The flavor text of all these coins are at least double as funny/interesting if you know who the persons are who threw them into the fountain.

these Goldcoins feature the most popular/well known warcraft characters. the silver coins feature some of the most known supporting actors of warcraft lore. the bronze coins feature some better known quest characters or minor supporting characters

Most of these characters seem to be mages who probably have studied or whatever they did in Dalaran. (Jaina, Kel'Thuzad, Kael'thas,...)

Other ones are simply very important characters, or had something to do with Dalaran (like Archimond and Arthas crushing it)

You can find these in the Fountain next to the South Dalaran Bank (There is a Fishing trainer next to it)

Those have an use option to throw it back like : Anduin Wrynn's Gold Coin
You can throw it away with no remorse, cause it will count in your achievement when you catch it. (if you don't want to keep it ... it's useless :p)

So try to throw it back you will get a 2minute buff : Lucky
This buf increase your chances to catch coins in the fountain :
For 6 catches, i got 3 silver coins, 1 bronze and 2 fishes with this buff.
That's not a great increase ... since you get silver coins very often.

It appears that the gold coins dissapear after logging out for a certain duration.

I had fished up one of these prior to logging out for the day, when I came back the next day it was gone.

Nobody has said where the fountain actually is... It's in The Eventide zone, in the south of Dalaran. Right near the Grand Master Fishing Trainer.

The drop(fishup)rates on these are presumably all equal, however in my experience, I've been going at it for quite a while now, they are not quite the same

My Waterloo remains Lady Katrana Prestor, who's Coin I have never seen yet.
It's the only one I still need, and it's kinda frustrating, knowing I fished up Chromie's Gold Coin 13 times. They should be same rate. For some reason, I don't think they are.

Did you checked the vendor sell price of the coins? 1c-62c; 1s-62c; 1g-1s25c
So, if a simple footman scribe some text on copper coin and drop it there, the coin will worth 62 times more!
But if a king scribe the text on silver coin, the value of coin will be decreased by 38%!
Also look at poor gold coins they loose 98,75% after some Arthas or Jaina scribe on it.

You don't need skill 430 to be able to fish in the fountain.

I just gained Grand Master Fishing (skill 350) and succesfully fished up some coins with Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (Fishing +100). So you can easily complete these achievements while gaining some skill too.

Are you stupid? It does require 430 fishing. You had 350 + 100 from the lure, making 450.

Been stuck for the last 2 hours with Brann, Thrall, Lady Katrana, and Tirion. Can't seem to get them, though I've honestly seen Arugal's coin more than any other.

I've been trying to fish up Arthas' Gold Coin for 2 weeks! it's really frustrating to see that everyone gets him all the time. it really supports the equal percentage drop theory posted previously. each person has their personal elusive coin.

I ran a simulation of catching gold coins. It assumes each gold coin has a drop chance of 0.3%. Below it shows how many times you have to cast your fishing rod until you have gotten them all:

I used the drop rates from www.elsanglin.com/dalaran_fishing.html#fountain (6.2% unbuffed, 9.9% buffed), did some fancy spreadsheet work, and came up with the following:

50% chance of collecting all 15 coins within 596 casts
75% chance within 761 casts
90% chance within 952 casts

This assumes your fishing skill is high enough to never get "Your coin got away!", that you use gold coins to get the Lucky buff whenever possible, and can maintain an average 2.5 casts/minute.

At it for 2 hours now, only missing Lady Jaina's and Uther Lightbringer's. Looks like it very random on which one's prove to be the hard one's to get. Lost track of casts but I go in with 450 base fishing, the "Big Iron Fishing Pole" +20 fishing, and I use "bright baubles" +75 fishing, I never get "fish got away". I hope the coin master is worth it. We'll see.

The chance of fishing up a Gold coin is approximately 1%, which means that you should catch at least 1 Gold coin for every 100 casts you make.

The likelihood of catching any single gold coin in particular is 0.06% or 1% divided by 15.

For those of us/you who don't dwell into the Lore of the world too much, here is a brief explanation of what those coins say:

Anduin Wrynn's Gold Coin - Anduin Wrynn is King Varian Wrynn's son. For the entire duration of Vanilla WoW and The Burning Crusade (and even now in WotLK), his model has been one of a 10 years old boy.
Archimonde's Gold Coin - Archimonde obliterated the entire city of Dalaran when he was summoned by Kel'Thuzad. Apparently the fountain survived.
Arthas' Gold Coin - He must have mispronounced "scone". Instead of English biscuit or bread, Arthas received a Frozen Throne - his seat of power in Northrend.
Arugal's Gold Coin - Arugal was a mage of Kirin Tor, who desperate after Dalaran's destruction by the Scourge, used The Book of Ur and other materials by the magician Ur (who had extensive research on the Worgen) to summon help from a different dimension. But it was no help he summoned - it was the savage Worgen, who slaughtered not only Arugal's Scourge enemies, but his Kirin Tor friends as well. Mad with guild he adopted the wolf-people and took permanent residence in the Shadowfang Keep...
Brann Bronzebeard's Gold Coin - Disregarding the real-life pun of these words, Brann, the most famous explorer in Azeroth apparently could not resist the temptation to mark Dalaran and its fountain as just another place he visited in his journeys.
Chromie's Gold Coin - Chromie is actually a Bronze dragon called Chronormu, who takes the form of a female gnome. The coin probably refers to the vast number of jokes about gnomes, and the Bronze dragons' ability to time travel.
Kel'Thuzad's Gold Coin - Kel'Thuzad was a Kirin Tor mage, sent in exile because of his experiments with necromancy. Later on he became an Arch Lich and one of the leaders of the Scourge - one of the greatest villains Azeroth has known in centuries. All of this because he wanted a hug...
Lady Jaina Proudmoore's Gold Coin - Plain and simple. Jaina Proudmoore, present ruler of Theramore, mage of Kirin Tor, and friend of Thrall had a love affair with Arthas Menethil, prince of Lordaeron back then. Even as Arthas started sliding down the path, and turning into a Death Knight and Lich King, Jaina's love persisted.
Lady Katrana Prestor's Gold Coin - Lady Katrana Prestor, the human disguise of Deathwing's daughter Onyxia was well known for her hunger for power and subtle threats... Messing with a wishing fountain was too much for her however.
Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider's Gold Coin - Although the coin mentions Prince Kael'thas' Sunstrider's affection for Jaina Proudmoore when she was a young apprentice in Dalaran, the real point of this coin is probably making fun of the stereotypical image of narcissistic elves, to which Kael'thas belongs.
Sylvanas Windrunner's Gold Coin - Alleria, Vereesa, and Sylvanas were the three famous Windrunner ranger sisters. Their sisterly love for each other was unimagined, and the centuries they had lived only served to amplify it. Currently Alleria is lost on another world, Vereesa leads a faction of High Elves, and Sylvanas is the Banshee Queen of the Forsaken. Hopefully the three are not lost to each other for an eternity, and Sylvanas' dream can come true.
Teron's Gold Coin - Teron Gorefiend was a member of Gul'dan's Shadow Council, and a powerful warlock of the First Horde. After his death, he was raised as a Death Knight in human body. The Eye referenced in the coin is the Eye of Dalaran, a powerful artifact Gorefiend stole from Dalaran, so his new master - Ner'zhul - can open more dimensional rifts from Draenor to Azeroth.
Thrall's Gold Coin - Grom Hellscream was an orc chieftain Thrall aspired to during his rise to power. Grom died in battle, defeating the demon Mannoroth, thus freeing the orcs from the demonic taint that burned their blood. Thrall never forgot his sacrifice.
Tirion Fordring's Gold Coin - Typical wish from the paladin Tirion Fordring, regarding his son Taelan. His death was the main reason Tirion decided to come out from hiding and re-form the Order of the Silver Hand, he himself becoming one of the most powerful paladins in Azeroth.
Uther Lightbringer's Gold Coin - Uther Lightbringer was a mighty paladin, teacher of Arthas Menethil in the arts of not only service of the Light, but morals and combat, when the prince of Lordaeron was a young boy and a teenager. Uther knew Arthas to be a little passionate for a paladin, but hoped that the future Lich King will develop determination and courage, instead of cruelty. His hopes were in vain...

Whether this is still part of the lore remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely given that no source mentions a meeting of the two and other lore sources since have contradicted the possibility. The fact that Deathwing was seen smoking a hookah was blamed on a "miscommunication". from WoWWiki)

I finally have all my coins after a good time spent in Dalaran. I didn't use all my gold coins for the 'lucky' buff, coz, y'know...lore...

Anyway, this achieve took me about 2 hrs and 56mins. This is what I fished up during my quality time.

Either I'm especially unlucky or they have drastically changed the drop rate of certain coins since people were posting they did the whole thing in 2 or 3 hours. At 750 fishing I'm at almost 5 hours with no sign of the last coin.

Edit: Removing the Underlight Angler and then equipping it again after throwing a coin gives you the Lucky buff again. I believe that was an issue with some poles in the past as well.

Beware, people using the Underlight Angler with the Way of the Flounder trait.

I just used coins while that effect was active and I didn't get the Lucky buff. It seems that the coin works similar to a mob targeting you and it's unable to find you, while you are faded by the trait.

After removing the buff another coin gave me the buff without any problems.
