One of 3 types of elite beasts to be trapped using Deadly Iron Trap.

Ironhide Bull - work order produces Raw Beast Hide and a chance at Savage Blood.

The other 2 elite beasts are Wetland Trampler and Direfang Alpha.

ok so i put the trap when it's around 10% of health and it doesnt capture him, what the hell?..

This animal can only be captured with the Deadly Iron Trap, for which you need the level 3 Barn.

As a frost mage, I find I'm able to solo these guys low enough to trap only if I kite or use something like mirror image to keep them from hitting me too much. Once they are below 30%, you can use the Deadly Iron Trap from the level 3 barn to trap them.

To trap one of these beasts, you need to bring their life to 50% or less, not 30% or 10%.

As of right now, those beasts are hard to capture due to their size, I advice to kite as much possible, and even put 2 traps close together to help out.

If you have Barracks level 2 or 3, you should bring a follower with a Bodyguard trait.
With my character being around item level 640, the bodyguard does about 30% of my total damage. This makes the trapping quite easier.

The trick is, get the Clefthoof to walk through the trap rather than just trying to drop it under him.

While in theory it is possible to drop the trap right under the mob in just the right spot, it is a small target zone so kiting the mob through the trap makes capturing it much easier.

BONUS Farming tip: if you group with a friend, you can both drop a trap (close together) and both receive a Caged Mighty Clefthoof!

A tip for melee who are having issues dealing with the damage these guys are putting out (perhaps because you're on an undergeared alt or don't have access to a bodyguard):

When the Bull is channeling Thrash, there is a very small space on the OUTSIDE of the range of Thrash that is STILL IN MELEE RANGE for your auto attacks and abilities. A careful and slow strafe-kite when he starts channeling while you continue to deal damage will nullify the damage of this ability without losing DPS time, making the fight far easier.

The mob will constantly try and close the gap, so it will take a few tries to figure out how quickly you need to strafe for this to work properly.

Its also worth noting that, at this time, stunning the mob while its channeling thrash does not appear to halt the damage output, for whatever reason.

Some general information on how traps work, found out by trying, failing, trying some more and observing.

Traps have a small casting-time after you put them down. It takes about 1-1.5 second and you can hear the *click* from activation. There is a distinct difference between the placing-stage and the activation-stage in how mobs are seen and how the trap responds to it.

Placing a trap in melee range when the animal is already in its range:
- If you put down a trap which activates before a beast is below 50% it will not immediately work and you have to kite it out of the trap's range and back over it again.
- Having it activate whenever a beast is below 50% (even if you put it down whilst it is over) will immediately capture the animal. Tested this with a druid by opening up with either a high crit and dropping down the trap immediately or opening with stuns, without moving the animal.

What I found with the Ironhide Bulls is that when they're standing at melee range, they're still out of range of the trap. I DPS'd it down, put down the trap and then had to walk backwards a bit before it activated.

If you choose to build a Corral as your Nagrand outpost, riding your Frostwolf War Wolf or Telaari Talbuk can make kiting significantly easier.

I found a pretty sure-fire way to trap them with the Hunter class:

Have your pet tank the Ironhide Bull
Get Ironhide Bull to less than 50% health
Put the trap down where your pet is standing (in front of the Ironhide Bull)
Use the pet's "Move" ability to make it walk backwards a bit. This will make the Ironhide Bull follow, walking onto an armed trap.

This has worked pretty well for me this morning. It's much better than trying to place traps under the bull and hoping.

If you put two traps directly on top of eachother (where it looks like theres only one trap) you can get two caged mighty beasts. knockback makes it difficult but practice with placing yourself behind a trap

The best way i have found to trap the Ironhide Bulls is to have your pet tank the beast, at 58% drop trap in front of you then once the beast is below 50% use the following macro
/stopattack
/petpassive
/petfollow
and back up a couple of yards and the beast will come to you and thru the trap and done.
To easily start to trap another use this macro
/petassist
/petattack
/cast Misdirection; Misdirection
/cast Arcane Shot
and it will switch back to assist then MD to pet and then fire Arcane Shot. Hope this helps hunters out and I do this in Survival all the time.

I've found that the easiest way to capture these with low risk of trap thieves is to lure the Clefthoofs to out-of-the-way areas that rarely anyone will pay attention to.

For instance, with the eastern ridge of rocks at 63:30 where a patrol of two Ironhides and one Bull passes by, I've found it easiest to pull the Bull up and around the rocks to 64:31 where it's nicely concealed behind a ridge. There, I can double-trap it in peace with minimal risk of thieves.

To trap an animal, you must bring their health down to 50% or less. If you are high dps, have a pet, bodyguard, or trinket proc ... they will usually die before getting trapped. When you place the Iron Trap , it will sit for a second as it opens. It will not trap an animal during this period. Once it is opened, the damaged animal must walk over it.

I use the macro below to keep from killing them before they are trapped. Bring them to 50% then use the Iron Trap macro (below).

You trap animals (listed on the trap) to get one of the Caged Beast listed below. You then turn them in to the <Barn supervisor> either Homer Stonefield or Farmer Lok'lub. Depending on the type of Caged Beast you bring him, he will offer to start a workorder for:

Clefthoof or Elekk = Leathery Caged Beast workorder produces 8 x Raw Beast Hide

Talbuk or Wolf = Furry Caged Beast workorder produces 8 x Sumptuous Fur

Riverbeat or Boar = Meaty Caged Beast workorder produces 1 x Savage Feast

(Leathery Caged Beast Furry Caged Beast Meaty Caged Beast - MAY BE IN YOUR BANK to start the work order with them. They fit in the Reagents tab.)

With a LEVEL 100 follower working in your Barn (with the Skinning trait), instead of 8 you will produce 12, or instead of 1 occasionally you will get 2. Followers of lower level do not produce as much additional (stated in the tool tip Skinning).

Those of you that chose a Brewery for your Spires of Arak garrison, will have acquired Hulda Shadowblade at the end of your questline for the zone. Those that did not acquire Hulda Shadowblade, will probably need to find Goldmane the Skinner. When you free him you get Feline Friends Forever which rewards Follower: Goldmane the Skinner.

Iron Trap allows the capture of Leathery Caged Beast and Furry Caged Beast.
Improved Iron Trap allows the capture of Leathery Caged Beast,Furry Caged Beast, and Meaty Caged Beast.
Deadly Iron Trap allows the capture of Leathery Caged Beast,Furry Caged Beast, Meaty Caged Beast, Caged Mighty Riverbeast,
adding the MIGHTY:
Caged Mighty Clefthoof, Caged Mighty Wolf, and Caged Mighty Riverbeast.

Leathery Caged Beast,Furry Caged Beast, and Meaty Caged Beast will always give the yield shown above, regardless the level of the animal you trap. A level 90 Clefthoof will give the same production from a work order as a level 100 Clefthoof.

Caged Mighty Clefthoof, Caged Mighty Wolf, and Caged Mighty Riverbeast will give 15/22 instead of 8/12 (without follower/with follower) and have the possibility of Savage Blood.

TRAP MACRO

Instead of Iron Trap mine is now Improved Iron Trap or Deadly Iron Trap. (Everywhere in the macro where it says, "Iron Trap", I have added "Improved" so that now it says, "Improved Iron Trap" -- or "Deadly" and "Deadly Iron Trap".)

Type /macro into the chat window and your Macro Frame will open. There are two tabs at the top, General Macros and <CharacterName> Specific Macros. Click on the Character Specific tab and then find and click the New Button (bottom about center). A side window will open with a lot of icons, and the Red Question Mark icon selected. Leave the Red Question Mark icon as the icon selection and type in any name even a blank space will do in the top text area of the side window. So that I know it is a macro, I always give it some name even an X at times. I named this one TRAP.

Now click the Okay button and that side frame will close. Click on the large black text area to position your cursor into the text field, it should automatically be in the top left corner. Now copy and past the commands below into the window ... just as they are typed:

The first command makes the Red Question Mark icon turn into the Iron Trap icon.
Next is the command that stops your Auto Attack.
Next will put your pet on passive followed by the command to put your pet on follow.

All attacking has been stopped and the last act is to drop the Iron Trap.

Press the save button and the macro with the name you gave it and the Iron Trap icon will be there in your macro frame. Now you just drag it to an action bar (as you would any spell) and go test it out. And now you have made your first macro and have a bit of an understanding, you can go to:

I haven't seen this posted on this page, but you can get double the number of Caged Mighty Clefthoof (2 instead of 1) from each of these. This works for all trapping, but basically if you have two traps on (roughly) the exact spot and put the mob on top of them then they will both activate at the same time and you'll get one for each trap. Sometimes it doesn't work (mainly if the traps aren't on top of each other).

It can be difficult because this mob knocks you back, but you can run back up to where your character is on the edge of the last trap and put a second one down. It's actually easier to wait until the mob knocks you back, put down a trap, don't move, and then put down another one when the cooldown comes back off (15 seconds).

Doesnt look like the Elites can be double trapped anymore, still works on the normals in the same area though.
