You can earn reputation with these characters by doing the tillers dailies and giving them gifts, such as Blue Feather, which can be looted from patches of Dark Soil on the ground. These patches are found all over Pandaria. Personally I found a lot of them spawn in the farm near Halfhill and the zones where you are sent for the Tillers dailies.

One helpful tip for spotting the dark soils, is to fly on high altitude. Mind you, I did this on the Valley so may not work in all zones. If you do this in the valley and fly at high altitude, at some point the plants are no longer rendered but the patches are. Try it by finding a patch of dark soil and flying straight up. You'll notice that the soil can be spotted way longer than the plants. The biggest benefit f doing it on high altitude is that now the plants that sometimes obscure the soil are not visible therefore making it so much easier to spot the patches of soil.

Hint: If you have friends in other realms (low population is preferred), you can make use of the new update. When you group up with your friend, you will get tranferred to their realm (at least i did) and have acces to the dark soil containers there!

Once you get this achievement you will no longer be able to loot the patches of Dark Soil on the ground. You can still see them but can't interact with them. This is to prevent players who are already 'best friends' with every member of the tillers from getting the items other players may need.

but when u have this achivement u cna choose someone to stay at ur farm ... does it benefit anything from whom u choose jogu can live in ur pond and easily telly u for free the forecast of next days crop ... but apart from that ?

Would like to note that these do not count towards 60 Exalted Reputations which in patch 5.1 was nerfed from needing 70 to only requiring 60 reputations.

After getting exalted with the Tillers, you are able to have one NPC with whom you are best friends with to hang out at the farm.

Do they do anything?

Using the Black soil add-on from curse. Also turning off the ground clutter. i was able to get every rep grinded in a couple days. Do all the ones in The valley of the four winds, and then fly north to kun lai summit. (the temple of the white tiger) Do NOT waste ur time turning them in until you have a bunch of them, like 20 each. it is a waste of time flying all over to turn them in when you only have a couple of each. Remember to turn in the right gifts to the right people. 900 rep, vs 500.
I thought this was a waste of time for 10 achievement points. If i could do it all over again, i'd find something more productive to do.

I am curious if anyone knows how you can give NPCs the food items they like or is that just added to confuse people? Three of us have been trying for nearly an hour to figure this out.

As you may have noticed the reputation with these NPCs is not displayed correctly: It shows a full bar while not 100% have been reached. This macro will show you with who you can still gain reputation:

Edit: If it lists nothing then you've already maxed out all the reputation.

Just throwing in a useful macro I could not find anywhere for Friends on the Farm

It's a simple Itemcount of the food in your inventory which you can give to each NPC and prints the info to the chat.

This was the first Macro I made, there's propably a way to do it better, but it works.

I'm using the Addon "Macro Toolkit" to extend Macros from 255 to 1024 characters.
