If you wait by the entrance to the mine in the back of the fort, she'll pat around. You don't have to be close to her to use the charm. Be quick, she moves fast.

I stood at 60.02 14.19 and look over the fort you can see her making her pass. Easy quest.

A little spammable macro that makes an easy quest even easier:

/tar steel
/use Feathered Charm

Stand right in front of the Wildervar Mine where your minimap says you're in Fort Wildervar. Hit the macro every second or two--it should take about half a minute to pick Steelfeather up and voila! You're done.

Took me 20 mins to try do this quest whitout the macro, then i got bored and decide to use the easy way, whit the macro it took me 30 sec.

i cant complete this quest, she gets to the nest and fly's back above town but it doesn't say i learned her secret..

wow that really does work... Do exactly what Ansawa said.... i stood over the mountain next to the intrance of the mine and overview of the fort.
Press
/tar steel
then
/use feather charmed

and click the item you were given, then you turn into some bird and fly around for like 1 min
DONE

Not a very brilliant pair of hunters, those chaps, since Steelfeather died just fine.
Climb as high as you can on the little "peak" at 63.6 14.9 and she'll be well in range of spells and missiles.

Now to figure out a way to the nest...

I looked up right after I got the quest, and lucky me, there she was... the odd thing though, after the channel'ing was done and she'd flown back, she attacked me.

A bit weird to see the two npc's talk about how they should leave the poor mother be, when she's lying dead in front of them.

I used the macro as well, however, I didn't even have to go to the mine that people have mentioned. I literally stood in the middle of the Fort, and hit the macro when I saw her shadow on the ground (as she was flying over). That worked fine for me.

I actually did this without the macros i just watched up and there i saw steelfather flying and i targeted and got the quest completed , easy as a cake:P

You can stand right next to the guy who gives it to you and use the macro posted further up the thread to get this done.

When I first got on the bird after right-clicking on Steelfeather then clicking on the little charm icon, I didn't know if I was supposed to fly after the thing or just let the bird do all the work. Sure enough you just sit there on the bird and the quest completes itself.

This is a bird just over your head 45/72 use the feather charm on the bird flying above you. She will fly you to her nest and than back down to the ground ( her vision) that is it easy.

59,14 I stood outside the cave just behind Fort Wildevar's Inn. Spotted him high above. Even although he was quite high I was able to use the Feathered Charm easily.

Not sure how they can tell that Steelfeather is a girl just because there are babies in a nest. The male birds are often the ones that sit on the eggs and bring food back to the nest.

We see one brave hippogryph circling over the fort, then swooping down and taking prey. Jethan over there has taken a couple of shots at the creature, but his arrows bounced right off!

We've taken to calling this remarkable creature Steelfeather, but we can't see why he prefers the area around Fort Wildervar. Most hippogryphs are wary of people.

Researcher Aderan has helped us fashion a charm from one of the creature's feathers. He claims it will allow the user to see through Steelfeather's eyes.
