1. do you really need 24 (read twentyfour!) herbs for one single flask?

:) the flask does seem a lot but remember while raiding most raid guilds will prob use cauldrons

*edit* it is the best flask for a resto druid atm, bigger mana pool is stronger than spirit :)

EDIT: This post is outdated, as is the flask. Int no longer contributes to the size of your mana pool, but it did at the time that I wrote this.

Intellect is better than Spirit for healers, point for point. If the Spirit flask gave more Spirit than the Intellect flask gave Intellect, these people arguing that healers should pick up the Spirit flask might have an argument, but as of this time they give the same number of stats. What does Intellect give a healer? Let's review:

A bigger mana pool. Any talents or skills that give back mana as a percentage of your mana pool will give back more mana with this. This includes Replenishment, Innervate, Revitalize, etc. Also, you start the fight with more mana which is always nice.
More regen. Mana regeneration is a function of both Spirit and Intellect, meaning, that a point of Intellect will give you some pure regen. Spirit gives more regen point for point than Intellect, but regen is the only thing that Spirit provides.
Bigger Heals. Intellect increases the size of our heals, which means that our heals become more mana efficient (Our HPM (Heals per Mana) increases with each point of int). This was not a big deal in WotLK, due to the fact that overhealing was so rampant. It didn't matter how big our heals were, just that they were getting casted, so it's easy for WotLK healers to forget that Intellect will help you save mana.
Critical Heals. Intellect still increases Spell Critical rating. This means that some of our heals are even better with more Int (further increasing HPM). I'm listing this separately due to the fact that many classes have talents that proc off of critical heals (Shaman's Improved Water Shield, Druid's Living Seed), meaning that critical heals are much more than just bigger heals.

This is by design by Blizzard. They have stated in many blue posts all over the place that Primary stats (like Intellect) will generally be more valuable than Secondary stats (like Spirit). Of course, for some fights you might find a Spirit flask to be more suitable, but I'm saying generally the Intellect flask will be much better for healers.

Cauldrons are a long way off for most guilds. 10,000 flask must be made as a guild to unlock them. And even more after to unlock the bigger cauldrons.

This is as of patch 4.0.6 the best flask to use for caster throughput increase. Generally, this will be highly sought after by caster-DPS classes such as Mages and Warlocks, but will most likely be used by every single caster class in situations where additional throughput is needed.

The materials required to craft this are as follows:

The materials are easily farmed if you are a high level herbalist, but for non herbalists this flask (as well as the others) will be quite pricey for quite a while. They recently (as of patch 4.0.6) lowered the materials from 10 of each to 8 of each, but the price is still anywhere from 100g to 160g depending on your server's economy and population. For raiders with neither herbalism or alchemy, expect to shell out quite a bit of gold, especially if you are a full time raider.

A good idea for those raiders who don't use these professions: buy in bulk. Find a flask-spec'd alchemist that farms his/her own herbs and ask them to give you a bulk discount. Most people will be happy to oblige as you are buying all their materials from them rapidly when it may take a day or two to sell them all without flooding the markets.

In short, be smart with your gold. :)

After farming enough herbs for multiple stacks of all the different flasks, both to get the Cauldron recipe for my guild and to give them a leg-up on the mats for said Cauldron... I can safely say that in my personal experience, this particular flask takes the two types of herbs that are THE biggest pain in the butt to farm.

Between this and the fact that Deepsea Sagefish remain (as of this writing) frustratingly pool-less... I'm gonna go ahead and say that Blizzard hates casters. Well, either that, or else they just think casters are SO good that they don't really need buff foods and flasks. Go figure.

You also have a chance of receiving this item in a Satchel of Exotic Mysteries. You can get the Satchel by que'ing for a Cata Heroic Dungeon by yourself only when the Dungeon Finder shows that you can get the Satchel.
