I got the 10 wins achievement and yet the progress of this quest is still at 5/10. Seems buggy.

Actually I think it's caused by the bug that sometimes temporarily removes account level quests - something on Bnet's side.

Can one get VP on a character under level 90 with this quest?
I can pick it up on a lot of my under level 90 characters, but I haven't the patience (or the good pets) to complete it.

Just to summarize some of the questions and answers here, for those of us on EU realms - Yes this is weekly and the reset is available again every Tuesday rather than raid reset the next night. (The quest can be handed in once per account it seems and can be part completed on any number of your characters).

Read the quest really carefully, those of you not getting credit for fights remember that it must involve 3 lvl 25 pets or it wont count.

Finally for now you can accept this quest on any of your characters even below 90, and you can hand it in on any character for the vps as well, so don't hand in if capped on that character, swap to an alt. I've even collected vps on a character 85 etc.

I was in the barrens doing the quest there and I suddenly saw a ? in Org. I thought, "Why do I have a quest complete in Org, especially since I'm alliance?" It turned out that it was this quest and it said I had won 181 pet battles. That was strange, since I hadn't even done any. As soon as I went to Durotar and turned the quest in, the pet quest got removed from my quest log. I noticed this happened on all my characters if I hearthed or took the boat or portaled, but sometimes the quest got removed from my quest log and sometimes it didn't. It would always have a large random amount of battles I had supposedly won. I would watch out for this quest and just finish it as soon as you take it before you go anywhere or you might lose credit.

Last week I've noticed a bug or maybe a feature of this quest.

I've start battle with lv60 char from Thunderbluff and had some wins but non of this wins count for this quest.
Canceled quest use port to shrine and got quest. Used portal to TB and win again some battles but they also no count for the quest.
wait little bit and used again port to shrine and try to made some pet battle from here ... all wins count for this quest
My suggestion: This quest is maybe only possible when starting from MoP zone

Try again today with some pet battles in TB .. win still not count for quest but wins count for any Achivement like Brutal Pet Brawler.
Went again to shine and all wins on pet battle count again for this quest.

Therefore for all which have problems to finish the quest: always start pet battle from MoP zone otherwise wins maybe not count for the quest

This quest was removed from my quest log at 10:43 ET on September 21, 2013. I got an in-game message about it. The quest Battle Pet Tamers: Northrend was removed a moment later..

Is there a quick way to win this thing? I don't have a lot of time to play and to won 10 pvp battles with 25 lvl pets seems impossible to me. Why it has to be 10 battles. I have problem to win single one so it would take so long for me to complete this quest that i dont even bother. They could just change it from 10 won battles to 10 defeated pets in pvp battles. I can defeat one or with the best luck two pets from enemy player but whole team? nada...

At least you could give me som advice about teams. I dont want to read long guides like

And before anyone asks why i want to do this q at all... Its because the freaking Pet Treat to speed up leveling of my pets... since i dont have a lot of time to play (as i said earlier)

I see a lot of players say they won a fight but it didn't count. I think that the following conditions are necessary to have the fight count:

Your 3 battle pets in the slots have to be all level 25
You find your pet battle via the pet battle tab button "Find Battle" (bottom right corner)

When you challenge somebody in the field, they might not have all pets at level 25.

This bugs out for me all the time....practically every week. I have an 85+ toon I use for the fights, and that's how I level them to 90 (tired of quests after a zillion 90's).

Anyway, somewhere between 3 and 6 wins, the wins stop coming.

I play the alliance, mainly, but have some horde toons. When this bug happens, the only way I've found that will always fix it, is to log on a horde toon and do the fights. Not ideal, but at least it works.

And yes, all pets are level 25 blah blah blah.

Having the trainer title, some people asked me how to do this quest (and the pet pvp battle achievements) faster than in one week, because they seem to have trouble doing it since lots of players are using "hard" setup to beat. Of course you have lots of possibilities in pvp pet battling, but my advices are based on setup you can mount with easily findable/buyable pet (upgraded to rare).

First, the most annoying setup to beat is one you will eventually meet if you do pvp pet battles, meaning :
> Un'born Val'kir (haunt / curse of doom)
> Magical Crawdad (wish / shell shield)
> Death adder Hatchling (poison fang / puncture wound / blinding poison)

This setup is hard because people generally open with haunt and then swap to adder to blind you. if any problem happens they will just swap to magical crawdad and heal the adder. then they just repeat the cycle untill your first pet die and then it's a lose for you.

If this setup is making you nuts here is a good one to counter it:
> Chi-chi (alpha strike / tranquility / etheral)
> Arctic hare, or any rabbit with (flurry / dodge / burrow)
> lil 'bling (inflation / extra plating / make it rain)

Since the basic strategy here is to put curse and haunt first with the valkyr, open with your hare. Those are always faster than valkyr, dodge first, flurry and then burrow, the purpose here is to delay the haunt and dps the valkyr as much as you can.
Once your hare is haunted, the other will probably swap to his adder. then take lil'bling, extra plate yourself and inflation him. If the opponent doesnt swap to magical, good, you'll kill the adder with make it rain because of the last inflation debuff applied on him (you'll miss the 2 first though).
If the guy swap to magical crawdad because he wants to heal his adder or whatever, swap to Chi-chi, and full alpha strike on him, in any way, he wont be able to full heal his pet and wont nuke Chi-chi.
At this point, the valkyr will be ressurected and your hare will be low on hp. Keep Chi-chi in any way because he'll be able to dps / avoid both abilities of magical crawdad and adder.
If the opponent swap back to his valkyr, put a tranquility up and swap to your hare using dodge and burrow to begin another cycle.
the key of this fight is to take advantage of dps against valkyr, avoid the blinding poison of adder and burst the magical crawdad in order to nullify his heal. Of course in case of bad RNG you can still lose, but this setup is so far the best i've found against it.

The second setup that lots of peoples love to use is the x3 fossilized hatchling combo (bone bite / ancient blessing / BONESTORM), or x2 fossilized + creepy crate (creepy chomp / curse of doom / BONESTORM).
this setup is extremely annoying, because based on bonestorm dps'ing your back pets and taking advantage of the last-pet-standing hp (usually having twice hp than you). Undead racial and ancient blessing of fossilized hatchling giving more opportunities to make a bonestorm and win the battle.

A good setup against it is :
> Emerald turtle (healing wave / powerball)
> x2 Huge toad (tongue lash / healing wave / swarm of flies)

those pets have around 1800 hp and are aquatic, meaning the bonestormer will need do to at last 10 bonestorms to win, which is impossible. With your turtle and toad having selfheals and critters ability, you should be able to easily win the battle.

Now if you want my opinion, I dont think there is one setup above all, and I dont like pet battles based on swaps and lame abilities. I like to use each pet untill they die and get the most of them, and it has always worked so far (which is logical because swapping is a lost of turn and is sometime critical in a pet battle).

you can just go for :
x3 Elfin rabbit (flurry, dodge, burrow)
those are immune to stuns and sleeps, faster than mosts of pet, can dodges critical abilities and flurry is nice against decoys and 1-time dodges. you can easily win against the x3 fossilized but not the valkyr based setup (since adder will eat your rabbits and magical crawdad will nullify their dps).
only setups containing beasts and humanoids (pets/abilities) will be able to easily win against this setup.

Another good setup would be :
x3 lil 'bling (inflation, extra-plating, make it rain)
lil'blings are fasts, extra-plate can allow you to inflation and then make it rain for nice dps. just make sure not to do inflation before extra plating, engage with make it rain, extra-plate yourself, and roll will inflation, you'll be able to win against most of "common" setups. you can even easily beat the valkyr and bonestorm based setups, only elementals pets/abilities will be the end of you.

Now the last setup i'd advise you to roll with if you want to have fun is the onyxia-bwl-pets :
> Death talon whelpguard (shadowflame, whirlwind, clobber)
> untamed hatchling (tail sweep, roar, instability)
> chrominius (arcane explosion, howl, surge of power)

take your death talon, clobber, whirlwind if you want, and just spam shadowflame till your dead. then you take your untamed hatchling and roar and instability the opponent. if you have luck , since instability is 50% hit, you'll blow him, and force the last pet-standing between chrominius and his pet. 90% of the pets wont be able to two shot chrominius, so just make sure to apply howl and finish him without beeing avoided on surge of power.

Lastly, get a pet battle addon, make different setups, and change them between each queueing.

One of the most boring things in the game. Standing there healing and stunning each other non-stop just to eventually give up out of boredom after 30 mins of all pets being at full health.

I did this today - just as I always do .- but after a couple of fights, I realized I had not gotten credit for the quest.

Yes, 3 lvl 25 (my usual team), not in raid, used the Find Battle option, just as I always do. But alas, no credit. I got credit for the "win 1000 PvP battles", but tbh, I just now realized that I did not check whether I got credit for the "win 1000 PvP battles with a full team of 25's. Made a ticket.

The only thing I can think of is that I did it on a lvl 87 character. I had always done that before - maybe it has to be a lvl 90 now?

The GM was not very helpful, but abandoning the quest and picking it up again worked. Come to think of it, it was actually "last week's" quest - maybe that was the reason.

I decided to start doing this quest every day to work toward the 250 Pet Battles achievement, and chose this team:

L'il Ragnaros (2/1/2)
Bone Serpent (1/2/1)
Weebomination (1/1/2)

4 out of the 10 matches I joined, the other players forfeited before it was even over, because my team was killing them so quickly. There's a ton of pet battle combos that can be used, but this one is working GREAT for me today! A forfeit still counts as a win toward the quest so it saved me some time actually, and gave me some free wins toward the pet brawler achievement. Happy battling!

This quest is NOT worth the time and extensive effort required.

Upon completion, I received:
15 Gold, 40 silver & "Brawler's Pet Supplies"

I was hoping the Brawler's Pet Supplied would contain training stones, marked flawless battlestones, and more exciting goodies. I was highly disappointed. In the "Brawler's Pet Supplies", I received:

Battle Pet Bandage x 2
Pet Treat
Sack of Expired Pet Food (junk item sold for 3 gold)

Don't waste your time...

One of those pet battle quests that needs some serious love. Any pet battler who can force themselves through the 10 wins needed in PVP should get a bit more then a pet snack and some dusty food. At the least they should pop a marked stone in there.

Currently i just keep it on if i happen to visit SW as i'm doing other pet achies.

Ok if you're like me and coming to this page to figure out if you have to do this quest in order to be allowed pet tamers the answer is no.
When pet battles first came out I started along the quests then decided I wasn't interested, now I'm trying to get back into it but can't interact properly with most Pet Trainers.
If you're like me to fix this issue it is not the quest from Varzok (or the Alliance counterpart) you need to open these up, you need to open your achievements in the pet battle section and find the last tamer you beat, they will have the quest for you so you can continue on with the pet tamers.

i have gotten the quest since 9.0 but it is account-tracked not per character. I have picked it up on different alts (51-60) and it shows in all the quests logs. can only complete it once. gives 8800 character exp too.
