How odd, I mined one of these In badlands and didnt get any ore.. Just 4 heavy stone.

In addition to Iron, a small to fair amount of Mythrill may be found both in the cave at Dry Whisker Gorge (North East Corner above Hammerfall), as well as the two ogre caves. On an average run, I've come out with 60+ Iron, 16+ Mythrill, and the occasional Silver, Gold, Truesilver. This comes in especially hand when trying to power level your mining and or Engineering/Smithing.

Well i've tried every place mentioned above and i find S. Barrens to be THE place.
Do a complete circuit, and then do it again and "everything" will have respawned.
Made a newbie Engineer VERY happy.

I can attest to Iralima's find....

i'm watching my buddy mine each node about 4-7 times

he's taking home in about an hour and a half about:

203 iron ore

215 heavy Stones

23 gold ore

and 11 gems

definitely a must-find

Wow, just found five nodes stacked ontop of eachother in Western Plaguelands... Hooray for insta-spawn rates!

Umm ok, so I just did a round trip, back to this same node. Mined it six times for 19 Iron ore! O.O its on the very southern part of the border. 75.84. Hope it does the same for others!

I grinded for like 10-15min in feralas and got 4silver and 84 iron so i would say that is a really good place

Another good place is in Eastern plaguelands, in Terrorweb Tunnel (4.4, 35.9).

If someone hasn't already cleaned it out, you can find several nodes in here, around 7-9.

I can say, with certainty, that Feralas is THE place to be for Iron Deposit. In 30 minutes, with Master Riding and a time of 01.35am, I have gathered over 133 Iron Ores. Along with that, I also came across 7 Gold Ore, 3 Truesilver Ore and 2 Silver Ore. This place is a goldmine for Iron and I thank the above comments for sending me here. :)

I haven't tried any other place since Cata dropped, but I can say that within ten minutes of flying around Feralas I got 3 stacks of 20 ore. Along with some gold, and some silk.
This was on my 76 pally w/ speed aura and guild speed buff. Still, you mine a node, take off, fly for a few seconds, and another is on your screen. I've only done the bottom half of Feralas so far.

Feralas is BEAST for iron. I started out at New Thalanaar and went counter-clockwise around the bottome section of the map (I used the route that wow-heads spawn location shows). I went around twice in about 45 minutes on a 150% flying mount. Here are my results:

204 Iron Ore
235 Heavy Stone
7 Gold Ore
4 Silver Ore
3 Jade
1 Lesser Moonstone

If you're planning to farm Iron ore, Thousand Needles is a perfect place now in Cata. Even though you can't fly there, there's a boat after a few quests to get you around fairly quick (that goes for people below level 60 / without flying mount / without Azeroth flying) but I suggest picking up the quest that gives you the water breathing / fast underwater movement buff. Al tough it's not as fast as flying, it's quick, saves you mounting up and swimming up-down again, and the best part, since a lot of people seem to think it's a horribly slow way of farming, there's literally nobody farming there.

21 minutes of mining in Southern Barrens as a level 72 Paladin, without Pursuit of Justice, mostly without Crusader Aura, using 280% flying mount, got me:

100 iron ore
17 gold ore
2 silver ore
123 heavy stone
2 jade
2 lesser moonstone
1 aquamarine
1 citrine

Searching along all edges of the map, as well as in the crevices between Desolation Hold and Fort Triumph, and just west of Bael Modan.

Also under the effect of Bountiful Bags and Mount Up guild perks.

Strange to see Wowhead have only 4 spawns in the Badlands. The Badlands was the first place I ever saw an Iron deposit years ago, before Burning Crusade, so that was where my Miner/Blacksmith farmed all of his Iron in the early days. Other than the few spots shown on the Badlands map here, there should be at least a handful more throughout the zone. Much easier to find now that we can finally fly there! Good luck in your mining!

I must say, Feralas seems the place to go for Iron.
In 20 minutes, flying around with Bountiful Bags and Mount Up on a 280% flight speed mount, I got:

150 Iron Ore
171 Heavy Stone
4 Gold Ore
2 Jade
4 Citrine
1 Aquamarine
2 Lesser Moonstone

All of this in 20 minutes? Awesome huh!

I have to say I'm a big fan of western plaguelands for iron ore, its an easy circle to farm. I did one loop around and picked up,

113 x iron ore
141 x heavy stone
5 x Jade
1 x Lesser Moonstone
1 x Aquamarine
as well as a couple of gold spawns.

Feralas is a winner, I did a single circuit of the zone this morning to farm Iron. I got 218 Iron ore, 249 heavy Stone, as well as 4 Mithril Ore, 8 Solid Stone and 5 Gold Ore.
This does differ from a guldmate who hit the zone about a month ago around 7 PM server time and had trouble finding any nodes active.

Are you an alliance character looking for Iron ore? Are you annoyed that the Western Plaguelands are to far from any blacksmith trainers? Go to The Cape of Stranglethorn. Here you will find Booty Bay with a blacksmith, forge, and anvil ready for your use.

Multiple people have said this, and I'll say it again: FERALAS!
In about 20 minutes, I mined:
11 stacks of Iron ore--220 total, folks :O
260 heavy stone
5 Lesser Moonstone. This was definitely the highest rate drop for green gems.
4 Citrine, 1 Jade, 1 Moss Agate, 1 Aquamarine.
8 Gold
14 Silver

I remained in the northern half of the zone, and I only circled around the mountains. No fancy zig-zag routes. I used a 310% mount with Crusader aura (492% speed).

Call me a dork, but I had fun farming this. Spawns are fast and close together, and there's some varied scenery to look at while you're farming 600+ ore an hour. The other non-iron drops are also great for leveling BS with once you reach about 150 skill.

For lower levelled alliance players I would recommend Western Plaguelands since it is easier to get to than Feralas.
I took one tour around the place on my level 50 warrior with 100% ground speed, it took about 15 minutes and I gathered a total of x86 Iron ores.

I would say that Feralas is still a great spot for Iron Ore. I did a full circuit of all nodes (including caves) using the Routes and GatherMate 2 addons. I only have the 250% speed flying with no guild perks and it only took about 40 minutes to hit all nodes.

In that time I got:

265 Heavy Stone
248 Iron Ore
21 Silver Ore
17 Gold Ore
6 Jade
4 Lesser Moonstone
2 Shadowgem
1 Citrine

I didn't see any recent comments, but if anyone is farming this in the current patch (5.3), the Cape of Stranglethorn is also a very good place to farm Iron. And for us Alliance folk, it's a lot easier to get to than Feralas.
