From the quest giver, take the mine field entrance at the right side, where the giants walk up and down the ramp.

This quest seems finicky. If you're having issues completing it, make sure of the following:

-You're shooting a giant that's walking TOWARD you--that is, you're shooting him "In The Face!"
-You're shooting from the minefield path as instructed in the quest text.

As a level 80, figuring I could just steamroll over this one, I shot from the bottom of the minefield path on a giant that was walking away from me. The giant died, but I didn't get credit and had to abandon the quest to pick up a new SFG (consumed on-use). The second time, I positioned myself around (31,60) so the minefield entrance picket signs were between the giants and I, and I made sure to shoot one that was walking toward me. This gave me credit properly.

Using the SFG didn't give me credit for the kill. I thought maybe I was "outside" the minefield, so I abandoned it and tried again from the middle of the minefield. Still no good. I wound up just having to manual kill one, and then I got credit.

edit because of post above me: both my shots were on Giants coming toward me, and still didn't count.

I pulled it so it was facing me shot it and completed.

After trying to kill the Giants twice with the SFG and not getting credit, I decided to try pulling one of them first and then using the SFG. It worked. So if you're having trouble getting credit, go ahead and try pulling one first.

I had to do this quest 3 times before it completed and after reading the other comments it seems like some other people had to do it 3 times also. Maybe this is what the problem is?

The first time I did it by shooting from the ramp at a giant coming towards me and it didn't complete.
The second time I pulled the giant first and shot him in the face and it didn't complete.
The third time I just stood on the ramp and shot one in the face again and it completed.

As a feral druid, I killed it the first two times while in cat form, as you could still shoot the SFG. I didn't get credit for it either time. The second time, I made sure to switch out of cat form and got credit for it.

Just found out why this didn't work for some , when they step over the mines , they take 10 dmg , so it might count as a ninja kill :] , so you just need to be careful that the giant has full health > pull it > apply SFG to face , job done
If someone else can confirm , that would be great.

Used the SMG and didnt get credit. Killed one without SMG and got credit.

I just confirmed the "ninja kill" theory. After waiting for the giant to reach the top of the hill, the giant's health will reset. Pulling the giant with an attack before it reaches the mines again will result in the quest completion.

Just in case anyone is wondering, you don't actually have to use the buggy SFG to complete the quest.

I simply killed him myself and that credited for the quest.

ok first off you are all in the wrong area..you don't go to the mine fields..you goto the area were you were bombing the naga in the quest First Degree Mortar . you will see several Enslaved Son of Arkkoroc walking up a hill. (31.40,60.84). just wait for one to face you coming up the hill and shoot BOOM HEAD SHOT and your done.

I did this 'sniper-style'. I went to that ramp that the giants walk up and down, and hid in the bushes a good 10 metres (Or yards... w/e) down the ramp and just shot as the nearest one walked towards me. I had no idea that this could ever possibly be bugged until some of you guys pointed it out.

Quest worked fine.

Us cool kids ( Paladins ) Can do this not by using the SFG. But by using crusader strike and word of glory =)

There is a real frustration here though in that "untapped" giants are fairly rare if you're doing this quest on-level and can't just aggro a giant before it walks into the mines while it is coming in range of you. Thankfully, I got this quest the second time with an untapped giant, and then scurried away as I had aggroed another giant in the process.

I just tried this. Shot the Son dead, went back to turn in the quest, no "?" Couldn't get another SFG so abandoned, took the quest again. Shot the son dead, but noticed, this time that I didn't gret the "completed" msg so used my spells to kill another one. 3 kills for 1 quest credit.

Did it on 3rd try. Just make sure that the mob has exactly 100% HP.

If you're higher level (30+ or something) and it doesn't count once you have shot the SFG, you can just go there and kill couple of them until you get the credit for using that SFG. I had to kill 2 or 3 of them in total.

hmmm... had to do it a couple of times before it actually worked. Kept saying i didn't killed him. Kinda laggy

I think the weapon we use (the SFG) might be a reference to to the BFG from the Doom and Quake video games. It's known as the BFG 9000 on the Doom series and as BFG10k on the Quake series.
BFG stands for Big F***ing Gun, so SFG might be Small F***ing Gun although I think the idea would be making a reference to the acronym (SFG -> BFG) and not to the whole name...
