This quest adds continuity to a quest you complete earlier from Chromie called Mystery of the Infinite (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=12470).

If you don't do this quest, but you completed the earlier one then the world will explode. Please do this quest. Well... you must do this quest or else your future self will never appear to help you in the past.

The Bronze Dragonshrine is located at 72,39 - in the mountains north of Wintergarde. (Don't mischange it with the Obsidiane Shrine, i did.)
Go to 71,41 and use your Hourglass right at the stairs.

Nope the blizz AI just stinks. My past-self attacked with a dagger too, even I'm not that much of an idiot. :)

This would be so much cooler if they tracked what you were wearing the first time you did the quest, so the past you was wearing that instead of whatever you have now.

Not only is Past Me an idiot who thinks that resto shamans should melee with their maces, she's also a bit of a man-happy slapper. Partway through this event she abandoned me to go help some musclebound warrior bloke who was doing the same quest nearby.
Fortunately, the final elite never spawned for me. She killed his instead.

Did this quest on my rogue, iv always been mutilate spec, i love mutilate... i dont remember having hemorrage when i was lvl 74.... Did i unconciously respec? or is blizzard making my talent tree up!

My friend was doing this quest, he raids often, and came across some really sweet gear, with all his stuff, his crits from earth shock and such are insane, but as we did the quest we had this little conversation.

Him: Hey dude?
Me: Yeah?
Him: You know how great my gear is right?
Me: Yeah... is this some kinda insult on my armor?
Him: No, no, no. But you seriously know how good my armor is right?
Me: Yeah, you got a few things from Heroic Naxx right?
Him: Yeah... well my past self is a jerk.
Me: Why?
Him: He says that it could have been a lot better...

Your past self will copy whatever gear you are wearing when you summon the hourglass. If you get naked and then summon the hourglass, you will have a naked <insert race> punching some dragonkin to death. Very humorous to try this if you can take the dragons alone.

I did this after i had hit 80 and got some gear.....my PAst was like "Whoa! You're me, but from the future. Hey, my equipment got an upgrade. Cool!" So i was like you r gear beter have an upgrade....then when flying back He said "I think i'm going to turn to drinking after this." As me being a boomkin my past self had to just stab everything with my dagger.... go figure.

I encountered a time paradox (read: weird glitch) doing this quest.

I was previously specced as a combat swords rogue and recently switched to combat fist weapon/dagger to raise those profiencies for the Master of Arms achievement. I have never gone past the first two tiers of the Subtlety tree at any point with my toon.

During the fight, I noticed a strange debuff being applied to the Infinite Dragonflight mobs: Hemorrhage. It certainly wasn't me, so it could only have been my Past Self. Which should never have hapened, since I did not do the previous quest as a Subtlety rogue.

Seriously, this makes me wonder how Blizz programmed your Past Self to operate. This almost implies your Past Self's abilities are determined by the gear you use.

Quest completion is weird.

I put down the Hourglass of Eternity but got invited to a Sarathstra, Scourge of the North group, so I left without having attacked anything.

Before engaging Sarathstra I all of a sudden completed Mystery of the Infinite, Redux. Even though I didn't defend anything, in fact I was in the other end of the zone. Weird.

Well this is an intresting paradox.

Its assumed your past self will think his future self is awesome. How I remember it was seeing my future self, I just thought this is bollocks, I won't be wearing lv72 gear at lv78+, who is this retard? In which case thats what my past self would have been thinking at the time.

And yet, ironicly, my past self somehow is wearing the same lv80 epics I only got from being lv80, which he couldn't have done so since he's not lv80 yet.

Just did both quests at level 80. In the first one, my "future self" was level 80. Twenty minutes later I did the second one, and my "past self" was level 75. Blizzard math...?

But, if you do this quest after a faction change, which means you did the first quest as a member of the opposing faction, it shouldn't show an exact copy of you, which it shouldn't anyways since you've got a gear upgrade and..ooh I'm gettin' dizzy xd

so let me get something straight...
Past you is you doing Mystery of the Infinante and Future you is doing Mystery of the Infinte Redux. But if you let Past you die in this quest you don't die. So you can obviously let yourself die and not get yourself killed. So if you don't die by leting yourself in the past die your past self could have just ran back from the GY... but by doing that you would have died in the future. So if you die in the past you won't die in the future, but normally if your past self died you wouldn't exsist at this moment. But if you get yourself killed in the past you don't die in the future and get to see another day. But if you die in the future you still live to see another day and don't die in the future (unless extreamly careless) But if past you dies and you live that would be a time paradox because if you die in the past you in the future wouldn't exsist...
ok now i'm confused.

I postponed this intentionally until I had the best gear I would get for the time.
I did one quest after the other, in the same gear. This is what I noticed:

1. In the past, I was able to wear tier 9 - 10 at level 75. (Lucky me!)
2. Even the same gear, is an upgrade. (Past You whispers: Whoa! You're me, but from the future! Hey, my equipment got an upgrade. Cool!)
3. All it takes is 10 minutes for me to have made regrettable decisions. (Past You whispers: I just want you to know that if we get through this alive, I'm making sure that we turn out better than you. No offense.)

Conclusion: Time travel is a headache and things are always better in the past.

I did the former quest at level 74 on my Warlock without realizing that a good amount of my gear was broken at the time... I died, but noticed my Future Self was still there fighting. He finished the quest for me, and I ran back and turned the quest in.
Now I'm level 80 and did this quest. About half way through, I got stunned (didn't know they did that) and they all turned on my Past Self and killed him, thereafter, I finished the quest...

My mind is officially blown.

I did this as Dogmeati, Level 81, Warrior-Protection, solo! I kept Argo up on every mob that appeared, so Mini-Me was always DPS on them! Worked great! Level up!

Have no idea if it's because of the achievement points or not, but it made me giggle. My character had 5100 achievement points at that time.

Chromie, at the top of Wyrmrest Temple, has asked you to travel once more to the Bronze Dragonshrine.

Anyway, the Infinites are after you! Well, not you per-se. Rather, they're after the past version of you that defended the Hourglass of Eternity. You remember, right?

That was you back then, except it's you now too. Wait, that's not important. What is important is that you head back to the Bronze Dragonshrine and defend yourself and the hourglass from their attacks before you get erased from history!
