The quest seems to imply that Nozdormu is secretly the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight.

Speculation is that since Nozdormu is "gifted" with the knowledge of where he will die, when he will die, and how he will die, he has created the Infinite Dragonflight in order to change events in Azeroth's history so that it will never come to pass. Of course, as every little children's movie about time travel tells us, fate will find a way to do away with him eventually.

I personally hope that Nozdormu isn't the leader of the Infinites, but you can't deny it'd make one nice plot point.

Ironic how your future self wears the same gear you do... you'd half expect him to wear Tier 7 or something lol.

As a fury warrior try to stay an even threat with your future self for if you get low hp you can let him out threat you so you can bandage. Very easy quest to solo, just don't tank the elite for too long.

Maybe Nozdormu split into two forms?
One is the Bronze form,from the present and one is the Infinte from, from the future ?
The Bronze wants to save the hourglass and the Infinte want to prevent the world from a great disaster.

soo my future self has an ugly haircut, has same gear as me, and 5k less hp, and is level 80...

According to the records of what your future self says on Wowwiki, its most likely that they will give your future self much better armor and weapons. Here they are anyway:

Chromie is kind of dense. You are sent to reveal the leader of the Infinite Dragon Flight. It reveals Nozdormu. Which means it IS Nozdormu. But Chromie is a little scatterbrained for a time traveling dragon.

Its a classic tale of someone knowing that something will happen in the future, so they try to stop it, invariably setting into motion the events that cause it to happen.

I'd just like to toss something out there: everyone keeps saying it's likely Nozdormu is likely the leader of the Infinite Dragon Flight, and is attempting to change his future.

Seeing as how time travel has always dealt with fatalism, it's very possible that the death he has forseen for himself is when he is killed for trying to lead the Infinite Dragon Flight. This is just -the way things have to be-.

Maybe he knows this is how time has to flow. Maybe there is a much grander reason for him to die after trying to rebel, that we cannot yet understand. Just tossing out a theory.

I for one really hope that Nozdormu isn't trying to stop his death but bring it about, being the loyal aspect of time he is supposed to be. Quite frankly I've had enough of the whole, "Aspects are too Powerful and are abusing their powers and they need to be stopped!"

Also in regards to an earlier post, the Nightmare isn't nessicarily an expression of Ysera's insanity but could be that of an Old God that has managed to wiggle its way into the dream, possibly the one whose skeleton is on prominent display in Darkshore.

If you notice closely after completing this quest,Chromie hesitates to reply about whether or not Nozdormu is the leader of the Infinite dragonflight,she brushes it off and changes her theory of "revealing the leader" to being "thankful he's alive and well" and telling us that he's fighting against them.

The reason i think she's hesitating is like..if no one has seen or heard from Nozdormu in ages and no one could contact him..how did she know he was fighting against them..?

Dosnt Azerothian time depend on Nozdormu's survial? I think it said that somewhere in The Well Of Eterntiy trilogy. And at the start of one of the books, Nozdormu is flying and has a reurcoring dream about his death. Im pretty sure the Ancients told him that the point of his existence was to keep time working. And cant he be at a diference place at each different point in time? Meaning that if he went evil, then anyone who tried to kill him he could just go back in time and kill them.

im not sure about other hunters. i jsut did this quest as BM. i had pet out and growl was active. future me was a great tank - pet couldnt even keep aggro of future me.

loved standing back and shooting the mobs to death while having 2 "tanks" runnign around to hold them.

It's very funny, if you get transformed into a "holiday" gnome (only availabe during Winter Veil) and do this, your Future You will also be one, looks very funny, when you go out of the "costume", your Future You still looks like a gnome.

I'm a mage, I started to lose it when the elite came out, and I popped invisibility, hoping it would go over to my future self. Instead, it just completed the quest as soon as I left combat, the dragon dropped aggro, and my future self dissappeared. Maybe you can shortcut the whole event right in the beginning this way?

For Rogues If you are in stealth before your future self shows up, then you would not be able to see your future self. Which kinda sucks...

As an interesting note, "future you" gets weapon procs! When I saw him wearing the same gear as I, I let the quest fail, equipping Thunderfury before dropping the beacon. I watched him fight and his Thuderfury procced at standard rate, debuffs and all!

Uh guys, if you haven't read at least Well of Eternity's first two chapters, than you do not know that Malygos is not evil, just insane, Ysera is not evil, just asleep while her dreams destroy things, Nelfarion is evil, Alexstraza is a goody goody, and Nozdormu is very suspicious, and if he did indeed create the Infinite Dragonflight to stop his own death, than we will eventually know that he is a selfish dragon, and there will a be quest or new Caverns of Time instance where we gotta kill him, with hopefully the help of Ysera, Krasus, and Alexstraza. Also, in The Well of Eternity, Krasus sees Nozdormu in the middle of the anomaly...I am still reading that book so I do not yet know why he was inside the anomaly, kind of like a bug stuck in a web.

Chromie, the quest giver, first appears in the Ruins of Andorhal (Eastern Plaguelands). Nice to see an old face reappear. :)

As for the whole Nozdormu thingie, here's my two cents: Perhaps, the Infinite Dragonflight are themselves from a different time. In past eons, a younger Nozdormu could have tried preventing his death, creating the infinite dragonflight himself. Since Nozdormu can apparently travel through time, it makes sense that he could have traveled to the distant future when he was still younger than what we see him as in this quest. He only could create the flight in the future, since history does not state that such a flight has existed- if he did it in the past, then there would be mention of them.

The Infinite Dragonflight could have been purposed with preventing Nozdormu's death. And in the present, Nozdormu has realized his folly. Maybe he's seen that changing his own fate will have disasterous consequences on other beings, and now fights with his bronze dragonflight to correct his eronous ways.

Congratulations, Blizzard, for giving players something to really think about.

That's not quite right about all of them going nuts and evil-ish.

Naltharion/Deathwing was messed with by an old god, but say he DID become evil.

Malygos isn't so much evil as he is overreacting (fearing that Azeroth will be destroyed by its magical energies being used up too quickly, like people drinking all of the water out of a well or using up all the minerals in the ground by growing crops without letting it replenish itself.) In a way, Malygos is trying to SAVE Azeroth from premature death. And we all know from Final Fantasy VII (I know, old reference) that when the life energy/magic is used up in a planet and not allowed to replenish, the planet dies.

Ysera is forever asleep, as is her fate and domain, and is currently fighting off some evil in the Emerald Dream (with the assistance of Malfurion and, presumably, a carde of powerful Druids.) The Emerald Dream is sort of an Astral Plane (how people use the term in our own world), a world of combined dreamers' dreams. So Ysera isn't evil either, nor is she insane, she's in her realm fighting something that could potentially cause considerable problems for the world.

So then we have the queen of the Reds, who is totally sane at the moment, and we have our Lord of Time, whose intentions we don't really know yet. So that leaves 3 of 5 "good" (though one overreactingly insane) and 1 questionable (Nozdormu.) So it seems the warranty is still good, for the time being. And for all we know, Nozdormu's actions may be leading to some "good" end. The fatalist argument that he may be simply trying to fulfill the conditions of his own death make sense (or that, in trying to escape it, he causes it.)

...alternatively, for all we know, he could think that his time has come (perhaps that he's becoming corrupted and so trying to fulfill the conditions that he knows lead to his death to spare the world from his own corruption) and so be trying to prematurely cause his own demise. Although it would be interesting if he became a raid boss and, after defeating him, he is saved from death saying that it isn't his time and that he can still be "good", ect, and him being sent off to continue on without the fear of corruption with honor and integrity, ect. You know, stuff like that. ^_^

...something that would be made all the more amusing were it his future self who saves him (and if said future self then died from the exertion, his fate could, in a roundabout way, finally be closed as that would be his ultimate "death", which would also allow his "present" self to go on knowing that he is inherently honorable and noble and all that.) Geeze, time traveling...go fig!

My personal theory is that Nozdormu, having been told that "this is the way things have to be", reluctantly created the Infinite Flight - not simply to lead to his eventual death, but also for some other reason.

Perhaps his death is tied in with a greater event, for which it was necessary to train his successor and/or some champions to aid in a larger battle. He would surely know that the Infinite Flight would be doomed from the start, and thus made them a challenge, but not impossible to overcome. And so his champions, having overcome this lesser challenge, will then be able to save the world from the real threat later on.

....Or something.

Wait.. is it even slightly possible that the Infinite Dragonflight are actually the Bronze Dragonflight from the future? I don't know much about the lore so this just came to my mind..because it somehow looks as the Bronze Dragonflight could have been corrupted by the "Corrupted" Nozdormu, from what I've heard about him.

Craziest thing. My DK didnt get around to doing this quest until I was lvl 80. So, when I did it, I was wearing the same gear and my Future You, had less than 1/2 my hp and was doing 1/3 my damage. I got WEAKER somehow. but I was my future self, so did I get stronger too?

It makes sense for Nozdormu to be the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight.

As many other people have mentioned, Nozdormu's power gives him to the ability to not only travel through time but also to know every event up until and including his eventual death.

What the other people in the comments here have not mentioned (well somebody mentioned the books but not actually the line) is a quote at the end of The Well of Eternity book 3 that is very important to this discussion:

Nozdormu: "...It is my fate and my curssse to know such things and be unable myssself to prevent them. Know that I now asssk for forgiveness for the wrongs I will caussse you in the future, but I mussst be what I am destined to be... as Malygos is."

The wrongs I will cause you in the future. I must be what I am destined to be. Nozdormu boss next expansion?

I'm not sure if it's because I stealthed between waves or if it's just a general insult (i.e. suggesting I'm so useless it's like I'm not even there), but my future self said:

"What? Am I here alone. We both have a stake in this, you know!"

Also when I was fighting the boss and started getting beat up, then got screwed by it parrying my Kidney Shot, I thought I was dead for sure. Then suddenly I became stunned, my future self pulled complete threat and I survived at 900 hp. People said before that your future self can finish it off for you if you die, but it seemed like the game just prevented me from dying to begin with.

Let me get something straight...
If you die doing this quest, yourself in the future doesn't die, but if your future self dies you in the future doesn't die while doing the Mystery of the infinite, redux. But if your future self accidently gets yourself in the present of doing the quest you don't die in the future resulting in a Time-Paradox... uhhh i'm confused and YAGHHHH thats one mother of a headache...

Doing this quest as a mage my future self did indeed cast frostbolts at the mobs and I was able to complete the quest no problem.
Doing this quest again as a Druid in Cat Form was nigh on impossible as my future self didn't shift forms and only hit the mobs with my staff, dying after about 30 seconds in to the fight leaving me alone to try and kill the elite at the end. Two corpse runs later and I'm scratching my head about how other druids have managed this quest if all druid future selves refuse to shift forms.

The future me was bugged when I did they battle on my warrior. I was using Battleworn Thrash Blade, which has about a 1% chance of proccing an extra attack, but for future me it procced about 100 extra attacks over the time of the encounter at what seemed to be a 100% chance.

Just thought I'd throw in my thoughts about Nozdormu here:

I interpreted his appearance as having to do with him being (iirc) the father/progenitor of the Infinite Dragonflight, making him not so much the "leader" as the indirect originator of them, whether or not he actually has influence over their current and future actions (or would that be past actions?...)

Anyway, feel free to correct me, anything to do with all these time-traveling dragons lore-wise can get a little confusing for me...

Here's an idea.

The Infinite Dragonflight is an ALTERNATE future Bronze Dragonflight.

Think about it. They keep trying to muck about with the timeline, making changes. Ever played the card game Chrononauts? In that game, each player is a time traveler from some alternate future, trying to manipulate events so that their particular timeline comes true.

The Infinite Dragonflight will not exist in the future. They MIGHT exist in the future. That mere possibility is enough for them to travel back in time and try to bring about their own existance, and we see them because their interference predates each point where timelines diverge and we might succeed or fail as adventurers.

So every time you wipe a group in the Caverns of Time, the Infinite Dragonflight happens. But the Bronze Dragonflight of our timeline keeps sending you back to fix it, thus creating our better future.

Since Nozdormu leads the Bronze flight in our timeline, he would certainly lead the Infinite flight in that alternate future. Since he exists in all times simultaneously, the hourglass would simply reveal him as he is. Nozdormu. In past, present, and both future timelines.

EDIT: I had forgotten about this comment until it got rated up to 5, but yes, it would seem that Murozond's appearance and Nozdormu's dialogue in the End Time instance lend credence to this theory...

I've read the most of the comments here and i have been thinking alot of this. If it is acctualy so that the infinite is the bronze dragonflight corrupted. It means that something or someone made them being corrupted. What if it was sargeras soul that coruppted them and is making them to destroy everything that was against him. But still this cant be true. Because that means he would try to kill medivh in the attempt to open the dark portal. That means that nerz'hul would never come to Azeroth. Would never be the lich king. It also means that the plauge from lorderon would never happen. Maybe the infinite tries to protect the world from itself. Im not saying that they're good. Im just saying that they know what will happen in the future. It means they're trying to make things right. So these things will never happen in the future. Sacrifies has to be done to make the world what it is. Still. How did Sargeras come to Azeroth from the beginning when Aegwynn banished him? Maybe i got something now about the infinite. The infinite come's from the future. Then they must be from the bronze dragonflight. And the only one containing that power, is Nozdormu himself. Nozdormu may be coruppted. Or have they captured him and is draining his power to timetravel?

My final solution is that the infinite knows something that the world does not know yet. And they're trying to protect the world from whatever it is. Or can it be so easy that they're just want to destroy? Are they just something that want the world to be destroyed? These questions remain unanswered.

Hope i've made you get some ideas of what the infinite maybe be. Good luck figuiring it out.

Pretty easy quest. It -is- possible to fail the quest; if your hourglass' hp is depleted it breaks, in which case you'll have to go back to Chromie to get a new hourglass.

The mobs do seem to preferentially go after the hourglass (when you set down the hourglass, it begins to spawn "waves" of mobs, 2 or 3 per time, ending off with a single dragon). So basically make them aggro you instead, and you ought to be set.

This was Orange for me at 72 as an arcane mage and I was able to solo this one. I did however make sure to use mirror image as a means of making it through. Before the final NPC appeared though I did make sure to use a heavy frostweave bandage...Just In Case.

I did this with Dogmeati, Level 81 Warrior-Protection, I was solo! I argo all of the mobs that came out! While Mini-Me worked DPS, it all worked great! Level up!

Here's some practical advice rather than "interesting" discussions about time. Waves of mobs come to attack to the hourglass, between one ond three in a wave, and there's you and your future self protecting it. Your future self will agro one mob and it's up to you to pull the rest, so an AOE attack is a good start if you have one. Otherwise attack and tab.

If you pick them off one at a time or delay in getting threat, the mobs will whittle down the hourglass points and you are in danger of failing the quest.

id like to point out in end time after you beat the final boss noz says in time he WILL fall to insanity in time.. this means in time to come he goes insane and the infinate is the bronze dragonflight. this would make them attacking the bronze in an effort to stop themselves from existing. which means there truely insane.. lol.. that or sometime in the future his viewpoint just changes and things make sense a different way but at this time it seems insane. he would come back in time to battle himself after he stops everything else 'bad' from happening (like the culling of strat) and him being the final thing wrong with the flow of time and thus must be stopped.. and stopping everything else he did. the present noz knows this and thus end time.. or something like that.. ooohhh my brain

Can anyone help me! I completed this quest 3 times! I killed everything easily enough, even the elite at the end, the hourglass had at least 80% of it's health left at the end but the quest is still showing as failed in my quest log! Is there something I'm missing?

Well.. its all fine and good to know where to drop the hourglass but where do you go to enter?

I entered at 69,37 and there is another entrance S/E of there. Remember, the Hourglass item starts the event, nothing happens and there is no cave or anything once you get there. You have to use the item.

I soloed this as a level 75 mage. I died but didn't release as my "future me" was able to finish off the remaining mobs.

I was able to solo this easily with a 72 Feral Druid.

Looking at the map you'll see a pale circular area in the mountains just a little bit north west of Wintergarde Keep. Just to the left of it there's a gap in the mountains. At this gap is a snowy ramp, follow it up and it will lead you to Bronze Dragonshrine, a little sandy area. I think you can activate the hourglass anywhere in this general area.

I dropped my hourglass at 71,38.

This was easy to solo as a 73 prot war to include the elite mob at the end.

When you drop your hourglass, it summons a "future you" to assist in the fight. As long as you're keeping the mobs aggro'ed on you or future you, you should be good to go.

My future self said some funny things while we were fighting. This was the best:

"Listen. I'm not supposed to tell you this, but there's going to be this party that you're invited to. Whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK THE PUNCH!"

He also ended with: "Farewell. Keep us alive and get some better equipment!"

- Bronze Dragonshire /way 71 38. On your map this is the mountain range east of Galakrond's Rest which is above center.
- Drakes above you won't bother you. Not knowing what to expect, I tried to clear before starting the quest by aggroing (flying into them) but they did nothing.
- Did this as a 79 rogue. Just spammed hemo.
- Right click hourglass in your bag anywhere while you're on the ground.
- First wave was 2 mobs
- Second wave was 2
- Third wave was 3
- Fourth wave was 4
- Last was Infinite Timerenderer drake/dragon
- Drakes above did not bother me on my way out.

Last comment to me from my future self was "Keep us alive and get some better equipment!" lol

If you're doing this during Children's Week and you have an Oracle Orphan, you'll also have the quest The Bronze Dragonshire, so make sure you use the whistle to summon your orphan.

Chromie, at the top of Wyrmrest Temple, has asked you to travel to the Bronze Dragonshrine. Once inside, place the Hourglass of Eternity on the ground.

Protect the hourglass for as long as it lasts and then return to her with whatever information you gain.

A time storm at the Bronze Dragonshrine to the northeast is keeping immortals from entering.

The Infinite Dragonflight are in a fight inside with the defenders to wrest control of the dragonshrine. We must take this opportunity to gain information.

You are not immortal. You can cross into the dragonshrine and use the Hourglass of Eternity. Protect the hourglass for long enough and the leader of the Infinite Dragonflight should be revealed.

Be warned, the Infinite Dragonflight will try to stop you!
