These are not an easy find, but they do exist. I saw none as secondaries, but found 2 as primes right near "Aki the Chosen, Master Pet Tamer" of Pandaria. Both were poor quality but at this point in the game you should have the rare capture achievements, so it shouldn't matter much. HAPPY TAMING FRIENDS!

I was dealing with an awkward phasing issue with Gilded Moths in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This must be a glitch, as I've completed questing in the area, and it was with this battle pet only. I was able to work around the phasing by standing just far enough away that the moths would reappear, and then right-clicking them to battle. Thank goodness the interaction radius is generous to allow for this, as I was able to get my rare relatively quickly.

Does anyone have more info on this Gilded Moth battle pet? I've camped near the grand master getting rid of all other battle pets in the area waiting for ones of these to spawn, it just doesn't seem to be helping.

This pet was difficult for me to find, but not impossible. There was a trick to it, though.

I followed the spawn points listed on the map above. When I finally saw one on my map, I just couldnt find it. They were actually near a middle-ledge of the 52, 36 location. In other words, don't ONLY look on the ground as these guys can fly up in the air.

When I finally spotted it, it flew INTO the mountain. Luckily I have my Interact with Target command keybound. I quickly landed on the ledge, did a /tar Gilded, then pressed my keybind. Even though the moth was flying in and out of the mountain, it worked.

Hope this helps others. I highly recommend keybinding the Interact with Target icon if you haven't yet.

Edit: I should also note they were in a pack of 3.

OK fellow pet collectors... here's the skinny on getting yourself a rare Gilded Moth.

First off, if you don't already know, yes these things appear mostly all over the Vale of Eternal Blossoms map. Mostly around the 2 large lakes but also around the Golden Pagoda. And YES some level 1 battle pets DO spawn also inside the Shrine of the 2 Moons.

For the level 1 Gilded Moths, just use the "/tar Gilded Moth" macro and your Interact with Target button, since they can be in the walls and the floor of the 2nd level sometimes. But this takes too long and is very unreliable, plus your Moth is only level 1.

Now for getting a level 24 Rare, you may or may not have done the quest chains on the but either way your best bet is the lake and surrounding area around the Mogu'Shan Palace. This is becuase even without doing any of the quests in the map, you will still see these Moths that spawn around this eastern half of the map.

But what you want to do is make the groups of 3 moths that spawn around this area, to be Battle pets. What i though was that if i killed the moths that were Critters, they would spawn as a Battle pet... but what i noticed was that the Critters i didn't kill, (other animals than the moths), they would TURN into a Battle Pet. So what i did was amend the plan, and i started killing all the other animals, Critters and Battle Pets, thus forcing the map to make the existing mobs of 3 Moths (the only things i would leave alive) into a Battle Pet Mob. I did this until i had a good few mobs of the 3 Moths and Battle Pets now.

Once i had this, i would do the usual farm technique for any mob of 3 Battle Pets. That is, to Raid marker one of them, and then fight the other 2, and then having those 2 re-spawn in 5-7 minutes as Battle Pet Gilded Moths with new stats/quality.
Then during the 5-7 minutes re-spawn time i would fly around the Mogu'Shan Palace and surrounding area again, killing all the other non-moth Battle Pets and Critters and making myself more mobs of Battle Pet Moths. I did this till i had 4 of the Battle Pet Gilded Moth mobs to farm. This doesn't take too long, but it really does work effectively. Now you may still take some time for the game to be kind enough to you to spawn a pair of Rares (for me it was a bout an hour and a half) but that all depends how lucky you are, and this way gives you much better odds.

Best thing is this way, once you DO find yourself a rare Gilded Moth, you can then call over a friend, or anyone near by that can battle level 24 mobs, to come tame the other one becuase it will be the same identical quality/stats.

Found a set of three at 22:60 just outside of the Setting Sun Garrison. First one I clicked to battle was a rare.

Found a dozen of these all around and inside a mountain between Kun-Lai Summit and Valley of Eternal Blossoms on Thunderhorn realm. Could not interact with them as they were halfway up a mountain with no decent spot to initiate a battle. In the end I tried killing off as many as I could and made a ticket to Blizzard. I have a feeling until they reset the server that when they respawn they'll reappear inside the mountain again.

Found a three-pack at 74, 17, but can't get to them because they're inside the mountain somewhere, and no matter what angle I try, I can't get close enough to interact with keybind. *CRY!*

Edit: Glee! After killing the $%^&ens out of all of the other non-moth pets and critters I got lucky with a pack of pet moths outside of Shrine of Two Moons! Did the same thing as Direbear up top, so while it's a little slow, it WILL show results eventually. And I left the other two for other people, because I'm awesome like that.

For some reason a bunch of these in shrine have taken on the appearance of rabbits and are floating around. I now want a hoverabbit.

I spent some time checking every coordinate listed here and even killing off the striders hoping they would spawn but no luck. I finally did find a group of three of them at 75, 25. One was poor quality, one common and one uncommon. I'm currently hoping they re spawn quickly... We will see.

As of the 6.1 Patch I was able to go to the area around 75,25 and use the group finder to see all the people with auto accept groups for Harrison Jones, DE, etc. Using these groups you can realm hop until you find some that have spawned. Took me two hops but I was able to find a s/s rare and over 9 others of various breeds.

Found them in groups of three at Tu Shen Burial Grounds (44.43, 70.88), east of Mistfall Village.

Could not find any on the locations marked on this map.

Can confirm that around 74.61 24.99 there are Gilded Moths. Found 2 sets of 3's.
