This is a great spell for wen u are being hunted down by mobs and are near death or u can't be bothered fighting, plant a Frost Trap so slow them down, distance urself and then activate aspect of the cheetah and high ho silver away! ur home free ;)

As of 12/13/07 it is still bugged. The trap will remain in effect after the hunter dies. You will also still have the slow effect even if you leave the area of effect.

This happened to me after using an invisibility potion (not a lesser one, mind you) in AV. I can understand if I got Flared or stepped on (or walked into the radius of) some other trap that does damage, or if I stayed invisible but got slowed; that's one thing. But break the invisibility too? That's really retarded in my opinion (or really useful, depending on which end of it you're on). Mages using invisibility in PvP should probably beware of this too. Or maybe they can even attest to this.

So, I was wondering about the range of this trap and then I mean the range were you actualy break the trap so that you get slowed. I was in an arena game recently and I was walking well, I guess about 5 yards away or lets say 4 wow characters from it and I broke it. (I am a rogue so I can see the traps) This is very lame, what's the point of seeing traps when there is no way to avoid them, and for god sake nerf hunters or take away Blade's edge arena, it's the lamest arena in game tbh.

ive actually seen some really skilled hunters kiting meele classes so good that they never leave the ice-slick.
just a few intercepts from warriors but thats aight, just wing-clip that sucka^^

Lay this down, multi-shot ( assuming you're survival with serpent spread ) and you've got yourself some quickly dying mobs.

It's debatable, but I prefer Ice Trap over Freezing Trap in the majority of my PvP situations. Of course I'm talking about Ice Trap with the Entrapment talent. Undoubtedly, for full on CC on healers or ranged dps, Freezing Trap is way better. But Entrapment debuff of 4 seconds of immobilization is far more useful on Melee types (except Paladins).

This trap has ongoing effects whereas Freezing Trap doesn't. Freezing trap disables upon damage, when Entrapment doesn't (free hits). Ice Trap is an AoE Improved Hamstring with Entrapment, Freezing Trap is a single target 8 sec full CC. Now, this one is debatable: Most people (I included) trinket out of Freezing Trap, where for Entrapment, most people don't trinket out of it (for various reasons: no visual effect, no sound effect, and most people don't talent into Entrapment). There are other points of differences, and playstyles.
I just think that because the majority use Freezing Trap that the tenderfoot should do the same. Educate yourself before doing anything. Even in WoW, knowing is everything.

Which is the ultimate PvP trap?

If your on defense in 20-29 or higher Warsong Gulch, this is a great trap. I mostly play defense with my NE hunter, seing as most people just run out the middle and grab HK's.

I start by placing my pet in the little side-house room located to the right of the flag. Then, I place the AOE Frost Trap NOT ON the flag, but farther away from the flag, on the common flag runner path to the flag so the AOE Frost Effect is more effective.

After placing your trap, if you a NE, go into the other corner and stealth, so then you have everything set-up. When 1 or more flag runners come in the room and run for the flag, simply wait until they hit the frost trap, the whole flag area will be coated in frost and slows multiple enemies running near it. Mark him and shoot your concussion, and send your pet in to attack.

I find this tactic very useful and effective in controlling the enemy flag runners. Also, The more hunters, the better, Have hunters place fire traps // or other frost traps in the room for an even greater Effect. Mostly its only me and a rogue on defense.

This trap is not very good for PvE, Unless theres a mob or something you want to slow down, but its really not that good.

Overall, this is a PvP trap, its great, I use it all the time.

Yes but the freezing trap has much more of a range and it will affect the enemy by suprise

I'd say the soul use of this trap is to combine it with entrapment (from the survival tree), thus getting very effective against non-named creeps (not often they resist, but there are some who are immune).

I'm a 60 hunter, thanks to Frost Trap + Entrapment (I recommend trap efficiency and mastery as well)I can solo BRD arena. Hard, as I'm nearly 100% blue-geared, but doable.

Very good in PvE I'd say.

best place to use this--->WSG tunnel. especially if you have 2 hunters defending the tunnel they place traps spaced away from eachother so the effect is constant and when the 15 sec cooldown is gone use it again and thats 4 frost traps which is pretty much all the way up the tunnel. Talk about snaring!. I have found this useful in PVE on 1 or more mobs for kiting. you can make them run over it, wing clip and run over the ice and they follow you back over the ice again. You will prolly get hit once in this scenario and they are pretty much toast with wing clip and frost trap effect on them. I havent found this useful in world pvp yet but i will try.

I don't have a hunter, so i don't know how useful this combo is but: Frost Trap and Volley...
Aren't those kinda made for eachother?

If there's not much d and theres one guy who steals flag if they steal flag JUST before they get frozen its awesome cause not only do all alli (and horde) get warned but guy is trapped for a while.

Drop this trap when fleeing and every mob behind you will be slowed for a good 5-10 sec. Visually impressive and great for capturing the flag in WSG.
