This is a unique boss mob summoned by a player with Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss, which, when killed, drops a Nazjatar Blood Serpent only for the player who summoned it. That said, it seems a group is always needed to defeat the boss, at least as of writing.

Question: If you combine your 20 Abyssal Fragments, use your Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss, summon the Adherent of the Abyss, and then fail to kill it and wipe, do you get to try again with the same Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss, or do you need to make a new one for a 2nd attempt?

Answer: Based on this video from BfA Beta, it looks like the Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss is consumed upon summoning the boss. Whether the boss despawns after a wipe or not, I don't know, as I can't seem to find any videos or other evidence of anyone failing to kill it. Either way, I'd recommend not summoning the boss unless you're very confident that your group can defeat it.

(When the player's bags are open at 5:08, you can see the Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss in the bag immediately above the Backpack, in the 6th row from the bottom and 2nd column from the left. The player then summons the boss at 5:20, kills the boss at 7:35, and opens his bags during the last second of the video at 7:41, showing an empty slot in his bags where his Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss was.)

How to get Nazjatar Blood Serpent

Collect 20x Abyssal Fragment (world drop, but can be traded and found on the AH)
Clicking the Abyssal Fragment takes off about 5k hp after it's used, and creates Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss, can only be used at the Altar of the Abyss, which is in Stormsong Valley at 73.50, 23.61 behind a waterfall. At the back of the cave you'll find the altar.
Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss specifies Offer Abhorrent Essence "Make offering to the Abyssal Flame.
The Abyssal flame is in the mine in Stormsong at Warfang hold at 58.88, 85. Inside the cave you will see a little statue
Warning given: <You feel a crippling fear, making the offering without a group of powerful allies would be unwise>
Go there and summon Adherent of the Abyss

When summoned Adherent of the Abyss will shout:

Adherent of the Abyss drops Aether of the Abyss & Nazjatar Blood Serpent Mount will only drop for the summoner, Aether will drop for all party members (works in raid)
After you used the Aether you can't get it again (quest marker 53477)

Unsolved secret: What does Aether of the Abyss do?
The use effect will cast a purple explosion animation around your character and knock you down. You character will stand up again.
When you check the spell effect for the "on use" Absorbing, it comes up with: Effect Complete Quest (53477)
Possible trigger for later event.

Since no one has yet to say it (and its not listed on the page), the boss has 1.3 million health.

So while you MIGHT be able to solo it, your item is consumed on use. So be safe and just get a few others to help nuke it down.

I defeated this boss in a group of 4: 1 tank, 1 healer, and 2 DPS. Our item levels ranged from 300 to 325. We were fully raid buffed. Frankly, the fight was a cakewalk.

Two tips:

Turn off War Mode. Getting killed by the opposing faction while you're doing this and effectively losing your 20 Abyssal Fragments as a result would be the worst.
Nuke the tentacles ASAP, as they're the only source of damage that could potentially overwhelm your average ilevel 300+ healer if too many are alive at once. Our Arms Warrior + Beast Mastery Hunter were able to handle them no problem within a few seconds of them spawning.

Did the boss today in a raid of 6 people 1 heal, 1 tank, 4 dps. Reading the comments made me nervous about wiping but it was very easy. Just kill tentacles and it's a free kill. Being in a raid instead of a party didn't affect the mount dropping and everyone got the aether.

Hi! Want to share some experience with you.

We killed the Adherent of the Abyss with a group of 5 people, me being 375 and the others around 360. It was extremely easy, as already said here a cakewalk.

After I had summoned the first Adherent, another one in our group summoned aswell, and he got it (if there was any confusion about being saved after a kill, you're not).

Good luck to all, and expect this mob to be soloable by any dps in 8.1.

I killed this mob as an ilvl 360 Vengeance DH with only a Balance Druid for support. No buffs, no pot. Very easy. Self healed myself the entire fight. Cooldowns were only needed as a dps increase. All his spells can be interrupted and he only seemed to spawn 1 - 2 tentacle adds at a time that were downed easily. He also casts a 5 second fear.

I had trouble finding the entrance to the mine, the coordinates given in the other posts put you nowhere near the mine (and other posts seem to copy the same incorrect coordinates).

Here are the correct coordinates:

Mine Entrance
/way Stormsong Valley: 46.46 36.06

Summoning Stone (use these coordinates only when inside the mine)
/way 59.36 54.21

Once you get in the mine, take the second left and then drop down behind the quest orc, and the summoning stone will be on your left.

Soloed with 385 fire mage, but nearly died. Heart was pounding. Recommend bringing at least one friend to ease the stress ;)

Came here to check how it 'looks like' but no Screenshots? Come on people, get that SS to a handy and fast shortcut if it is so 'hard' to do it. Achievement popping out people can do SS but his they don't? Gona have to farm the fragments myself and kill it with my hunter. At least I won't forget the print :P

If anyone is coming to do this with current gear and is seeing all the warnings about needing a group, its incredibly easy at 410 ilvl. Don't see how you could possibly die while soloing.

As of 19.08.2019 the mob is incredibly easy to solo, 440 Havoc DH, killed it in ~25 seconds without dropping under 98% at any point. So don't bother to get a group if at current content ilvl (420+).

Just finally got around to collecting all the fragments and did this fight today. The Aether of the Abyss can be used and allows you to resummon Adherent of the Abyss via a small "Abyssal Tear" hovering in front of the Abyssal Icon. Soloed so am unsure if other players are able to loot this item if they helped defeat the boss to get their own mount. I did confirm that the boss is resummoned and will drop a second mount upon killing it again. Note, the mount is unique and soulbound so it's still impossible to sell unless you held on to the Aether of the Abyss and used it at a later date for a friend etc to resummon.

Just a heads up, as of patch 8.3, I had someone in my group and we summoned and killed the Adherent of the Abyss.

After we killed the Boss, the mount dropped for me, but not for anyone else.

Aether of the Abyss did drop for both of us, but after using, nothing happened.

I resummoned the boss, and after both of us killing, it still only dropped the mount for me.

On the bright side, It can easily be solo'd!

I can confirm that in patch 8.3 this is perfectly soloable. With the gear from 8.3 this is just super easy, no need to get a group.

So go get the mount! :)

Ps, you also loot this item from the NPC, Aether of the Abyss. Hold on to it, it's part of a secret.

I was a little nervous trying this alone as I am a Druid healer and don't use an offspec.
Surprisingly I was able to solo it with current BfA gear. I'm not overgeared and with the new squish I'm only at 113 but was able to kill it alone.
The biggest issue for me was the fear since I really don't have any interrupts.
Just stayed out of the orbs and kept HoTs on myself and was able to whittle him down.
It was also kinda nice because the orcs in the area helped me a bit. :) The area was very small where I was fighting him so it was a little difficult to manage staying out of the orcs while killing the tentacles.
But it was totally doable as a solo healer and now I have a new mount!

This mob was affected by the squish. When summoned he had around 130k health. I was able to kill him with two other people but likely would of been able to easily solo him on my elemental shaman.

If you are worried: the mob doesn't scale up in later expansions, very easily soloable at 60+.

Just to update for current conditions:

I farmed up these fragments on the AH, summoned the mini boss mob on my lvl 70 BM hunter ilvl 337, and it was a joke. Summoned mob is lvl 50 rare elite and has 221k health. Extremely soloable.

Quick guide for busy people:

1. Get 20X Abyssal Fragment off the AH (less if you were insanely lucky to get one during BfA). Cost me 19K in total
2. Fly to 73.5 / 23.6 (behind a waterfall) in Stormsong Valley
3. Click the alter at the back of the cave (this will convert your 20 Abyssal fragments into a Abhorrent Essence of the Abyss,
4. Now fly to the mine entrance 46.4 / 36.0 in Stormstrong Valley
5. Now navigate to the Summoning Stone (back and left of the mine) 59.5 / 54.2
6. Click the Summoning Stone then 2 shot the boss with level 500 Dragon Isles gear
7. Mount will drop into your bag
8. Link mount into Guild chat to receive the appropriate 'Grats'

I just purchased 20 fragments and followed the steps. Adherent of the Abyss did NOT drop the mount and it was NOT placed in my bags, despite me summoning it. This appears to be a bug.
