Ashstone Core will be one of the new battle pets added in Patch 5.1. It seems it will drop off of Golemagg the Incinerator in Molten Core

This will be one of the pets listed in the new achievement: Raiding with Leashes

Very nice-this is a reason to so do MC besides collect stuff to up your local rep. I know I'm looking forward to doing this old annoying-to-get-to raid again.

I am assuming it drops off as a pet that starts off as lvl 1 like bought/collected pets used to and not a catchable one?

I have to say it, I got this first run. It CAN be sold, like most world pet drops, so I assume that it will be a 30k sell.

Now that 5.1 is Finally live, i can confirm the validity of this Companion pet.

The Ashstone Core drops from the Raid boss Golemagg the Incinerator in the classic raid Molten Core.
I'm not sure what the drop rate is since its very new, but i am just stating that it dropped for me
today on my first try.

It also did successfully get added to my collection and counted towards Raiding with Leashes.

Once added to your journal it will appear as a Level 1 elemental Battle Pet, and is classified as a "Rare" quality pet.

Level One Stats: Ashstone Core.
Health: 158.
Attack: 10
Speed: 12
Quality: Blue/Rare.
First Attack: Feedback. Launches a surge of mana at the enemy, dealing 30 Magic
Damage.

For those wondering about the drop rate, Blizzard recently posted a little more detail. CM Brennvin said the following on a forum post (I added the bold font):

"We believe there was a lot of confusion when we originally announced this change and we're certainly at fault for said confusion. The original patch note was very vague to the point of being misleading. It was never our intent to weaken old raid boss encounters to allow anyone to have a chance to solo them, regardless of class, spec, or skill.

What we did change were encounters that were mechanically impossible for one person to accomplish, solely for the purpose of ensuring players have easier access to the hunt for the new rare companion pets -- the drop rates of which are actually set to account for a group of three players, not one.

Moving forward, though, we do not plan to adjust encounters for tougher raid bosses to be solo’able by all classes and specs."

This pet seems to have a fairly useless set of abilities.
Lvl 1 Feedback and lvl 10 Burn are the same bread and butter dmg just strong vs different species.
lvl 2 Crystal Overload doubles dmg but hurts you, this is only useful when one of the other abilities is a big hit with long cooldown.
lvl 4 Crystal Prison one round stun with 5 round cooldown. You expend a round casting this to get one free round which you could have executed that action the previous round when you cast CP.
lvl 15 Stoneskin A nice solid dmg mitigation. to reduce all dmg you receive (pet attacks, weather, dots, etc they all get reduced).
lvl 20 Instability A higher dmg ability with a cooldown but a high percent chance to miss.

The only slightly useful cycle would be to ramp up Instability with the Crystal Overload, but with the splash back dmg from Crystal Overload and the high miss chance of Instability this seems like a very unstable battle pet. Personally I'm not a fan of using a tactic which has a high chance of not only missing but of hurting myself in the process.

The cooled core of Golemagg, it appears to retain some semi-sentient properties.
