Here is the simplest strategy. It relies on three abilities:
- Flame Spike
- Life Burst
- Fire Shield

1) Use Flame Spike to 5x combo points.
2) Wait for your energy to reach 90%
3) Use Life Burst

This three part strategy will cause you to win. The only complexity is added by their ability called "Arcane Surge."

To survive "Arcane Surge" you need to have at least one combo point on the mob and to use Fire Shield at the last possible second.

This is why we wait for your energy to be at 90% before Life Burst. So you'll have enough to Flame Strike + Fire Shield if she does it right after one of your Life Bursts.

The dragon you pilot for this daily is identical to the dragons used in Stage 3 of the Malygos encounter. For this reason, doing this daily is an excellent way to practice Stage 3 Malygos, or to check for UI conflicts with the dragon vehicle UI that may cause your life burst/fire shield to misfire at critical times in the Malygos encounter.

I had a little trouble on my first two attempts to down one of the enemy drakes. Then I realized that this daily is incredibly easy if you use a particular strategy. As in zero reaction required, zero chance of death, just use a fixed button-mashing pattern and auto-win. Here's how I do it. This method has never failed me so far.

1. Before combat: Target yourself. Stack Revivify five times. You will notice that you can actually build combo points on yourself. Make sure to keep it fully stacked as you search for a target.

2. Find a target near the perimeter of the cloud of drakes. This is important, since you can pick up adds on this daily (just run if you do). Now, making sure the Revivify timer is fresh, hit Flame Shield (while keeping yourself targeted). Now quickly target the drake you want to kill.

3. Mash Flame Spike five times. (button 1, your basic attack)

4. Hit Flame Shield. Note that Flame Shield is not on the GCD. For speed reasons, you'll prob want to hit as soon as Flame Spike #5 lands. (button 5, will block 80% of damage for 6 seconds with five combo points)

5. Revivify. You'll only need to hit it once, since you're just refreshing your five stacks. (button 3, healing DoT for 2500 a second with five stacks)

6. Repeat steps 3-5 until the enemy drake is down to maybe 5-10%, then finish it off by just mashing Flame Spike (assuming you're still near full, which you should be).

If you mash buttons sufficiently fast while using this method, you will have flame shield up about 80% of the time and your five-stacked Revivify will never go down. Using this method, my drake's health never drops below 90k for most fights. If I get unlucky and catch Arcane Surge (deals about 25k damage 3 times) while Flame Shield is down, I only drop to maybe 70k, since my shield will be back up before the second tick. Even in those cases, I usually end the fight at near full health anyway.

Note that the window to do all this and refresh Revivify is rather small. If you mash buttons too slowly or have latency issues, you may end up losing it. I usually only manage to refresh it with maybe ~2 seconds left.

This is probably slightly slower than other methods, but it's still pretty fast, and it requires zero in the way of effort. It's also relatively safe. If you're just interested in an easy rep daily which doesn't require thinking, this makes it one.

Here is an even easier strategy:
1) Flame Strike (x5 Combo)
2) Flame Shield

Repeat. Never heal. Never use "Engulf in Flames." And they always run out of health before you do.

As an added bonus you never have to worry about the Arcane Surge again.

Warning: Fire Shield is bugged and if you push it twice rapidly it will consume combo points without giving you the buff. So make sure to push it ONCE and only ONCE.

This quest is a daily quest, and one of the more fun ones XD
It serves two purposes.

1: Grinding reputation for Wyrmcrest Accord (so you can get the cool red dragon mount XD)

2: Prepare you for the Malygos raid fight. You see, Malygos is in three phases, the first is a ground assault on him untill hes at 50%
Then in the second face, he flyes up, and summons two kind of mobs that the raid has to defeat.
Then comes the interesting phase, for at the beginning the third phase, Malygos shatters the floor your standing on!
Just as you think it's all over and that the raid somehow made a mistake... The Red Dragonflight to the rescue!
For the Life-Bender has send her dragons to aid you in your fight against the blue aspect, and they catch your raid on their bags. And theese dragons use the same abilities as the ones in this quest.
So in this phase you burn Malygos for the last 50% and in the end Alextrasza comes and kills him.

And for the record, in normal (10-man) Malygos has about 6,900,000 health, and in heroic (25-man) he has 19,500,000 though the last numbers are yet to be confirmed.

This is very easy if you are teamed up with a friend (in a party.) One person attacks and the other heals the person attacking. Both get the kill and things go smooth and quick.

The times I was alone, this worked best for me:
1.) Stack 5 Revivify on yourself before you begin
2.) Flame Spike x5
3.) Flame Shield
4.) Revivify x1 (to keep the stack you put on earlier running)
5.) Rinse & Repeat steps 2 to 4 :)

I had trouble with this quest too till you get used to it. First thing you should know is, the 3rd spell, the lifebloom one, is bugged, it says it awards combo points but it actually uses em. Now that we got that outta the way, the simplest way to do this is to do the following.

1. Before engaging a mob stack lifebloom(the 3rd skill) x 5
2. Attack a mob with 1, then press 1 again.
3. This will give you 2 combo points, now press 2, the stacking dot.
4. Now that you've used up your combo points your 5 stack lifebloom is about to fall off, press 3 to refresh the 5 stack.

Repeat steps 2-4, if done right the fire dot will stack and you should be able to refresh the lifebloom before it wears off.

Why i use only 2 combo points instead of 5? This combo allows me to stack the fire dot while keeping the 5 stack lifebloom rolling.

Now if he casts arcane surge, make sure have at least 1 combo point, then press 5, this should negate most of the damage.

If done right you should end each fight with close to 100 percent hp.

The combo I used:
1. Cast Flame Strike Five Times
2. Cast Fire Shield
3. Cast Heal

Then, repeat :) So, a variation on the fire shield strat from above. The fire shield is up almost always, so you take minimal damage, and the HoT heals it all up - I came out of fights at 100% health almost every time. This is the main reason I liked it better than no fire shield - I would have to stop and heal up between engagements when I just burned the enemy down, but with the HoT, I stay ready to go.

Obviously there's a lot of different ways to do this successfully, so here's mine. It kills the dragons fast, for those who want to move on quickly for more dailies. And it guarantees you won't die.
1. Flame Spike x5
2. Engulf
3. Flame Spike x1, Engulf. Repeat once.
4. Flame spike x5, Fire Shield.
5. Repeat step 4. until profit.

You can be brought dangerously low if the Elites use their special abilities very freely but this doesn't happen often and still doesn't seem to be enough to take you down with 99-100% shield uptime.

when doing this quest, try not to hover over a platform/rock because if your dragon dies they can continue to target you and you will fall and die... so if you're over a platform you wont be able to get your corpse and will have to spirit rez unless someone flies up to get your corpse. >_>

Note that Revivify (the HoT) actually does generate combo points, as the tooltip says - it simply generates them on your dragon. Click on its portrait and you'll see a combo point counter, allowing you to use Fire Shield or Life Burst with the combo points you've gained from Revivify.

Another way I have found to do this is as follows:

1) 5-stack revivify on yourself
2) Find a drake near the edge (can be easily done by flying up above the drakes and then looking down).
3) Pull the drake and stack 3 Flame Spikes
4) Wait until your revivify is down to about 2-3 seconds to use Engulf unless the drake is using arcane surge, in which case shield yourself.
5) As soon as you have either Engulfed the drake or shielded yourself, hit revivify once to keep the stack rolling and repeat from step 3.

This rotation of maintaining 3 flame spikes and then waiting to use either engulf or shield has worked out fine for me. Some drakes you won't have to shield at all, in which case the rolling engulfs will bring it down quickly. Sometimes I may find it useful to 5-stack revivify on yourself and then use life burst just to get healed up.

Shouldn't even have to worry about heals for these. Just do a 3-4 point engulf, then stack 1 point engulfs until its up to 4 or 5. If they charge a arcane spell, just use the shield and you can go back to 1-2 spam. Usually finish every fight above 50% and a quick 5 point hot / heal and Im off to the next one.

Its worth pointing out that the mobs on this quest are almost IDENTICAL to the malygos encounter phase 3, on a 1 man scale as opposed to a 10 man scale. being able to do this quest easily without dying is a good way to know you are ready to take on malygos phase 3 when you get round to it.

the abilities are all the same, the boss uses similar abilities and theres very little different, so its worth using this quest to practice for malygos if your going to be raiding him in the near future.

I had an easier approach as following:

stack up revivify (button 3) five times before combat;

pull the dragon with 2 flame spikes (button 1) followed by engulf in flame (button 2) so you get 9 seconds of the first DoT;

hit flame spike again and wait for energy regen, hit engulf in flame to renew the DoT

keep doing so until you see a full stack of 4 or 5 Dots on the dragon and he should be dead by then, you shouldn't have to heal yourself at all by using this method

Here's how to really complete this quest!

1. First off, you should "jump in the !@#$pit, and start up the engines."
2. Next, tell nearby friends to "remove all the wheelblocks" because "there's no time to waste!"
3. Be sure to we're "gathering speed as we head down the runway"
4. Because you've "gotta get airborne before it's too late."

I don't know if this is a bug, but everytimes my dragon die... the NPC keep attacking me and dying in the air. I can't get my corp back for a raise...

So must use spirit healer and GOD = repair .

Today for the first time ever, I had one of the lower level quest NPCs kill me with a frost spell while I parachuted by.
No way to recover corpse as it landed on way up high on one of the upper curved parts of the spires.

In retrospect, if this happens to you, just click off your parachute and plummet to your death if you can't bubble, etc.
If you land like I did, you will be paying dearly for a spirit rezz.

Yes, it's better not to fail and have to parachute, but if you get in trouble up there, hope this helps.

Just a note, you're not really preparing yourself for the malygos fight if you can't keep revivify up on yourself and be able to put up the engulf in flames debuff on the enemy. You can get engulf in flames doing more damage than spamming flame spikes quite easily, it does 1500 damage stacking to ? stacks.

Edit: Updated strategies and macros after finally deciphering some of the complex mechanics.

EZ MODE:
You will want to keep Flame Shield and Revivify up on you constantly. They can both be refreshed in a short cycle:

This will refresh Revivify before the 10 second duration is up and will keep near 100% uptime on Flame Shield.
(Note that Flame Shield produces no GCD and can actually be cast quickly "between" 1 and 3.)
(Note that 3 requires a friendly target; you'll either need Auto Self-Cast enabled, OR the target-switching macros below, OR to use your mouse to click on yourself for every 3. Thanks for pointing this out, Cecilkorik!)

This will kill the mob without any thinking required, will survive his nasty Arcane Surge, and will rarely run you out of energy.
Approx. 1min 15sec kill time.

ADVANCED:

These dragons aren't mages. You can cast while faced away, moving, spinning, whatever. This means you can kite the mob away from adds safely while still maintaining your normal rotation.

MACRO. You can avoid having to manually switch targets all the time if you are comfortable with macros and pressing different keys (or rebinding 1-5 easily with a bar mod). Replace 3 with

/target wyrmrest skytalon
/cast revivify
/targetlasttarget

and replace 5 with

/cast flame shield
/target wyrmrest skytalon
/cast flame shield
/targetlasttarget

Only 4 requires manually targeting yourself now, and 4 should only be needed if you mess up one of these rotations. :)

OKAY WHY IS THIS SUPPOSEDLY HARDER?
1. You have to react quickly with Flame Shield and remember to skip to 3 to get a combo point if you just hit 2. That's not trivial, but it works when you've had practice. (You don't have to shield the whole thing... even just shielding one of the three ticks will allow Revivify to keep you up through the rest.)
2. Notice the {wait}s. Don't rush this! If you do, you will find yourself out of energy when you need to hit 5 or refresh 2 or 3. I tried rushing it. I even tried fitting in another 1, 1, 2 before 3. It doesn't work. Yes, you actually do higher dps even though you're not casting half the time!
OKAY WHY IS THIS SUPPOSEDLY FASTER?
Try it. :)
This runs off of minimizing energy spent on healing and shielding (way too much spent in the EZ MODE rotation) and using that to fuel stacking 2's, which ramp up to huge dps.

You may want to open with a longer 2 and a longer 3 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3) until you're comfortable with this rotation.
Approx. 45 sec. kill time.

Confused about combo points?
- When you use an ability, it places a combo point on the target of the ability and wipes any combo points on other targets. For example, if you cast 1, 1, 1, 1, you should have four combo points on the drake you're killing. If you then use a Revivify, you'll put one combo point on your Wyrmrest Skytalon and wipe all combo points from the mob.
- Additionally, when you cast something that costs combo points, it checks to see whether you have combo points on your target. This means that, in this example, you would have to be targeting yourself to use that one combo point (hence all the target switching in the macros above). This is a pretty nasty surprise if you're expecting a 5-second Flame Shield and instead you see "That ability requires combo points" and you get nothing. :-/

This doesnt appear to have been posted previously so I felt it would be useful to include the tooltip skill links for this quest.

An additional tip : If you find it difficult to deal with one drake or are near death: Revise your strategy. This quest is very intentionally suppose to be difficult to the inexperienced and very easy to those who have gotten the strategy down. Once you've gotten it, it makes for an easy daily quest and your raid leader will thank you for it, if they don't require it already.

The name of this quest may be a reference to the Iron Maiden song of the same name off of the Powerslave album.

As for the quest, it's fairly hard until you figure out the sequence and maintain somewhat of a beat.

Before I start a fight, I stack my renew 5 times (Button 3). Start firing off fireballs at my target (Button 1). Once I've gotten 5 bulbs on my target, I hit my Shield (Button 5) and then Renew (Button 3) again to keep my stacks up. I pretty much just repeat this process then. If I am doing it right and I am not running into any issues without lag, I should end the fight with anywhere from 100%-90% of my health. I've actually used this method while lagging really bad to bring myself up from 20% health back up to 90% health. In a nutshell

Before Fight : 3 3 3 3 3
Start Fight : 1 1 1 1 1 5 3 (Repeat until target is dead)

If you find your Shield is diminishing early, feel free to pop it early with only a few bulbs on the target. Your two most important things to keep up are your shield and your renews...the fight might take longer, but as long as those two are maintained, you should never die and eventually you'll break your target down.

Hope this helps. Think quest ranks up there with the Sons of Hodir dragon quest, except this is slightly easier IMO as you have more control of the pace rather than waiting for your dodge message to pop up.

Aces High!: A Quick Guide

One of the most annoying quests ever. Here's how to do it:

Go to Coldarra. /spit on the questgiver. Never go there again.

This way, you won't have to float down the Nexus for half an hour, you won't have to spend fifteen minutes killing something with half your hitpoints because you can do more damage by farting on the mob than you actually can by using the abilities, and you won't have to worry about spending a crapload of gold to repair when you die so far up you have to spirit rez, because, although Blizzard was kind enough to let us have spirit gryphons everywhere else in Northrend, this one spot was their big no-no.

If you are doing this for the first time, I suggest that you check below you. Try to be on top of some island, becouse if your drake dies, you'll be falling a long way, and if you're inexperienced, you'll prolly die more than once.

Today my drake was killed just as I was about to finish off the Scalesworn I was attacking. He was close enough that when my parachute opened I hit him with my axe, he died and I got the credit. I couldn't believe it.

This leads me to think that if you're a caster or have a good ranged weapon, you might be able to finish off a target if you're quick enough after you are dismounted and before the Scalesworn health resets.

Can anyone confirm this?

By far the easiest and safest way to do this quest is to use the following strat:

Pull an elite over above Corastratza.

1,1,1,2
1,1,1,2
1,1,1,2

then keep spamming 1 until the elite is dead.

head back down to Corstratza and get a new drake with full health.

rinse repeat

if by bad luck you get arcane surged, just use flame shield. if you die, you will just float safely down to the quest giver anyway

I just thought it was a big joke but if you read the lyrics of Iron Maidens song you see that its really taken from there.

You can do Aces High! twice in one day, one time. At first it is a regular quest. Gives 350 rep. The next it becomes a daily and gives 250 rep. So, after you do it the first time, go do the daily. End up with 600 rep from just the two quests, obviously one time.

I don't understand what's with all this USE FLAME SHIELD ALL THE TIME nonsense. It's a waste of time when the blues are hitting you for next to nothing and you have 2500 HPS going constantly on yourself.

Here is the absolute fastest and foolproof strategy, assuming you can work fairly quickly:

1. Before battle, reach 2500 HPS by hitting 3 five times. Hit it once more after you aggro a mob to make sure it doesn't vanish while you fight.

2. Reach five combo points and use 2, your damage attack. Not Flame Shield, jeez, what a waste.

3. Immediately after, press 3 to keep your 2500 HPS going.

4. If you see the mob go to use Arcane Surge, use Flame Shield, if you don't want to take much damage. This is up to you though, as it's totally livable as long as you have your healing going at full strength.

5. Mob dies incredibly fast, you lose maybe 10-15% health which recovers as you go to find another mob.

This will likely save you a good hour of your life on your quest to getting Wyrmrest exalted.

i just did this quest for the first time and what i found the easiest was to group with one other person, one person healed me while i killed the dragon. couldnt have been easier never lost any health ,its by far the easiest way to do this quest ,i do believe using this tactic you could take on two dragons at once. give it a shot nothing to lose but 10 minutes of your time. no more of this 1,1,1,1,5,3 stuff just 1 and 2 till dead, simple

This quest was impossible for me until first of all I read your strategy, and secondly until I realized that "auto self cast" in the interface options MUST be turned on for this to work properly. Otherwise, when you go to hit 3 to revivify yourself, it will instead pop up a mouse cursor asking you who to heal instead of automatically casting it on your soon-to-be-dead dragon. Then if you (like me) don't notice and continue blindly with the rotation without clicking, you end up not healing yourself at all, your revivify fades, and you go splat.

You can still do it without autocast of course if you're paying attention and careful where you click but do you really want to headache of having to insert mouseclicks into your rotation? I thought not.

Doing it this way, I rarely saw my health drop below 50% (from arcane surge), and it would quickly pop back up to full. It's so easy you could probably do it blindfolded.

A warning for soloers or those on low population servers:

This quest is a fantastic way to lose all your money on repair bills. If other people are not doing the quest at the same time you are, it will be difficult to fight just one dragon at a time.

Failing this quest is certain death because the dragons DO NOT stop attacking you once your dragon dies. They will continue to blast you as you slowly fall down to the ground. Avoid this quest unless there is others doing it too, as it is too hard to do this quest with more than one dragon attacking you, and every failure will cost you 10% of your dura.

You definately want to learn the advanced method if you are using this to learn how to fight Malygoes. Spamming 1 and 5 will get you nowhere in that fight. To contribute properly to your raid group you need to be able to keep 3 five stacked on yourself and also quickly build a large stack of 2's on Malygoes. Don't take the easy way out.

There are several key elements to this that haven't been posted. First, when you're new to this quest, stay directly above the quest-giver. That way, when your drake is killed, you parachute to safety. A mob will eventually fly within shooting range and there's no need to chase or to draw more than one.

Second, make this macro: /cast Revivify

It will cast the heal without having to retarget.

Third, the key is to keep a five-stack of healing Revivify's on yourself at all times (including before you fire your first shot). Cast as many Flame Spikes (1's) as you can, but leave enough time to hit Engulf (2) and your macro Revivify before the 10 second timer runs out on the five-stack of Revivify. Please note the buff stack and timer on the upper right of your ui (the normal buff position). That buff will give you the stack and the time remaining.

I was only able to get three Flame Spikes in before going on to Engulf and refresh Revivify. It won't matter if you can only get two in time, as long as the five-stack of Revivify remains up, you will kill the mob before he kills you. Good Luck.

Worst daily ever imo. Set up a 1 button macro and spam it; wow, that's fun. It's hard as f#$% otherwise. I'll be skipping any raid encounters that include this bull*!@# too. Blizzard tries to come up with new $h!+ and makes the game stray too far from RPG imo.

Here is something that I found which may make this daily more interesting :P

You can LoS arcane surge (which has a 3s cast time), you will have to "lure" the drake to a useful spot, which is possible because the drake will always chase you for a few yards in an attempt to melee you. There are a couple of possible corners you can LoS the drake, remember any terrain below where the drakes fly on are viable for LoS. I'll cite some examples.

On the big round platform which most of the drakes fly on, there is a "hole" in the center of the platform, as long as you keep the enemy drake about 10-15 yds outside the perimeter of the "hole", you can LoS arcane surge by flying slightly into the hole as the drake is casting it.

Another possible suitable spot to LoS is the 3 small rocks suspending on the air near the perimeter of the center round platform, there are only 3 such rocks. If you managed to lure an enemy drake here, to LoS the arcane surge, all you have to do fly such that the rock is between you and the drake. The rock is very small, so you should have enough time to fly in LoS while the enemy drake is casting it.

The last possible spot is right at the perimeter of the center round platform. LoSing using this spot is the hardest to execute as there isn't much space to fly below the edge of the center platform, so you have to make sure that the enemy drake is in a perfect position before you attempt LoS.

Once the enemy drake manage to cast Arcane Surge on you, you can't LoS it and interupt the cast while the drake is channeling. At that point, you'll have to get your shield up quickly or just eat the 75k damage which won't kill you.

i found the 111153 foolproof also. l sometimes have trouble w/ riding quests and new buttons. I simply counted one, two three four while pressing button one, then press 5, then 3 -- repeat. health usually near 100% at end. I stayed low to the disc just above quest giver - seemed less likely to get an add- fly up as needed, pull one down - repeat. Phazz; Your 1,1,1,1,1,5,3 was finally a god send. I died in that quest 5 times and then just stopped doing it.
I did watch some on you tube, but I decided to look here again and decided to try
one last time.

I found the following method to be faster, but requires some careful timing:

Stack 5 HoTs
1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3
Wait until the DoT duration is half, then refresh HoT once more
1, 1, 2
Again, wait until the DoT duration is at half, then refresh HoT
1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3

At this point, if you timed it correctly, you still have 5 HoTs, the drake has 5 DoTs, and will die after 1-2 ticks. I've never been hit with more than 1 tick of Arcane Surge using this method.

Great guide, and here's my twist to the second (faster) method of doing it:

Start out with 5 Revivify followed by a Life Burst and another Revivify. Doing this just before engaging a drake will ensure a full stack of HoTs running on your drake already, while having the 50% extra healing bonus too. It's important to do this just before entering combat
Attack a drake, using the 1-1-2-3 rotation explained by Phazz; if you've done this soon enough after the first step, the stack of Revivifys won't fall off your drake, and you'll be at full health most of the fight. As an added bonus, the target won't really get to do it's Arcane Surge, since it will die extremely fast.

My most succesfull strategy, which is also pretty fast.

Always fly straight up, so if you fail, you will parachute down safely and collect a new dragon.

When a dragon gets in range, I do 1, 1, 2, five times until it has 5 times debuff. Sometimes 2 is not ready, then just wait for it. 1, 1, 2 times 5.. Once the dragon has 5 times debuff hit 3 repeatedly for heal yourself, the enemy dragon will die of the debuff.

Once in a while the enemy dragon gets a crit off or something and you fail, just float to the platform and mount up on a new dragon and go again. On average I get shot out of the sky once every 5 dragons. I tried some of the safer strategies but they are too slow for my taste, this one is rather fast, gets the job done and it's simple.

I've found this works far better:

I just want to clear this up, both methods in the Guide of Awesomeness are great, but the second one is better, and a little confusing. Before you engage, if you want to be safe, stack Revivify fully and allow all energy to regen. Then repeat ...

Eventually, you will have to wait for your energy to regen to cast Engulf in Flames , which is where the <Wait><Wait> comes into play. All it means is to cast 1, 1, 2, 3 and there might be a wait between 1 and 2. You may lose quite a bit of health, but you will almost always live if you are only fighting 1 Drake.

The Advanced method is mush better, easier, and faster than the Normal method.

I really disagree with most "guides" that advocate spamming 1 and 5 (shield), or killing targets and planning to fall out of the sky and remount. They're slow and inefficient.

I use this: First stack 5x Revivify (Button 3) before engaging. Pull the target, then perform: 1, 1, 2, 3. Repeat. If 2 isn't available, wait for it. If you're about to lose your 5 stacks of Revivify, then 3 becomes priority to maintain it. You should never drop your 5 HoT stacks.

This stacks your DoT which kills the target incredibly quickly when it reaches the 3+ level, as well as maintains 5 stacks of Revivify on you at all times. You can also hit 5 (shield) if you see it casting it's arcane surge as, by this point, you should have sufficient DoT stacks to easily finish off the mob.

This isn't too different from the Malygos fight, except there you're not healing yourself. Just 1, 1, 2 spam and shielding. Sometimes not even shielding if you have enough dedicated healers on P3.

I found it easier and faster to alternate lifeburst and engulf in flames, ie like this:

target enemy
1,1,1,1,1,2 (puts a 5pt engulf on target, which will stack)
target self
3,3,3,3,3,4 (puts a 5pt lifeburst on self)
repeat (target will die on about 3rd repeat)

This strat does NOT use the shield at all but you should get so much healing that it is unnecessary. If they hit you with arcane surge you can do another round of healing instead of switching back to damage (if necessary).

It is a bit more dangerous than using the shield, and if another dragon targets you then you've got problems. But living dangerously makes it more interesting, right?

Just res at the graveyard , hope right on your mount and fly (carefully) back up to the quest giver.

Talk to her again and she'll give you another mount :)

Priest's Shadowform do nothing when you on the drake.
(about damage reduction and threat reduction)
because who dealing damage is the drake himself ,not yourself.

Priest's Power Infusion(+20% casting speed) can,t be cast on the drake.
because he doesn,t have mana bar.

Priest's Pain Suppression(40% damage reduction) works on the drake.

Mage's Dampen magic do nothing against azure drakes.
But decreasing healing from Life Burst slightly (from 22500 to 22245).

WOW, this quest was annoying only because I was following a bunch of over complicated advice. It’s not hard. You don’t need a macro. You don’t need to know any history blah, blah, blah. If you think about this quest to much you will fail.

Just wanted to mention, it helps to back off from the drake once it's closed distance; the melee hits can crit pretty heavily and it will significantly reduce your recovery time to avoid them. It doesn't seem like they follow you (at least not very frequently) after the initial approach.

(I follow the "1-2-1-1-2-3, repeat 1-1-2-3 til dead" strategy someone else mentioned, it works just fine.)

I know it'll just get converted into money, but if the quest requires you to be at level cap anyways, why doesn't it just say how much money you get? I would like to take the time to point out that despite what WoWHead says above under the rewards, this quest only rewards 13G 23S, and that is with lvl 80 AND exalted with Wyrmrest. This may be due to a patch, I am not sure. I just thought I'd point that out. Seeing the above mentioned 20G made me excited, but at 13G it is probably not worth the fly all the way out to coldara.

There's an easier way, and an excellent way to train for Malygos.

Stack up 5 Revivify, then just do 1-1-2-3 constantly. I never need shields cause I kill em so fast.

Engulf in flames stacks, so if you just keep doing 1-1-2-3, you will keep healing and keep stacking.

On Malygos, my 3 man raid stacked up 26 Engulf in flames. That's 1,500 X 26 (36k) damage per 3 seconds. Far more than 1k from Flame spike.

I usually get 4 stacks on the Scalesworn before they die.

I'm abit suprised that no one mentioned one important part of this quest-where to find the quest mobs. They are on the very top ring, one level above the quest giver. For some reason I checked the levels at and below the quest giver before I checked the top level.

Then as I was reading all the various suggestions for getting the quest done, I was attacked and knocked off the drake. Even so I had the mob down to very low health when I could no longer reach him. Of course he was still wacking away at me until I died.

I was unable to find a way back to the corpse (on the highest ring) from the graveyard since I was not provided with a flying mount, as is normally done in such circumstances. Those of you that died trying this quest didn't mention how you overcame that obstacle. I can only assume you were provided with a flying mount-I wasn't.

I find this type of quest irritating, not entertaining. Quest abandoned. Wrote a ticket. You have to be able to get back to your corpse after you die in a quest.

I found out today that as a lvl 85 caster, you can just be on the platform, target the Scalesworn that are in range and take them down . You get credit for the kills with your spells.

Now you don't learn the skill for the raid, though.

My tactic, that works every time:
(Don't remember the actual names of the abilities right now)

Flame shot x5
user combo points on shield
immediately switch target and heal self x5
use combo points on shield
immediately switch back to drake and flame shot x5
use combo points on shield
flame shot x5
use combo points on shield
etc etc

You can mix a heal x5 into the rotation whenever needed. If you do this right, the shield should be up 100% of the time, meaning you won't take much damage and only have to switch to a healing round occaisionally. Exception to this is the first round - you should always heal after your first volley of shots, because you didn't have any shield for those first 5 seconds, and will have taken a bit of damage. After that, healing is needed much less frequently.

I'm sure there are other tactics, but this one works for me every time. Apart from that, I just have to say I think this is my least favourite daily of them all. Takes such a long time to kill each drake, sitting there spamming numbers keys.. "1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 5" etc

Took me a while to get the hang of doing this without dying.

1) I walk the dragon to the edge of the ledge and then fly straight up, well past the top platform and wait for blue dragons to fly into range. Having to parachute all the way to the ground if you die takes forever and if you right hover over a little platform, the dragon you attacked comes down to finish you off after you've been dismounted and then you have to Spirit Res. By walking to the edge of the quest giver's platform and flying straight up, you fall far enough to be out of combat and land right where you can re-mount.
2) While you are hovering waiting for dragons to come into range, keep clicking Revivify, to keep it stacked five times. This button says it awards a combo point but it doesn't - it actually CLEARS all combo points when you click on it.
3) When a dragon comes into range, hit it five times with Flame Spike (#1) to put five combo points on it. Then use Engulf in Flames (#2) to put a dot on it.
4) Your Revivify will be almost up, click it once to reset it to nine seconds. This is really the key - five combo points and one click to spend them and then refresh Revivify while it is stacked five times.
5) Hit the dragon five more times with Flame Spike (#1) and then use Life Burst to put a HoT on yourself. Click Revivify (#3) again to refresh it. The blue dragons have some kind of uber Arcane attack that hits for a lot and you'll need both heals going to make it through.
6) Five more Flame Spikes (#1) and another Engulf in Flames (#2). Refresh Revivify. At this point, you might not have enough energy to hit Engulf in Flames right away, so you might need to hit Revivify five times to get it going at full strength again.
7) You should be able to repeat step 6 until the dragon is dead. The Engulf in Flames DoTs stack, so its life should be dwindling fast.
8) Make sure you are at full health and have Revivify stacked five times before pulling the next dragon.
9) If you pull a second dragon, use Blazing Speed (#6) to escape - two dragons will kill you dead.
10) Every time I used Flame Shield, I died. Maybe someone else has a different approach for it?

This quest is very frustrating for me. I have not been able to kill even ONE of these, let alone the required number for the quest. :P I have read comments/hints on various forums and tried them over the past couple of weeks, but I must not have the coordination it requires--I cannot imagine doing this as a daily. I do the temple daily all the time with no problem. I wouldn't even keep trying, but I want reputation and I don't do dungeons.

These are the exact same drakes that you have to fly on during the second phase of the Malygos encounter. That being said the quickest way, not the easiest, but the quickest is to put revivify on yourself five times. Just before that runs out refresh it always even when your inbewtween fights. You only need to use #1 two or three times and then use #2. However while doing this make sure that you always have 25 energy banked. The reason for this is that you can always use the shield (#5) just before the arcane barraage, that is the only time the shield should ever be used. Also make sure that when you use your shield you time is correctly to begin working just before the drake finishes the cast no when it begins the cast. If you keep revify at 5, shield only when neccesary, and keep trying to get engulf in flames debuff stacked as high as you can the quest becomes pretty easy, and as stated earlier great practice for Maly.

This is actually really easy once you get into the habit of it. I read both of the strategies here, and died doing both, so I simplified and combined the two. This is what worked for me, with the importance of keeping 5 revivifies up at all time, start with 5 up:

1. Shoot dragon 5 times
2. Flame Shield
3. 1 and 2 should take about 7-8 seconds, hit revivify to keep 5 running, if it expires, hit it 5 times.
4. Repeat

Killing five took about 10 minutes at most. I never used the big DoT or the big HoT, only little DoT and little HoT, and never came close to dying once if I never broke from the routine.

I use the following system, which is essentially/exactly as described at the end of the quest info above.

Hit 3 five times to get Revivify up to max, then get an elite in range (hit 3 every now and then while searching) and use

1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 5 3 (1 = fire attack, 5 = fire shield, 3 = revivify)

This gets your 5 combo points on the dragon, then max duration shield and a refresh on the basic HoT, keeping it at +2500/tick. The pre-repeat 1 5 3 combo takes advantage of the different cooldowns for shield vs. attack/heal there's a much shorter gap between these presses than the buildup 1 - 1 etc.

Once I get the rhythm down on this, I end every fight at 95-100% health.

Atleast for me, this is undoable in the current state of WOTLK classic.
You just can't use your shield.
Plus you will get randomly dismounted and die if you try to fly there with your own mount.

Ok so in WotLK Classic this is broken where you cannot use the shield.

Here was the rotation I used to get around this:

Get your 5 stacks of Revivify and then you do 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3 and just keep repeating this. As they get close to dead your mana will get low. Just click the 1s a little slower. You may not have the mana for an engulf near the end. Just skip that engulf and do a revivify and go back to flame spike x5 and you should be able to get the next engulf.

This isn't the fastest method but gets you through the quest alive.

Trying this in Feb of 2023. First attempt to fight a dragon, I got it to half health and then I got dismounted, Landed safely on a platform where I could not mount no matter where I stood. I had to either fall to my death, or hearth (which was on CD). Immediately dropped this quest and will never do it again.

Approach the platform the quest giver is on from outside the ring. If you try and fly up the inside you will be dismounted before reaching them

07/14/2023 - 1,1,1,5,3 works great for me every time. To return to Transitus Shield after the quest is completed: You can talk to the npc Corastraza after completing, and she will ask you if you're ready to fly. She gives you a drake and you can fly off the platform. You'll get the message to return but ignore that, as when the mount disappears beneath you, a parachute carries you safely to the ground.

It should be noted that in current Classic WotLK, that you cannot mount once the quest is complete, and so have no way to leave the platform once quest is turned in.

Attempted this today (01/07/2024) for the second time. First time I was dismounted mid-flight many times, so I didn't even get to try.
I tried many of the strategies of this comment section to no avail. Nearly half my day spent on this one quest alone.
Every single one failed, as my dragon was killed before getting even 1 of these dragons to half health.
This quest is bogus and shouldn't even be a dang daily. I can't even get the main quest completed for it to be a daily!
