This was a good quest. I soloed it at lvl 17 on my bloodelf mage. The drop rate was typical for me. The Spinal Dust dropped every 2-4 kills off of Dreadbone Sentinels and it dropped off a few Deathcage Sorcerers too. I found these mobs in the Dead Scar west of the Andilien Estate. And yes, do watch out for Luzran, he's quite a pain and although he is fat and moves slow he'll sneak up on ya and whack u down in no time. GL and have fun!

i found very good drop rate around 40,57 and the mobs that give u those dusts are deathcage sorcerers and deadbones sentinels

be careful when pulling, if Luzran is next to a mob you pull, he'll come too and make your life miserable.

Not a fan of this quest. The drop rate fluctuated greatly. I killed 6 or more mobs with no drop, then I got 4 in a row. After collecting 8, I grinded nearly 25min without seeing another. In all, I almost grinded a full level trying to do this quest.

The drop rate on the dust, I agree, is poor in general. It may drop readily at one point, but the frequency of it doing that seems to be so sporadic that it doesn't really make up for it. It's not a bad quest though, especially since it's repeatable (at 500 reputation per turn in, even), but do expect to spend quite a while working on it.

If it helps, I almost always got a dust from the caster mobs (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=16308), but they seem to be few and far between as well. Happy hunting. =\

This quest is very annoying just for the shear fact that the drop rate is terribly low. You have to kill the Dreadbone Sentinels. Good luck.

Horrible droprate for these. The mobs closer to deathlome don't drop anything special, they have the same droprate as the rest of the sentinels, which is just plain bad.

Be prepared to grind out at least half a level or more of plain mob experience trying to finish this quest. Why anyone would do it as a repeatable quest is beyond me, personally. It's worse, and even less fun than grinding timbermaw rep, which should say something about the quest.

The hearts aren't half as bad as these, which is fairly bizarre.

It looks like Blizzard fixed the drop rate on the quest items. Practically every sentinel I killed dropped one and I finished the quest rather quickly.

If you read the quest carefully, you;ll note that the spinal dust only drops from skeletons. The zombies will drop rotten hearts which are nice, too, but only the skeletons will give you the dust. Drop rate is not bad. Definitely over 50% for me.

The quest marker always sends me to the north end of the scar. Ignore that marker and go south! The mobs are right and the drop rate is much higher. Less frustration guaranteed.

Dust drops from Dreadbone Sentinels only. Also your lvl is dependent on what lvl mobs drop it. Sentinels in the northern part of the Dead Scar are lower lvl and if your higher lvl I have come to see it wont drop as often if at all. So, if you are higher lvl go to the south part.

Had to abandon this quest because none would drop for me. I tried abandoning the quest, re accepting it but again, none would drop. I've just given up on this quest and hope I don't need to complete for some important reason.

Pretty much the single most dropped quest in wow at least for those starting out in the area. Not sure why wow won't fix this. Had to be a reason it was this crappy early on. Obviously has not been fixed in at least four years.

The drop rate still sucks for this quest even after Cata. I got a Spinal Dust drop once every 2-4 skeletons, sometimes even five and you can only find them either south of the dead scar with the stronger mobs, or way north of the dead scar with the weaker ones. Funny they are repeatable because I don't think anyone will do them again!

Believe as of 5.04 this quest is bugged. Spent about 10 minutes killing undead and didn't get a single one. Probably killed close to 50. Was reading the drop rate is bad, but it can't be THIS bad.

I've added a snapshot to this quest which will hopefully help a lot of you out if it get's approved. It tells you where to kill the skeletons exactly (The ones that actually have spinal dust) it took my forever to finally figure it out.

While working on the Eastern Kingdoms loremaster achievement the drop rate was terrible until I started killing the scourge just outside the entrance to Deatholm. I had 2 Spinal Dust from killing 95% of the scar further to the north, in just two rounds of killing those at the entrance to Deathholm I was able to complete the quest. Might have been a fluke of luck, but it was, in my experience, the best drop rate by far and worth a shot to complete the quest quickly.

Dreadbone Sentinel at the southern end of the Scar have a much high drop rate of the Spinal Dust then any other mob in the area.

I completed this quest and "More Dust" five times in the early morning so there was no competition. The mobs in the north part of Scar seem to have a 1 in 20 chance of dropping, while the Dreadbone Sentinels in the south are rough 1 in 3 chance.

Also, the Risen in the southern Scar have a higher drop rate on the Rotting Hearts needed for the Rotting Hearts quest (also turns in with Magistrix Aminel). Might as well finish that one while you are there.

Warning: Knucklerot and Luzran (lvl 21 Elites) patrol this area, so keep an eye out for them as well.

Yes, the quest is mandatory for ghostlands completion.
Easier to just buy Rotting Hearts and Spinal Dust on the auction house, usually pretty cheap.
