You can complete River Rapids Wrangler while or after the side quest Ruriq's River Rapids Ride - Kauriq Gleamlet Chapter part of Sojourner of Azure Span.

Kauriq Gleamlet Questline:

Mammoths Matter. Start at /way The Azure Span:Dragon Isles 44.77 50.55
Culling the Cullers.
Tackling the Falls.
The Gleamfisher.
Ice Breakers.
Wayward Winds.
A Wrestle of Wind and Water
Ruriq's River Rapids Ride.

After complete the questline, speak with Ruriq and select "I'd like to take your River Rapids Ride again."

The tip to get 40 fishes in one try is get the most fishes possible at the start, and use Drop Wide Net the most you can.
If fail, you can speak with Ruriq to get back at the end of the session.

You have 1 minute to get the 40 fishes: 40x stacks of Caught Fish.
To check your progress you have to see the buff Caught Fish, each fish is one stack.

Hi all

I present You Storyline Kauriq Gleamlet. This Storyline is part of Sojourner of Azure Span which is criteria for Loremaster of the Dragon Isles.

Quests in order I done:

1A. Mammoths Matter - Quest start From Ruriq 44.77 50.65. Collect 7 On'tuq Hide Scraps and 5 On'tuq Tusk from Mammoths body ( Big Mammoths is giving bouth items small only On'tuq Hide Scraps )
1B. Culling the Cullers - Slay 10 Vicious Ice Slitherer ( small one ) and 3 Vicious Ice Borer ( big one ).
3. Tackling the Falls - Help Ruriq build The Fallstrider - press on boat.
4. The Gleamfisher - pick up 3 Gleamfish /way 45.17 54.89 2 fish /way 44.92 53.77, then place them to Offering Basket is on table next to Quest giver. then conversation will start.
5A. Ice Breakers - Break 5 Freezing Water from ice. /way 46.19 57.09 /way 46.29 57.90 /way 46.97 58.04 /way 47.41 57.98 /way 47.09 58.71
5B. Wayward Winds - Collect 10 Restless Mote drop from wind elemental.
7. A Wrestle of Wind and Water - Go to cave under waterfall /way 45.50 56.77, and challange Kraunot just attacking him.
8. Ruriq's River Rapids Ride - Jump on boat and use skill 1 or 2 to caught 10 Fishs. After this quest storyline finish.

Ruriq appeared for a couple of seconds for me and disappeared before I could accept the first of the chain quests. Haven't seen him since. RiP sojourner :(

TIP!

On first shelf (slowest) look back after few seconds of sailing, fish will start to respawn and you can easily get few extra points on easy mode - rest is up to you.

I feel really silly but this might help someone...

Aim for the water ABOVE the fish.

Kept getting 25 to 32 over and over and then didn't understand why the net sometimes took 3 to 5 throws sometimes. Finally got it once I realized what I was doing wrong.

My Experience as of today:
since I have some vision issues related to moving objects and I am so keen on to do this achievement I tried to count the number of fish in sections according to the speed of the boat, so to plan which ones I can miss and the ones I should aim. Spamming and targeting failed so planning is better I believe.
There are around 48 to aim for.

As everyone mentioned above:

40 stacks are needed for the achievement and each fish is =1 stack.
Aim the same fish again upon respawn immediately, it will sure count.
The timer resets if u fail and start again.
This Achievement must be completed in one run.

So here are the numbers according to the speed.

First spot has 12 (Slow)
second 1 @ waterfall (Very fast) + 9 (Above Medium Speed)
Third 12 (Medium Speed)
Forth 5 (Above Medium Speed)
Fifth 5 (Above Medium Speed)
Sixth 4 (below medium speed)

Currently I am stuck @ 30 and trying to complete the 40. But I really hope the above fish count would help.

This is so Aggravating! I worked hard to get rep for this toy and now that I got it, they changed the quest and now its IMPOSSIBLE. The absolute highest I've been able to get is 37, the LAG and the forced camera change is ridiculous. COME ON!

Just an FYI, since this is likely to take a number of attempts. if you know you're going to fail, just exit the boat to port back up to Ruriq, instead of waiting to land and port back up.

you get a buff that tells you the stacks.
In my successful, post nerf, completion. I had 17 before i left the top level. Make sure to look behind you and catch the respawns.

Note - you dont have to do this quest while the world quest is up - you can just talk to ruriq and ask him to go down the rapids again.

tips that helped me:
Aim your cast just infront of the fish you want to catch - some groups need 2-3 casts to catch all of them - dont rely on 1 cast catching more than 1 fish.
Aim to get first set of fish before the first fall twice - they respawn is you're fast enough on the casts and turn around quick - there are 2 you can get before you even move, then 2-3 more as soon as you move -- then get the ones that are clumped up --- then turn around and get the 5 from the start. You should have about 10-15 before the first waterfall for a good run.

If anyone finds a way to stop the camera from constantly switching about, I'm all ears! So many missed fish from it switching POV on me and the bonus nausea effects.

For the River Rapids Wrangler achievement, you must catch 40 fish in one run of Ruriq's River Rapids Ride by boat The Fallstrider with Ruriq on board at the Kauriq Gleamiet on the small lake, in The Azure Span, northeast of the Azure Archives.

As a reward you will get the toy Tuskarr Dinghy, a small boat with which you can swim across the water.
If you haven't already done you need to start the quest line at Ruriq beforehand to be able to do the achievement.
The quest is also available as a world quest Ruriq's River Rapids Ride where you need to catch 25 fish if you have already unlocked the world quests.

When you start the quest or achievement you will get Caught Fish where you can see how many fish you have already caught.
It is best to try to catch single fish with Throw Net and multiple fish with Drop Wide Net.
Try to catch 14 fish at the top of the start before the first waterfall and 22 fish before the second waterfall, then the chances are higher to get the achievement, that's how I did it.
Turn the camera to the back and try to catch the respawn of the fish as well.
The stupid thing is always when the boat turns fast, but after a few tries you know about how to turn the camera.
Sometimes the fish are not caught even though the net lands directly on the fish, and that is very angry.

With a little bit of luck it works well. I wish you good luck with the achievement. :-)

OK, I was complaining, and still hated this, but it is doable now, if just barely.

Note: all the cheese methods have been patched away.... it's this or nothing.

Key tricks:

1) Aim just above the fish. Think of yourself throwing a net, not shooting a target. This hits more often than any other method I could find.
2) While you do turn backwards after the first few fish, try to get to 6 minimum before you do. Get the ones you ordinarily sweep by too fast, So first 4 fish, ignore the school, grab the side and back fish, THEN turn back and get respawns (again, throw just above). Spam them (there is sometimes a delay before the fish gets hit, if you've done it twice move on) Then hit the Big Net on the school as you pass over it, grab the last one (if you missed it) as you swing by.
3) Now turn forward as you start to fall. You will remain forward until the last rapid.
4) You have to nail the first fish as you fall on each rapid while still in the air (this includes the last rapid drop). Then move the camera and get the ones you pass by. If the fish are close you can get two in a single throw and save the Big Net for the couple of schools.
5) If you do it almost perfect, you can get 40 ...barely.

Still think it is way too hard post patch, but you can do it.

One more thing, if you don't absolutely nail the first area before the first rapid, click the escape key and start over. No sense making yourself nuts. In fact, look at the counter in your buffs. if you don't have 36 as you start the last fall, escape out and try again. There are only 4 fish left at that point and that first one at the end is the hardest in the whole run.

Enjoy your Dinghy! No question you paid for it in pure 100% irritation at the nets missing.

I was able to do this, but it took a good number of tries. What made it doable was turning the camera around in the first section and grabbing the fish as they repopulated, as I was getting to the first big group to drop the larger net. I was able to snag 16 at the top section before going over the first fall. Also dropping the big net right at the last fall helps if you are getting close. And doing my best to turn and snag the fish I passed as they repopulated.

Took about 10-15 runs, and getting to 39 one run was super fun, but is possible.

A few things that helped me

Practice until you can get the few fish in the beginning 1 shot turn around and be facing behind when you come up on the first last group then turn back around.
i think i had 15 at the first fall. Use exit vehicle to get quick practice and really nail down the first fall. Good luck took me 20ish try's.

I just tried this for the first time today, and it took me three attempts. Not sure if it has been nerfed at this point or what. It felt pretty easy. I'd give it a try again!
