Note: In Borean Tundra, an Arclight Spanner, along with a Mining Pick, will allow you to "skin" the Mechanicals running around in the Geyser Fields. Unknown yet if this also applies to Mechanicals elsewhere.

Again, Mechanicals will need an Arclight Spanner to be "skinned" by Miners.

It's probably a good idea to upgrade to using a Gnomish Army Knife (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40772) as soon as the budding engineer has the money or mats to get one. Good way to save bag space :] Although someone first creating the Arclight Spanner probably won't have the mats for the GAK, they run relatively cheap on most servers (under 3g), and saving that extra few bag slots gives you more room for stuff to sell, paying back very quickly.

Haha, not so bad dps actually:). Walked around with Anvilmar Axe on my dwarf hunter til lvl 12, when I realised I had a spanner in one of my bags that was betterXD. Would be epic if you could dual wield them!

Since this iconic item can't be used in Transmog (because stupid limit saying that Common items can't be used), anyone know of any nice engineer-y weapons that a caster could use? The only other two that use the model have both been removed from the game.

Dragonflight update: This is now a profession tool which cannot be equipped or Transmogged. This comment will no longer be updated with the latest weapons so check my profile.

For all of your roleplay needs, I compiled a list of occupational tools for everyday heroes. Look at a weapon's "Item Versions" or "Same model as" tab for ones easier to obtain or a different color or weapon type. Higher levels can obtain Appearances for lower-level alts. If you want a quest Appearance from the opposite faction but do not have a character, use a Class Trial. Let me know if I missed a weapon! Good for bartenders, cooks, fishermen, farmers, lumberjacks, miners, blacksmiths, engineers, alchemists, and angry protesters.

The new profession equipment no longer requires Engineers to have Blacksmith Hammer, Arclight Spanner, or Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor in their inventory or equipped as profession equipment.
