can be very frustrating. Fortunately, the various steps that lead to your escape have 'save points'.

You are told by the first raptor you see to 'speak to any raptors you see'. Each new raptor you talk to will teach you a new ability. You begin with the Dash skill, and have to make it outside the compound where you begin.

At the exit to the compound is a raptor that will teach you to Bite Through Nets. Since the Trolls use nets to capture you and send you back to the last point you were at, this is a useful ability.

The third raptor you encounter will teach you to pick up burning twigs to Light Tiki Fires, but first you have to sneak around and find a sleeping Troll and steal his lunch. Bring it back to your Raptor buddy and he'll teach you the new skill. Like a lit match, you have to make it to a Troll Tiki and set it on fire before your twig goes out. (Hint: You might find it useful to Dash to light a Tiki before your twig gets snuffed. They only stay lit for 5 seconds.)

The fourth raptor who helps you will teach you to Drop Skulls. Time to put all of those new skills to good use. There are pa-Trolls (sorry) that pace the bridges you need to cross to escape Zul Gurub. I wasted a lot of time using the Skulls to try to block the Troll as it chased me before learning that isn't how they work. They SCARE the Troll into leaping off the bridge. (Huh. Go figure.)

It's a matter of timing, timing, timing. There are the Trolls on each bridge to get past and trios of Trolls patting around between you and the exit. You're probably going to get several chances to practice this phase.

Near the exit, you'll need to burn one more Troll Tiki, only to find your way out blocked by a pair of Troll Bosses. Blah-blah-blah, and the quest is over. Still no Lashtail Raptor Hatchling pet. /sigh

Depending on pats, this quest can be incredibly frustrating. I got caught about 8 times on the skull part because of the damn pats before I gave up and decided to do something else.

also, yes, it can be very frustrating - but! the pats are pretty avoidable if you try to use the paths as little as possible. just avoid them at all costs, since dart and eat through net will not save you!

IF you're finding the 3rd part of this quest to be extremely retarded you'll find the following info useful :
You do not have to enter the tent to grab the food to give to Tenjiyu ...simply walk up to the back of the tent and take it through the wall...figured that out after the 5th guard attack =/

As for the last part of the quest...drop the skulls so the trolls will see them and run away in fear (funny), grab some fire and (3) light your tiki and when the guards run to put it out (1) Dash your way to the door..and somehow someone STILL catches you before you get out (even though you complete the quest )

Looks like someone fixed this on Wowhead, originally when I looked it up it had the next quest as "Surkan" or something like that, with completely wrong directions. Now it says Ghaliri, which is the right one. I was driving myself nuts thinking I missed something.

On a side note, this was fixed only moments after I received an answer to my ticket asking about it, so I have to wonder if maybe a GM told wowhead it was wrong. Either way, glad it's fixed now!

If you're in the middle of this quest and your LFG queue pops, dismiss the raptor first, then accept the queue. Failing to do so means you'll be stuck as a raptor, unable to finish or abandon the quest.

But, bright side: you're a baby raptor.

The parts that I had the most trouble with were the food-retrieving and the skull-dropping. To get the food, you can actually get it from going up to the back of the nearest tent and mousing around in it until the little loot bag pops up. Loot it and run back to the raptor. With the skulls, you have to time it so that there are no three-person patrols near the bridge, and the one-person patrol ON the bridge is at the other side. run onto the bridge once you have picked up your skull (from the tent closest to each bridge) and drop it somewhere along the bridge, (be careful not to go too far in or you will get caught, though!) and wait for a few moments. The bridge patrol will come walking back and trip. It's pretty funny! Run like the wind across that bridge!

Although, personally, those were the toughest parts, I realize that it wasn't easy to get past even the first part, especially with your lack of abilities at this stage. This part is all a matter of timing. Make sure that the closest patrol is all the way over to your right hand side, and the patrol up ahead by the second raptor is about half-way across the road it walks over. (It doesn't really matter which way the patrol is walking, because it won't make much of a difference since the only thing that matters is that they are off the path. If you want to be safe, though, go when the second patrol is walking to your left, because they walk further that way than to the right.) This way, the first patrol will be too far away to see you, and by the time you get to the second patrol, they will have already passed out of your way! Do remember that when you are running through the middle or past the first patrol to steer clear of the two trolls at the bottom of the staircase of the building you started off on and to try to stay as direct as possible, because if you shy far away from one troll that is eating by the road, you will most likely run into another one that will catch you, have have to start all over again. Boooo.

Took me quite a few tries, but I hope this note will help you get it done faster than I did.

The hardest part of the absurd and childish quest (has Bliz just decided no one but 12 year olds play anymore?) is the torch/tiki burning. Here's the thing:

Don't stop to light the torch. Click on it as you run past (the gear icon will show up and you can be moving), and then use your fire power as you near the tiki - again, don't stop. You will need to use dash on the 3rd one, probably on the 2nd as well. Once you know this, you'll do it in one try.

I like this quest. It never bugged out for me (except for dropping the skull behind me, but like that's going to make a huge difference), and the baby raptor is so cute!

In case you are stuck with the last step with the skull.

- Get a skull, watch for the guard to be far back on the bridge,
- go to the middle (or any part) of the bridge, drop the skull,
- run back and wait for the guard to get close to the skull.
- He will be scared and jump of the bridge :)
- Then you are free to go and sneak by the 3 trolls and repeat the first steps for the second bridge.

Edit: When u finish the quest and do a Zul'Gurub run, u get this lovely pet Lashtail Hatchling, after u kill by doing . Just look for the exclamation mark :)

Maybe they've tweaked this quest (patrols etc) and sorted the bugs but it all worked just fine for me and I managed it with only 1 capture on my first attempt at the 3rd tiki(I think - last one before the first bridge) where I had to light the previous tiki , run past the guards and light the torch quickly from the brazier just past the gate then use dash to get to the next tiki in time to light it. If I stopped or had to relight the torch, the guards from the previous tiki had returned to their position and were too close to the brazier to relight without getting captured. Other than that its just a question of finding a position between guard groups and watch/wait to get the rythym of the moving patrols - take your time, judge your "dashes" and keep an eye on your "dash" cooldown. This was a real joy of a quest for me, so dont be put off doing it whatever your level - your classed as a lvl1anyway so level is irrelavent and the rewards are pretty fair at that level for a bit of thought and patience. Incidentally - gamelore be damned - I want my baby raptor back Mr Blizzard - make it so! == Update for anyone who hasn't successfully killed Mandokir in the new ZG instance and wants the raptor hatchling - if you have completed this chain the hatchling should appear near the arena-like area where Mandokir is fought - look for a quest "!" mark around the edges - the little raptor should be there with a quest "An Old Friend" for you - complete that and its happy family re-union time. If that's not clear - my apologies - look up the quest"An Old Friend" on wowhead

This quest, , was a lot of fun, I took a bunch of screen shots haha 'cuz I love my little raptor. It's really easy to complete, and I'll tell you how, but I'll let you know.. once you finish the quest line, you don't get to keep the hatchling, Ohgan'aka ..

Anyways, you have to be attentive. Talk to all the raptors that have a talk bubble, because those are the people you need to "talk to" ... First step, don't run down the stairs, jump down the side... be watchful of guards! Don't get caught. Get to the first raptor at the doorway into the second part. They will teach you how to "chew" a net, but it's absolutely useless and just postpones your recapture. Always be on the look out for guards! Don't get close to them, because they will start you back at the last raptor that you talked to. It gets aggrivating sometimes, lol, while screenshotting I got captured a bunch of times.

When you're coming down the hill torching the first braziers, watch out.. Troll Patrol will come out from the left .. just be weary, and keep your camera looking around at different angles to see where they're coming from. Just get up to the little shack with the pile of skulls, you'll need one of them for the next step.

Pick up the skull and you'll have 26 seconds with it. You need to drop it right in the Patrol Troll's path to make him trip and fall into the water. Zip across the bridge using the 1 key. He will respawn. You'll have to trip up a couple more trolls, burn a few more braziers... when you get across the bridge, there will be a path.

When you're on the path, there is a Troll Patrol and also a Troll female running back and forth through the path. Use the bushes to your left, and you'll need to get across to the next shack to put out the last brazier. There is another Troll Patrol that is going to come up from behind the shack/fire/brazier .. just be weary of them.

And that's pretty much it. Just run your little hatchling butt up the stairs and see what happens from there :)

At what point is this quest supposed to end? Because I go up the stairs, past Shade of the Hexxer, through a little hallway towards a portal, and then right at the portal I get caught and sent back to Chiyu. This has happened 3 times so far. What am I missing here?

Be sure to go to your left after the last bridge (2nd or 3rd?) to avoid the 3-pat walking from the bridge to that last tiki. I went right, fell into a pond, and got ported back to the questgiver. I feared the worst, but luckily when I ported back in I was back at the beginning of the skull part (Not the whole thing lol).

Anyway! This is the way you should use the skull:

Pick up the skull, and wait for the troll on the bridge to be away from you. Then run up the bridge, put the skull down and go back to a safe spot. When the troll comes walking back, he will trip over the skull and fall off the bridge. You then have an empty bridge to cross :)

If you have done this quest chain, when you go back into ZG at the appropriate level (or just gear level), Ohgan'aka will be waiting for you tied between the two bamboo poles at Mandokir. Defeat him, and a ! will pop up above her head, allowing you to take her back into your loving possession.

Untrue. I got the North STV quest achievo just before I started this quest. I think there is an item that starts a quest, which drops off one of the trolls to the north, that you can miss. All other quests are pretty much unmissable.

i don't know if anyone else is having issues but when i started this quest and asked to start the mind control i got ported into the raptor body and the first raptor there wouldn't let me talk to him and when i tried to run around the instance i couldn't see anything past the first room. i turned off all my addons cleared my cache ran a wow repair and i couldn't get the quest to work so i sent in a ticket for blizz and this morning the gm talked to me and said she had had a few complaints about vehicles being buggy. she said there was nothing she or i could do but she sent in the problem to the developers for a fix so maybe there will be a fix for anyone having this problem.

Right now this quest is bugging on my realm (Illidan - EU), after having spoke to a GM it seems there are syncing issues sometimes with this quest. Blizzard is aware of it and is working to solve this issue I've been told.

Like most of these gag-quest, this is so bug infested that it boggles the mind. First time i entered, there was only one NPC (the first raptor) in all of ZG, and he would not talk to me. Now... ZG is a pretty big place. A confused raptor hatchling on small legs can waste massive amounts of time running around there trying to find someone.

Logged out and in again. Now the NPCs were all there. Did the quest stages up until the running out of ZG. And its not doable. U run past Jindo, pop sprint and whaddyaknow. He catches u every time in his net, and sends u back to square 3. Great. And no quest completed. I swear... Blizz is messing with my head...

Set your graphics options to low and the quest WILL work!

I tried everything else, abandon quest, relog, disable addons, i even deleted my addons and the wtf-folder. Nothing helped after countless attempts.
But then i read in the official forums about the graphics settings and gave it a try - worked wonders!

UI resetting and the like (which a GM suggested) did nothing for me. What did work was abandoning the quest, changing the dungeon difficulty from heroic to normal, and then starting the quest again. (Just changing the difficulty did not work; I had to abandon the quest first.)

Hope this fixes the problem for some of you!

This quest is completely broken for me. I spawn in ZG as the Hatchling, but the first NPC to talk to doesn't spawn and the hostile mobs pay no attention to me at all. I couldn't leave the vehicle and abandoning doesn't fix anything either, I had to log out and back in again. I found myself alive in a graveyard on the other side of the zone.

It might be that my settings are naturally at low, but abandoning the quest, turning graphics up to fair, taking the quest and turning them back to low does not fix this for me. Neither does turning them up, restarting WoW and turning them down after i've become the raptor, or trying to do the quest with the settings set on Fair all the way.

First off, I had terrible trouble interacting with the first raptor on the terrace. It just wouldn't talk to me, after relogging, disabling add-ons etc. I made a ticket. GM answered me after 5 minutes (on an alt), telling me to try an download a new driver for my graphics card. Did that but no joy. So decided to leave it for a bit. Now one week later everything is OK, and I managed to complete the quest although whether this had to do with a new driver I don't know. (NVidia GT230M).

To the quest itself a tip about the final bit: after setting fire to the last tiki, run up the first flight of stairs only and wait there for the quest to complete.

After many tries on this quest, I was stuck at the end also. After you burn the last tiki, dash up the first set of stairs and stop on the landing. DO NOT go past the Hexxer. Just stand on the landing below him. You will see a bunch of dialogue and after that you will get your completion.

All of the suggestions helped a lot! However, I got to the end, listened to the trolls, got strangled, then got ported back to the quest giver with quest complete, but I did not get the pet. HELP! :-)

This is an other quest which absolutely requires some kind of cheating or special knowledge to get you past impossible.

I spent several hours trying to get away from the platform and never got more than about 30 or 40 feet away. so I had my son get me to the first save point without showing me how (I may want to come back and spend a week or two defeating it later.

It only took me a couple of hours to get through the feeding and lock the second save point. I then went crazy with the braziers and tikis. I did get a few tikis to ignite but in most cases I kept getting you are missing reagent burning twig message. I went to the exrtent of getting a counter and clicking off the twigs that I picked up and 150 twigs was not enough to get past the lack of reagent. (it could be bugged but I think there is some stupid little secret)

I had my son get it past that save point and I have been working on the skull stage for several hours. I have made it across two bridges but cannot get much beyond that YET

This is the kind of quest that Blizzard should offer some alterrnate options for. I would gladly repeat the 9 million XP for level 84 to 85 in leiu of this quest.

I am one quest shy of the 50 northern Stranlethorn quests achievement so I do need to get through it

Here's the most effective method I have found for this quest:

1) Open quest log
2) Select the quest 'Be Raptor'
3) Hit the 'abandon' button
4) Relax, secure in the knowledge that you do not have to attempt this mindless, retarded pathetic piece of baboon %$"*.

5) (optional) gather together an angry mob, buy several torches, pitchforks, and rope, travel to Blizzard HQ, locate developer responsible for this nauseating quest.....

If, like me, you hate this quest but you're after the zone achievement for loremaster, take note. I was 49 of 50 quests with only this one left to do. I exited the game, immediately logged back in, and found I'd completed the zone achievement (50 quests). I don't know if it's a bug, but I tried it with a second alt and had the same result.

Wow is this a horrid little quest~! The end is nigh impossible to finish . Even after reading the comments here it is still :(. The skulls only work on the bridges and only 1 patrol goes over them, so the rest still send you back! Dashed my love of Stranglethorn Vale all to hell. Update: Tried it again today. Put the skulls in the middle of the bridge. Run back and get more skulls while the guard jumps. Put skulls on 2nd bridge. hide while the guard jumps. Run across the bridge to the fire, grabs sticks and set the tiki on fire. Dash past the guards and run until you can't go further. Wait for the dialog to end, you will have the quest!

This quest is required for Northern Stranglethorn Achievement.

Finally figured this one out. You must be in the spirit as a baby raptor to finish this quest. You'll appear with Tan'shang, so talk to it. If you fail on any section, you'll be taken to the start of that section.
Avoid the Trolls and at the exit to that section You'll be given a spell to burn the nets they use to capture you. Stay to the right near the walls and you'll get to Tenjiyu.

Talk to Tenjiyu and you'll be asked to get soldier's food. That's in the farthest hut in the section you just sneaked through. If you sneak back the way you came and cross the path when no soldier's are near, it's easy. You only need one, so return it to Tenjiyu and you'll be given the way to get out of the next section.

Go down the ramp and pick up a burning twig from the fire, and use it to light the totem pole near it, by clicking on the fire on your bar. Soldiers come running, but ignore you, so run on to the next fire and repeat the process.

I'm not out of this section yet, but working on it. Again, timing and avoiding the trolls that you don't distract with the fires.

If you are disconnected or log off during this quest and want to go back to it later, go to Fort Livingston and talk to Thaalia. She will port you back in and it puts you right where you left off.

I'm simply not understanding something. When I cross in Zul, I go "thru" the instance, not into it as this alt. is only lvl 32. SOOOOOOO, i go all over ZG and there is not one single NPC with whom to interact. I went to the spots noted in the above map. ZG is devoid of anything except indigenous animals, flora, etc.

The quest starts very easy you have to get out of the room and there is a raptore who wants to eat. So you have to give him food it's in the tent in front of him. Give him the food and he lets you pass. Now you will have to light the torch on fire and quickly run down. Burn the webs and you are done with first of the quest.
Now you will see guards coming around the edge yes. You have to go where they came from. Wait for them to past, then run. Aggro the pack on the right, and tank them near the skull pile on the left. Once they are down, continue to the big brnahc there will be a troll in the middle, he is easy to kill. Keep going to the exit, where Jindo the Hexxer will wait. Alas here you lose your raptor.

This chain doesn't give you the pet, to get the pet, after completing the quest chain you need to do ZG, once you kill the boss with the raptor (can't remember his name) the little raptor will pop up chained to some posts at the back of the room and you free him then get him as a pet :)

A couple of notes: You don't need this for Loremaster. I got it before this. (I recommend EveryQuest for finding those offbeat side quests. Or check the page here for the achievement to see if something rings a bell.)

Probably stating the obvious, but still: In case you're in deep nerdrage and forget she's a vehicle like some of us did and logout, you'll come back in outside ZG instead of inside the quest. But you don't have to abandon to get back in and start all over. After some deep cleansing breaths and a good sleep, go back to Thaalia at Fort Livingston and she'll send you back in to the last raptor point. I actually recommend this; I found that the more frustrated I got, the more I was likely to rush my patrols in order to try to get it done faster.

Hello everyone!

I had a bit of a glitch getting registered for the Wowhead site but with the help of customer service it was resolved!

I have been following this and similar threads here re: the "Be Raptor" quest and first of all I want to thank those of you who posted tips on how to complete that quest. I spent over 16 hours+ to complete this quest...arrgggh! Since then I have been looking forward to reaching level 85 (currently level 67) so I can retrieve my little raptor hatchling.

Now for the question - Once Mandokir demands the egg back during the quest hand-in at one of the STV camps, can anyone verify if the eggshell fragment disappears at that point, or even at the completion of "Be Raptor?" - or does it remain in one's inventory? I *thought* I deleted mine when I needed bag space while out questing and submitted a ticket to customer service to have it restored. I received a response (although it took 4 tickets to get a straight answer) that the eggshell fragment disappears from inventory once Mandokir takes the egg. Just need confirmation of that to know if I should thank the GM who provided that info or continue to pursue it.

This quest can be very annoying, that is if you don't stop and think through what you are doing.

It took me a couple of tries to complete, but once I had figure out all the quirks of this quest it was fairly easy, just trial and error would work but it'd be alot more frustrating. Acctually getting out of the first room is the thoughest part, atleast that's what I found.
