If you can cook, then you just have to eat what you cook. but if its like the drink achievement then you can just eat 50 diffant food from drops and mage food and vendor food.

Got this achievement today on the PTR, it's pretty easy, here is what I found.

Mage bread and all vendor food count towards the achievement.
Water does not count.

So to complete it I just made the different mage breads and bought all the food from the following:

Inn keeper in stormwind
Cheese vendor in Stormwind
meat vendor in the Lower City
fish vendor in the Lower City
bread vendor in the Lower City.

You should be able to buy the food from any number of vendors, this is just a list of where I bought mine.

remember, pre tbc fish can be eaten cooked and uncooked giving 2 points for this achievement

using the various vendor foods goes a long long way in this achievement

theres a load of Dark iron dwarf foods at the vender in BRD, easy to get if you have the direbrew remote, theres about 3 foods and 3 drinks IIRC. Also there is some weird drinks in the Inn at Southshore inside CoT Durnholde if your high enough.

I managed to do all the food and drink achievement without having to cook anything at all, so I was happy.

and dont forget all the low level fruit/cheese/meat shops in the cities (and the mushroom vender in UC if your Horde). Although if u start with the highest level food first u will have to cancel the food buff or it says " a higher spell is already active" and wont let you eat.

.... also as a final note, theres a coffee vender wandering lower city :)

For horde players :

Head to Thunderbluff ;
Activate the food & drink tracking ;

Search all over thunderbluff to see yellow dots on the map, then you'll find a :
Bread vendor
Cheese vendor (inkeeper)
Fruit Vendor

Then head to Orgrimmar and search for :
Meat vendor
Mushrooms vendor

If you don't get enough, head to shattrath and you'll find a Fish vendor.

The Food & Drink vendors in each faction's bases in Alterac Valley also give a great assortment of food. I got about 10 points for the achievement just thorough that vendor alone.

I enjoyed doing this one. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I kept on going far beyond 50!
At first I was thinking and hoping that there would be a next achievement at 100, but there wasn't. However I do appreciate that the counter keeps going past 50 (other achievements don't :s).
Regardless of this I still find sort of a collectors thrill in having eaten as many dishes as I can :) I'm currently at a shy 103 eaten dishes and I aim to get as many possible. I thank a lot of the above posters for information about how to got a hold of different dishes from different places, and I would love to hear more.

I was thinking about the battleground field rations, the ones for each different bracket of wsg or ab. I hope they give 1 point each when eaten inside their respective bg's. I'll report back when I've tried it out :)

It's true; ANY Food item in the game will count towards this, whether it's Mage food, Cooking recipes, or Vendor/drop food.
I don't think that items like the stat-raising Hallow's End candy count, though, probably because you don't actually sit down and eat them.

I haven't see this posted previously, but each rank of conjure food (r1, r2, r3, etc.) counts as towards this achievement.

With 8 ranks of conjure-able food, this makes achievement extremely easy to get.

Each rank of conjure water works with the "Its's Happy Hour Somewhere" achievement as well.

Most fishes can be eaten both raw and cooked. And both count for this achievement.

Another tip, do this achievement and It's Happy Hour Somewhere one when the Darkmoon Faire is on.

Sylannia sells 4 unique types of drink (6 total) and Stamp Thunderhorn offers 8 foods.

It stopped counting at 179 for me. I don't know if it was due to some game patch/update or it is at that specific number it stops. :(

EDIT: Ok, it hasn't stopped counting for me. The reason I thought it did was because I ate https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=44722 which I am 100% sure I have never encountered before, since it is only obtainable from the egg you get from when you're revered with the oracles.
However today I made some Well Fed food and ate them, and it did indeed go up. Odd. But I'm happy :)

Not a big thing, but as nobody's mentioned it I will.

You do not have to wait for the entire "eating time" to get credit for this. So if it takes 30 sec to eat something, you don't have to sit for the full 30 sec. As soon as your character sits down and starts eating you get credit and you can get back up.

A minor time saver, but handy if food drops or you get it as a quest reward, just sit for a second to eat and then back into whatever you were doing.

This has been fixed in 3.1.0 so that only Azeroth foods count towards the achievement.

I might be a freak but ever since I earned this, I have continued to search out and collect any unique foods I can get my hands on. Currently I am sitting at 225 or 275.

I'm curious if anyone knows of a list of foods and where they are located, it would be most helpful.

This achievements counts beyond 50, at the moment I have 53/50. I'm planning to see how high I can get it.

It is either a bug or the achievement will get expanded (maybe with more points) or blizzard just made it so you can track how many dishes you have eaten.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the Pilgrim's Bounty dishes don't seem to count towards this achievement. Maybe because the holiday was only recently added?

So if you're curious exactly which foods count towards this achievement, or you feel like being a completionist and getting ALL of them, copy and paste this into your wow chat and you can see them all.

1. Get this addon: Overachiever.
2. If you haven't already, go learn fishing and follow some guide to level it up. (Here's one)
3. Eat every eatable fish that you catch. Overachiever will add "Consume" in the foods tooltip if it counts as critiera for this achievement.

The counter on this stops at 240/50.

I have prob eaten as many as 280/50(new Cata food), but it doesnt count higher than 240/50-190 overkill! :)

Only level 1-70 foods work, I believe. But if you already ate some foods from Cooking, you can probably farm the rest in Orgrimmar. Try seeing Shan'ti, Barkeep Morag, Kor'jus and for an assortment of meat, cheese, fungus, fruit and bread. This will get you 45/50, since high-level foods like Scarlet Polypore won't count toward the achievement.

I just did the impossible and completed Tastes Like Chicken as a F2P account lvl20 horde along with It's Happy Hour Somewhere (No Outland, No Northrend, No Cataclysm, No Events! Only good old azeroth and only 0-20 Consumbles!)

Note that you need Cooking and Fishing atleast 150 skill / Recipe: Westfall Stew OR Recipe: Cooked Crab Claw

I am surprised nobody has mentioned this, but this achievement could be a reference to Stargate (the original) movie where Dr.Jackson says "Tastes like chicken, it's like chicken huh it's good. Tastes pluck-pluck-pluck-pluck-pluck".
