Would suggest doing it a lot to get used to it, then trying at quiet times. I found that when doing the BEM Bomberman quest it was handy to have the timer up (use /timer in game) and start it then accept the quest so you can see how well you are doing. You can abandon the quest and restart it or just do it every day.

Seeing as there are a few comments below about the achievement associated with this quest I will add some suggestions as I have done it on 3 toons so far:

Big tip: Do it at low population times, you need all the blue dragonflight around, fighting for mobs will make you miss the target time

Even bigger tip: The friendly dragons fight the blues and you can claim a kill by doing minimal damage: use this to your advantage. As you are moving, be on the look out for dragons/drakes on low hp that are still available, quick fireball on the drake or immolate + fireball on the dragons = a kill credit without doing all the damage

Big tip: Fight the blues around the temple, you are likely to find low HP mobs to steal which you won't around the Azure where they spawn as new. In addition, the friendly ones may join in.

For general advice:

Stand at max range from the quest giver before accepting.
Start /timer
Click the play button then accept quest and go straight to dragon
Start the quest, use tips above, you need to leave around 5s from entering the temple to hand in - it won't score till you click complete
If your timer hits say 1:50 and you're not close, simply abandon the quest and restart.

1. Talk to Tariolstrasz and get a ride back to Lord Afrasastrasz on the second level.
2. Once there walk out to the "balcony" in the direction Lord Afrasastrasz is facing and there will be a dragon to the left and to the right.
3. Talk to either to ride it and you know control the dragon with 5 abilities.
4. Fly outside and defeat 3 Azure Dragons and 5 Azure Drakes
6. Fly to 55.65 (the purple lloking crater to the S/W and get into the beam coming out of the groundthat is the Azure Dragonshrine.
7. Fly to the base of the beam and use ability #5 to De-stabilize the Azure dragonshire.
8. Fly back to Lord Afrasastrasz -dismount by using the little icon on the bottom (to the right of your abilities)-and turn in.
9. Profit!

Disbanding the quest and try several times to get the achievement does not work, I just made it in 1:44 and did not get the achievement.

I killed all the dragons on the way to the Azure dragonshine (You can cast while moving, and its quite long range.)

flied to the close bottom to the Shine and spammed 5 until I saw the cooldown on it begin, flew up and killed the rest of the dragons.

I used the speed boost (Button 4) when I first jumped on the dragon, and when I flew back.

Any tips out there for doing this under 2 minutes? With the cooldown on the main attack I don't even see how it could be done. Each of the small dragons require 2 hits and the big ones require 4-5 each. How can this be done in the time allowed with the cooldown how it is?

Maybe I just suck. Any others having trouble?

Update: I think I have a plan that should work.

First of all, you gotta know how much damage your abilities do. The main attack does about 15k-25k per hit. Your Immolate (button 2) does about 25k over 9 seconds. So, the strategy I have been trying, though is yet to work, is to hit the smaller drakes with a main attack, then a Immolate, than leave them for dead and start looking for another target. This has worked well for me and I can almost always get the 5/5 lesser drakes. My problems come when trying to kill the 3/3 Azure Dragons. I can usually get one or two, but haven't been able to zap all three in time. I think this part may require some luck such as running across some Azure Dragons that are already in fights with NPC dragons and getting a snipe shot in for credit on the kill.

I find it a pain once you get to the pit that the casters have a stupid range but having to click three times at various heights just to get that part done. I've done this 6 times same results so I guess this is one acheivement I probably won't get

If you're having problems with destabilizing the Azure Dragonshrine it might help to know that it's channeled. Just press the button once and stand still untill you get credit once you see the CD on the ability starts. You have to channel for 5 seconds. Took me a while to figure out as there's so much swirling pink stuff around there.

If you complete this quest, it will unlock the daily, allowing you to do it every day and receive a reward. I highly recommend doing this whenever possible as the Wyrmrest reputation will build up and become important.

Any idea why most of the times I go to hand in the quest, there is like some big fat and smelly Wyrmrest Protector spawning right on top of the quest giver? Kinda puts me off, wasting a valuable second or two as I try to click as fast as I can!

This quest was easily done in under 2 minutes my first attempt. I went out from the temple directly south from the western dragon-mounts, used my speed boost, and immediately attacked one of the lesser drakes, which attracted more. By the time I was heading for the Dragonshine I was 5/5 for the lesser drakes, and 1/3 greater. I landed at the shrine, hit five, and as soon as it started cooling down took off again. Activated my Speed boost again, killed two greater dragons on my way back, and landed with 10 seconds to spare.

I wouldn't try and do this in any exact order, but you have to be conscious about not straying from the fastest path between the quest turn in and the shrine. Don't forget you cast while moving!

Surprised no ones mentioned it, if you dont want to get the achievment but want to farm exp. The foci casters on the blue floating disks still grant exp so if you are bored and want exp kill them

If you pick it up, lift off and find a big one on low HP it helps alot. I completed it by being lucky to find one in the start :) after that just sprint to the beam you have to destroy, and hope you can chainkill fast. Keep sprint on cd.

How do you unlock this quest? I discovered it with an alt and did it while leveling/questing in Dragonblight, but when I went back to the Wyrmrest temple with my main, Lord Afraastrasz does not have the quest for me. I've got honored rep with Dragonblight and have finished nearly all of the non dailies in Dragonblight with this toon, so not sure how to unlock this daily.

Tips
Make sure you know what it will take to kill both kinds of dragons.
Using the speed boost at the start is recommended.
You can cast your spells while moving.
Always be looking for your next kill target and try not to stop moving.
You can use the in game timer by checking the track check box in the achievement menu.
Drakes(the small ones): you can fireball then immolate and move on.
Dragons(big ones): use immolate and fireball until they die, like posted above 4 to 5 before they die.
Another thing I did that helped was to just keep moving when you do the "Destabilize the Azure Dragonshrine". Other then that it's a lot of luck.

I thought I'd mention that if something is already being attacked by another NPC, you will still get the kill if you attack it, too.

This is good for some easy, quick kills. :3

What I find helps is, after engaging an Azure Dragon, almost immediately casting Renew. That way, should an add or adds appear, I'm almost at 100% health, and the Renew cooldown is up again.

I can stay in battle almost indefinitely, and it sure beats realizing I have 40% health with three adds, and needing to run to heal.

Then again, I'll never get the achievement because I keep fighting long after I've actually completed the quest. I just love this quest. :-)

The video shows something that doesn't seem to be possible, for me at least. If I cast the destabilization spell as soon as I reach the range, only the cooldown triggers, but spell isn't cast. It works only after staying in that area for a few seconds (say, 2 to 3), similar to being able to ride briefly through non-riding areas.

I guess this server simply sucks.

Pretty straightforward quest. It still registers as a Daily the first time you do it.

After talking to Lord Afrasastraz, turn around and head outside. just talk to a dragon and you can hop on it and fly up. All the dragons you need are flying around the top of the tower.

Be sure to cast Renew (#3) once your dragon is down on health. Your health is unaffected by the attacks.

The Azure Dragonshire will be destabilized after you fly down to the bottom of the purple column of magic in the middle of it. Cast #5 to destabilize it.

If the dragon you're riding gets killed, go back to Lord A. and then walk out and hop on another one. You won't lose your progress.

A useful piece of information for people who are doing this quest while still leveling:
While on the drake, you can kill 12 Focus Wizards, 4 on each of the 3 platforms in the Azure Dragonshire. Each one grants 800-1k exp (depending on your level) and takes about 2 seconds to kill (one attack each). It's not much, but an extra/easy 10k-12k exp on a quest you're doing every day is worth it. As far as I can tell, other Focus wizards in the Dragonshire can not actually be attacked while on the drake. For some reason, the ones on the platforms can.

No one's yet mentioned the difficulty I'm having, but I hope that someone else has encountered this and has a solution or an idea for a solution. I'm currently level 78, have done this quest as a daily say maybe 6 or 7 times, handed it in the last time I did it so it's not still sitting in my quest log as completed. Last time I did it was a couple months ago, as I declined to keep my account current for a couple months. When I got back on today, I started doing dailies and when I got to this one, it simply wasn't being offered by Lord Sasifras (or w/e his name is). I double checked to make sure it wasn't in my log still somehow, it's not. I'm not in a raid, not even in a group so that's not it. I intially flew up to the middle of the tower to talk to him on my own flying mount, and then tried going up on the provided drake and that didn't help either. I tried just mounting a drake, and he says if you're interested in defending the temple talk to the lord. I have not done too many dailies today (done 6/25 so far today); nor have I done this one for a couple months, let alone today already. I can't find anything on wowhead about this daily only available until a certain reputation with the Wyrmrest Accord, but I know that's entirely possible and my most likely guess as to why it's simply not offered to me anymore. I'm 45 points into honored, meaning that this quest might become unavailable once one hits honored with the Wyrmrest Accord? It's all I can think of for blocking me out. Can anyone prove or disprove this? And if anyone can, since it isn't mentioned in these comments yet and no where else on WoWhead that I can find, it would be very valuable information for everyone. I've spent nearly 30 minutes scouring WoW head and rebooting and checking quests etc etc and the honor thing is all I came up with as a possibility. Thanks in advance for everyone's help! I'm so confused!

Something I found interesting . . . your gear will take damage from the Dragons' attacks.

I love this quest, and will often keep killing the quest mobs for a while. It's not uncommon for my Paladin to have a 3-4 gold repair bill, even if he's just repaired beforehand. (I don't care, as it's my choice to remain in battle for longer than necessary; I just found it interesting.)

i physicaly can not do it. my computer can only handle having max view distance turned up and invironment detail (determins how far you can see terrain). and if im not in northrend, i can have spell detail up.

i am unable to fly into the nexus thingy, drop the thing and fly out. i must stay for a bit. with how my computer works, i have spent the time to figure out how much time it would take for me to do this the quickest. and i came up with just a bit over 2 min. and thats with all my addons turned off, and nothing running in the background on my computer. i got lucky one try and killed a big dragon right off as i was leaving the tower.. and then i was screwed when i got to the point where you have to drop that bomb or what ever. i didnt stop soon enough before i clicked the ability and i was screwed. if you have latency issues, or frame rate problems, this achievement will be next to impossible to get on your own. someone said have somebody that isnt grouped with you help you. im not sure about that. when i was doing this quest, someone was fighting a couple of dragons, i targeted one, it was gray to me, with his dot. i started attacking to help him out (i had already lost the time run) and right before it died, it switched over to me, and the name plate turned red and i got credit for killing it.

this is my opinion on what im about to say

if you dont have a good computer that has no trouble running WotLK, i wouldnt bother trying for the achievement.

I had problem activating the shrine - the trick is to hit the number 5 button (if i remember correctly) just below the floating spine. It'll take a few seconds for it to take effect.

This achievement is idd irritating, but doable. It took me about 10 tries before i got the achievement. Did the quest in 1 minute 40 seconds. Far quicker than the last couple of times.

Theres more dragons near the dragonshrine which u have to destabilize, i flew up high in the air and attacked one single small drake. And for some reason the drakes just kept comming, small and big. I didnt even need to fly towards them to attack them. My way of attacking;

(cant remember the ability names, so just just gonna call them 1# and 2# etc.)

1# --> 2# For small drakes, just leave them after you have used 2#.
1# --> 2# --> 1# For big drakes, sometimes an extra 1# is needed for it to go down.
Just be careful you dont get swamped by too many drakes, because your renew wont be able to heal it.

Keep mashing Destablize but nothing happens? Well you have to fly down to the base of the purple beam, to where it connects with the earth and go into the black pit beyond, and just keep mashing the button!

If you're questing in the area, but don't have cold weather flying the drake can serve as a sort-of "poor man's" flying mount, one way of course. Turn in quests etc, hop back on a drake, fly as close as you can to where'd you like, and then drop out. Just don't turn in the quest until you're sure you won't need it before the dailies reset.

I found this quest and it's achievement super easy.

First, track the achievement and a timer will pop up letting you know how much time you have left. Very helpful.

Second, make two macros for this: /target Azure Drake and /target Azure Dragon. Spam those and you won't have to waste time searching for what you need.

Also, it really does help to find drakes that are already in combat or who just killed a guardian. You get credit for their kills even if you didn't fight them one on one. My method was to locate an Azure dragon in combat, throw a few flames at it, dot it, and then find the next one. Because I had done damage to it, I got credit for it's death.
Then hurry up and fly to that big swirly light, fly to the ground, hit your disrupt button, and wait for the indicator that you completed it. If you move, you lose it. So hit your renew and stand still. The second you get it, dismount. That way you break combat with any drakes following you and you can hurry up and fly back to the quest turn in.

I finished this achievement on the first try with 14 seconds to spare.

Ok, so for those who, like me, faction changed and cannot get this quest again in order to finish this achievement, this is actually due to the chains in Dragonblight reset on a faction change, so you need to redo some of the quest, about 16 of them to be exact.

You will want to start by heading out to Agmar's Hammer and pick up the quest Rifle the Bodies from Image of Archmage Aethas Sunreaver.
After you finish that quest, pick up the follow up, Prevent the Accord. Once you kill Goramosh he will now drop Goramosh's Strange Device which will start your 15 quest chain until you are able to get Rapid Defense up, took me about 15 minutes. Have fun!

Unlike when WotLK first came out, almost no one is doing this quest anymore so there's very little competition for the dragons/ drakes to worry about. Now, you can sit where you first pick up your dragon and kill anything that comes by. When your dragon's health gets low, just dismount and mount a new one (since you're right next to it). You can just button mash 1 and 2 if you like.

When you've killed 3/3 Azure Dragons and 5/5 Azure Drakes, fly towards the Azure Dragonshrine. As you approach, gain altitude until you're WAY above the circling dragons/ drakes. When you line yourself up with the beam of light coming out of the ground, do a straight-down dive (doing this reduces the amount of dragons/ drakes on you as you're trying to destabilize the shrine). When you get to the bottom, use the destabilizing button, then haul it out of there quick (use the burst of speed button).

In order to get to this daily you have to do the following:

Short version:
In order to unlock this daily quest you must begin with Goramosh's Strange Device (Alliance/Horde), which drops during Prevent the Accord (Alliance/Horde).

Alliance details:
The Alliance pre-requisite quest chain. Specifically you must be on Prevent the Accord. Only then will you be able to receive Goramosh's Strange Device (Alliance). That offers A Strange Device which begins the actual chain leading up to Defending Wyrmrest Temple.

guys don't do like i did and forget to look up the new info i been playin for about 2.5 years and finally got around to doing this achievement and set my stop clock to 2 minutes and abandoned the quest like 200 times at 2:07 - 2:15 etc. till i got it in under 2 minutes then to look at the achievement to see i could have had it last week there was a time this achievement had to be done in under 2 minutes.

Is the 'bottom of the shrine' at the blinding light shaft bottom?

Do you have to be on one of their dragons, or can you hit this 'button' on a normal flying mount?

Getting the achievement for this is a royal pain in the rear.

If there are lots of people on the quest, you will be scouring the area for kills.
If there are not enough people on the quest, you will find yourself out-numbered and out-gunned and find yourself scrambling for your flight speed key and having to run away (this eats up time).

Ugh.

That, or you run out of the *correct* mobs... say you kill your 5 drakes, and there's no dragons around... or you kill the 3 dragons and there's no drakes around and you waste too much time hunting down the correct mobs...

What a pain.

If you fail and fall off, talk to the Bloodelf on the ground for another ride up to the General's level. You don't have to talk to the general again, just to one of the quest dragons on that level to get another ride into the air.

I'm trying this for the first time. After a little while I got the hang of killing dragons with my quest dragonmount skills, that's no problem. My problem is I'm having a really hard time targeting the Dragonshrine in order to use my Destabalising skill on it.

Whipperbilly had it right, jump on a defender dragon, kill the 3 Azure dragons and the 5 Azure Drakes at the temple, then ride down to the shrine at 55.66 Go to the beam of light rising up, I went to the base of it and activated it using the button on the riding panel. When your fighting dragons just remember to heal the dragon before you get thrown off. Once I just went and landed on the temple again and got a fresh dragon.

Normally, I run this daily and get 250 Rep points with Wyrmrest Accord. I've been doing it fast, apparently there is some Acheivement awarded for getting it done fast. I just got it done really fast, and I got 325 rep. I don't know how fast I did it, and I didn't get awarded an acheivement. But I did get 150% of normal rep points, and it's likely that it was because of how fast I went. I did die once, but I was RIGHT there, remounted, and continued on with a fresh mount, if that's any clue for people. And my last kill was right above the Destabilize point, just before destabilizing then hitting the turbo switch to get back. I'm lvl 80, and it's gonna take forever to get Exalted with Wyrmrest with only 1 ? daily, but this is a fun quest, like killing the Gargoyles. I killed 22 once, but that's another story.

At the time of this post, this daily keeps bugging out on me, in a very strange manner. For the last 3 days that i've done this quest, the game will suddenly disconnect. When i reload, i am no longer on my mount and fall to the ground (pally so i can bubble). However, the game is now in a strange state where a lot of the Wyrmrest NPC's are no longer present, such as the NPC that transports you to the different levels of the Temple, or the repair vendor inside. Guards are still present, as are other players.

So then I have to manually log and reload, and once again i'm in the air falling. Bubble is on cooldown so I die, and this time all the NPC's are present and I can complete the daily. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this? I suspect an addon might be causing it but need to investigate it a bit more.

I had trouble completing the Destabalize portion last night, Friday 10 Feb 2023. I could not fly all the way to the ground.

The Cords for Destabilize: 55.5, 66 are correct.

I tried the /reload ui command and it did not work; then I dismounted and picked up the same Drake/Dragon once and tried again and it did not work, i.e. I could not fly to the ground. Then I tried picking up a different dragon and it would let me fly to the ground and I could cast number 6 - Destabalize and it worked. If anyone is having issues like I was try this.

Been doing this on various toons for rep.

1 - Start a fight with Immolate (the DOT). Immolate does a lot of damage, but slowly.
1a - Immolate has a long CD, so starting with it means that by the time you get to your next attack it will have cooled down.
2 - After hitting them with Immolate spam Flame Breath until the target goes down
3 - They will attack you instantly, so when health gets to 50%, hit the self-heal.

... lather, rinse, repeat.

Note that starting with Immolate makes them attack you sooner, but the DOT does a boatload more damage. So you kill faster with Immolate to start, but you need to heal at least once.

Sometimes you will find a dragon with health below 100% ... that's good ... you still get credit. It's not worth looking around for them, but it is worth attacking them if you do notice them.

Outside on the east and west terraces are wyrmrest defenders. Speak with one to ride it into battle.
