Purpose of this Guide:Picking a Pet

Shale Beast: Stats, Crit, and Solid Shell. Useful for if you need a short burst of damage reduction for a boss fight.

Clefthoof: Versatility, Multistrike, and Thick Hide. Useful if you want a passive emergency cooldown for your pet.

Core Hound: Multistrike, Ancient Hysteria, and Molten Hide. This pet is good for bosses that you need to kill quickly as it will do passive damage and give you "Bloodlust."

Stone Hound: Crit,, andStone Armor. If you're running with a person who dies frequently, this pet is very useful. Also, it has a passive emergency cooldown.

Spirit Beast: Mastery, Spirit Walk, and Spirit Mend. Spirit walk is fairly useless aside from an initial burst. The heal can be useful in some situations where you/a friend takes damage and even when those situations don't occur, it can be cast on the pet. Spirit mend is fairly weak though.

Aqiri: Stamina, Spell Power, and Tendon Rip. Useful to aid in kiting.

Fox: Not very useful, but it has Agile Reflexes which makes it somewhat viable if you really want a fox.

Major Glyphs:
: Extra healing to your pet.

: Extra healing from mend pet. Useful when you need to mend pet frequently.

: Required. Allows you to send aggro to your pet.

Charred Glyph: Adds an extra temporary taunt for your pet, however it makes kiting a bit harder.

Charred Glyph: Useful when debuffs do more damage than mend pet with can heal, or when debuffs reduce usefulness of your pet (Ex: A stun you can dispel)

Charred Glyph: Temporary invulnerability. Useful for frequent emergencies, or for using your burst without worrying about your pet's health as much.

Charred Glyph: Instant pet revive at a high cost. Shouldn't be needed in most cases, but if your pet dies frequently to a instant-kill attack, it may prove useful.

Minor Glyphs:
Charred Glyph: Only useful if you need to wipe an encounter without dismissing your pet. Otherwise avoid using it.

Charred Glyph: Use it if you don't need to use Charred Glyph as it provides an easier pet resurrection if enemies aggro on to you on it's death.

Charred Glyph: Allows you to use aspect of the cheetah for quicker getaways.

AdaptationRoar of Sacrifice

Ferocity has the perks of more damage and allows use of Heart of the Phoenix for a quick rez.

Tenacity has Thunderstomp for extra threat generation.

Cunning has Bullheaded for emergency CC breaks whenever applicable.

Basic Information

Cast the Misdirection macro to keep it up as much as possible.

Fire either Multi-Shot for many targets or for a single target.

Your pet should hold aggro by using Growl. Keep using Misdirection with attacks to assist in aggro as needed. (If you choose to use Charred Glyph, use it if an enemy isn't on your pet yet.)

Every few moments cast Mend Pet on your pet when it is below 90%. (The will allow more healing to be done so you won't need to spam it as often) Use Last Stand if your pet drops to about 15% and keep usingMend Pet until your pet is about 90% or more healed.( Keep in mind if you have you will be able to remove most harmful effects through healing.) (Exhilaration should be used in alternation withMend Pet or when your health is getting low too, if you have it.)

In the case your pet dies do one of the following: Cast Heart of the Phoenix (If applicable); If you haveCharred Glyph, use Cobra Shot until you have the focus while kiting enemies, cast, then misdirect spam for your pet to get aggro;Run away and use any sort of CC you have then Revive Pet; Activate Deterrence and Revive Pet;Use Feign Death,then Revive Pet; Revive Pet standalone if all other cooldowns are not ready (The Charred Glyph will prevent pushbacks)

What the hell is the point of a talent calculator... Just seems like I can put stuff in there I already know... It just seems unnecessary

While I don't object to any of the choices you provided for tanking pets, I've personally had a great time with my Gorilla, thanks to the buff from . Especially with a Tenacity build for tanking, and Thunderstomp from it, my Gorilla is a hearty tank who has served me well since my tour of duty in Northrend (prior to Northrend, I focused on DPS pets like cats). Gorillas are in the Tenacity family of pets, too, so even without having the coolest abilities, they are solid tanks, especially if you build yourself right.

For reference, my talents are Narrow Escape, Intimidation, , , , and . For the moment, I'm still at level 96, but leaning towards Adaptation for my main BM build.
