Can be incredibly useful in PvP. It also has PvE uses, as it allows you to survive, or even tank, virtually anything that does physical damage for 10 seconds.

Note that if you use this against warriors that they'll most likely spam their Overpower skill. This can be destructive if they have Improved Overpower which increases the critical strike chance by 50%.

Given that Hunters have extremely high dodge from high Agility

To bad Hunter's dodge from agi is getting an extreme nurf!
Agi will now give about 85% less dodge than it does currently.

Wowhead is now showing this as a level 60 spell. You'll also want to pick up the new glyph that modifies this. Strange thing is, the glyph is usable at level 20 even though you can't get this spell until level 60. Anybody know why there is this difference?

I don't know if it's been mentioned here, but deterrence actually levels up your weapon skill after 3.0.8.

Something like a mage's Ice Block, with the difference that while deterrence is active you can move, but during Ice Block you cannot. Really useful when carrying flags in Warsong Gulch. Also, Ice Block protects you more, because it protects you from all attacks. Deterrence only protects you from melee attacks and spells that are done from your FRONT. Any attacks made from the rear, holy attacks or ranged attacks will not be dodged.

So let me get this right:

Hunters could dual wield weapons that could have Blade Ward on each of them, possibly stacked to 5 stacks at 1000 parry rating from each weapon, which could then be doubled by Deterrence for 2,000 parry rating from each weapon for 5 seconds, at which point their next parry would hit the attacker with both of the maxxed out blade ward buffs for 3-4,000 damage each.

8,000 damage parry melee Huntard for the win.

This skill is usaully used to deflect powerful spells that usually have a long cooldown. For example Lava Burst - deflecting it when fighting an elemental shaman most of the time means victory for you. The only problem is, that Lava Burst has an 8 second cooldown, and Deterrence on you lasts for 5 seconds, that means, if you deflect Lava Burst just after pressing (or clicking) deterrence, after it's effect expires, you'll only have 3 seconds + Lava Burst casting time to do some damage to him before he launches another boulder of Lava at you. But wait, there's one easy way to make it as efficient as it can be, and it's not clicking on the deterrence's buff icon in the top right corner. Just make a macro of every shot/sting you have, in which you'll type to show the shot's/sting's tooltip and icon, the command to shoot your shot/sting, and, before that, a command to cancel deterrence's effect (/cancelaura deterrence). Put those macros in your action bars instead of the original shot/sting icons. Example of a macro:

Just after deflecting a powerful spell or spell combo like Lava Burst + Chain Lightning, simply start shooting at him by clicking a shot/sting (you will be able to do that before the effect expires (for the one's who did not realised that yet :D)) that you would use after deterrence's effect expires. Just be careful and don't hit a shot/sting button before the effect expires if you still need it, that means, when you use deterrence, don't hit any macro with the command to cancel deterrence until you don't need it's effect anymore. If you are used to do that too much, you can create a macro with only a command to /cancelaura deterrence and, when you need it, use it. This is also not a bad choice if you can allow yourself some time to do that.

EDIT: Read all the comments, and want to answer a question. Yes, this DOES deflect warrior charge/intercept stuns, just like ANY other attack or spell, except for those which cannot be dodged/blocked/parried (like Overpower), and will not deflect or remove the DoT's or their ticks which are already on you, but will not allow to pop up some new until it's effect expires.

Now the spell makes ranged attacks miss too so you will be absolutely invunerable.Also the mirrored blades (rank 2) talent (will be added in cataclysm) gives you 100% chance to REFLECT the incoming damage.Awesome.

Ah, looks like this has been changed yet again. Apparently, we can now use Tame Beast while using Deterrence. However, it reportedly will not parry anything when you're channeling Tame Beast, which is odd.

This ability can deflect the vast majority of spells, whether they be single target or AoE (This includes ground targeted AoEs like fires, as well), so it can easily save your skin during a boss fight, or spare your healers some mana if you're at full health already.

Note that attacks made to you while your targets are stealthed will still hit you.(cheapshot pounce ambush garrote etc.)
The same Principle applies to shadow dance. While the rogue is in shadow dance he can ambush cheapshot or even garrote you.

You can effectively swap out pets while under detterence now.

Before it wouldn't work because you can't parry/dodge while casting.

Great for BM in arena as if you stack spirit beasts you can pull out a 2nd and grab another free heal and CotW/rabid

You can cast Scare Beast while Deterrence is up. Quite handy when a feral druid has you so low that fake casting to dodge his interrupt will take too long.

while deterrence is highly effective in most situations as ive used it in raids and extreme soloing raids... it does NOT work on every attack. 100% nothin...when doing the daily (Enduring The Heat) in hyjal, the unstable flameragers DO hit you using regular melee attacks when deterrence is activated, and its for 100%. So dont always rely on it.

Deterrence now also reduces damage taken by 30% while active.

From patch 4.3.2 this is changed to provide 30% damage reduction while active. This is good to lessen the damage already existing dots do to you while in deterrence.

I believe you can still take damage while this ability is active, if the hit received is large enough. My dungeon group was fighting the first boss of Blackrock Caverns(Rom'ogg Bonecrusher or something like that), and he began casting his Skullcracker ability. After we broke the chains, everyone spread out, but I stayed next to the boss and used Deterrence, but took 40k damage(the link in the combat log said it was supposed to do 100k). It would have killed me if it wasn't for the newly-added 30% damage reduction on Deterrence, since I survived the attack with about 10k health left :p. It could be similar to a Holy Priest's "Guardian Spirit" ability, which also has certain exceptions that are not mentioned in the tooltip.

Also, while Deterrence is active, you can lay traps, deploy flares, ~~use Kill Command~~ and non-damaging cooldowns, and give commands to your pet.

EDIT: I realize that Deterrence does not block AoE abilities, and that may be why I took damage.

What makes hunters able to use this twice in such a short cooldown? Every hunter in pvp is silence shot, deterrence, deterrence, camouflage/stealth, frost trap, disengage, and then they die. I'd like to kill them sooner but this ticks me off.
