I can honestly say I have committed a genocide among the Noxious Whelp community. Much weaker men would avoid putting this down in words, too afraid to see a verbal testament to their depravity before them: I have killed thousands. With a grimace did I accept the non-combat pet they gifted me. It hardly seems worth it now. I will treasure it, as well as loathe it, as it reminds me of the time spent exterminating a much less threatening villain than I.

I like how the Tiny Emerald Whelpling isn't considered "Noteworthy", yet it's been the object of virtually every comment on this page.

Also, this is the only enemy in-game that you can skin a Green Whelp Scale from.

In Cataclysm!

Dark Whelpling Now drops from in Wetlands. And from Scalding Whelp in Badlands.
However Tiny Crimson Whelpling can also drop from every singel mob in Wetlands.
So now when you farm , you have a chance to get both.

Tiny Emerald Whelpling Now drops from in Feralas.
Azure Whelpling Now drops from all mobs in Winterspring.

I've looted enough Tiny Fang and Dragon Femur, and skinned enough Green Whelp Scale that you would think I could construct my own Tiny Emerald Whelpling by now.

I can Confirm, that these do Indeed drop Sprite Darter Egg I have spent aprox: 1 hr 30 mins clearing all the whelps in the area doing circular runs back and forth and got the this egg on my 6th run around the lake as a lvl 39 Mage. At first I got alittle carried away and thought this to be the Whelp, until I read the item... but ah well, keep on I must! atleast I have some cute company whilst I mindlessly grind. :) Happy looting everybody!

So my decision to begin the nearly fruitless endeavor has lead me to a somewhat useful discovery.
This little annoying whelp has produced over 10 stacks of medium and heavy leather with skinning which fetched a decent price in the AH and considering this little sucker sells for nearly 110K on Eonar it helps ease the pain quite a bit.

I almost had a heartattack. 20th kill in I got the pet. 20 kills later, I got the beacon. Going to bed early now to make sure I'm not dreaming this up!

Noxious Whelps also drop the OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon, if you still need the quests to get An OOX of Your Own (ie a Mechanical Chicken)

Between that, the Tiny Emerald Whelpling, and the Sprite Darter Egg, should make a decent pet-farming spot

After a couple sweeps of the spawning area I worked out a very smooth system of rotating around the little island (they spawn all around the outside of it) with no down time, killing groups right after they spawn. I went clock-wise around the island, taking out the little clumps of Draghetto Veneficos in a snake like pattern (http://cdn1.droidmill.com/media/market-media/com.marsapp.android.snake_0.png), not re-stepping anywhere. I made sure to set my pet to passive, so that I wasn't kept from looting any of them. I got a Draghetto di Smeraldo in < an hour it seemed, maybe a bit more, but after that I farmed for a couple hours and couldn't get a second. So I kept the little devil. <3 This was also a great source of Heavy & Medium Leather & Hide, as well as Scaglie di Draghetto Verdes (needed forFormula: Incanta Guanti - Scuoiatura) - but these stack at 5. I even got a rare recipe / 2 to throw on the AH. Overall, I highly recommend farming this, because it is a beautiful pet and could fetch close to, if not exceeding 10,000 G on the AH. You'll get a feel of how to efficiently farm them and eventually one will drop. Only all the more if you're a Leather Worker. Hope I was some help, feel free to add to this. ;D

OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon has dropped 5 times, still no Tiny Emerald Whelpling :'(

If you're going to farm these guys, if you can, do it on a Hunter who is also a skinner. With MoP on the horizon, leatherworkers will be busy making and selling leather items for Monks. Since you're going to be killing a lot of these little guys, make the most of it. Use your hunter's Track Dragonkin to move efficiently and Aspect of the Cheetah (you're going to one-shot them so no danger of being stunned) to move quickly. These whelps give you Heavy and Medium leather, hides, and also Green Whelp Scale (which is used in Enchanting for the +5 skinning to gloves - aren't you mad when you can't skin General Umbriss in Grim Batol!)

But no sprite. guess RNG god's love me with the drake but not the sprite.
this really keeps me farming though.

I am farming these mobs for the sprite darter egg, but have not been very lucky with it! total game time is 5 days, 2 hours, and 36 minutes farming the mobs.
Good luck and happy farming, the whelps WILL drop, just sometimes they are spaced out on how they drop, sometimes you can get 2 in 300 kills or one in 2000 kills.
