New Database Page: World Events!
Here at Wowhead the developers are working hard in order to release the new features you folks have been waiting for, and today we have a new feature on the database to show you all: the World Events page!
Each World Event page is like any other database page. It contains any and all data—i.e. items, achievements, quests, or titles—pertaining to the event (where applicable), and a place to leave comments as well as submitting screenshots. You can also
search
for world events.
In the Quick Facts box, you'll find information on how long the event will be running and a link to Wowhead's guide to the event (usually written by
Miyari
).
The entire World Events page is divided up into four sections for ease of use:
Holidays
,
Recurring Events
, and
PvP Events
.
As we go, we'll be adding articles at the top for the individual world events. Aside from that, the only things missing are
your comments
, so now's your chance to get going! Feel free to also leave any comments about this

5th Battlecry Mosaic Tile Unlocked!
Yes! Another tile has been unlocked for the
Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic
, which you saw us post about
last
at the beginning of this week. The picture count reached
5,018
which unlocks the new tile but also unlocked a piece of art -- this time, it's a piece done by Samwise which depicts the gathering of the tribes as seen on the cover of the Warcraft RPG book "Manual of Monsters".
We've already reached 1/4 of the way there, but we still have
14,982
pictures to go. So why don't you head over to the official
Battlecry Mosaic
site and submit a picture?

Q&A With Tom Chilton at Champions' Carnival in Taiwan
Tom "Kalgan" Chilton, the Lead Game Designer for World of Warcraft, was in attendance at the recent
Champions' Carnival
in Taiwan.
While he was there he had a
Q&A session
with players at the event and some of the questions covered current and future armour tiers to the future of arenas and even a little about Cataclysm.
Read on after the break for the full Q&A.

Algalon vs. Arthas?
You know, I've long since glossed over the concerns of various power levels of bosses in WoW. The fact that
two
random
worms
somebody caught in the hills of Northrend can kick the butt of
C'Thun
stopped bothering me a long time ago, so I don't think that's the problem I have with the placement of the
Algalon
fight.
So, with the fight with Arthas finally on the horizon, I've been thinking a lot about the road leading up to it: specifically Ulduar, and the fight with Algalon the Observer, and something about it just rings false with me.

Interview With Samwise: Pandaren Brewmaster Deluxe Figure
As most of you might know
Sam "Samwise" Didier
is the art director over at Blizzard. In this interview they talk about the process in designing the exclusive
Pandaren Brewmaster Deluxe Figure
and they also mention pandarens past, present and future.
If you really like pandareans or just like looking at Samwise's artwork (I know I do!) you can read the interview after the break.

Interview With Lead Game Designer Tom "Kalgan" Chilton
Over at
wow.gamona.de
, an official German fansite, they had a chance to have a chat with Tom "Kalgan" Chilton who is the Lead Game Designer for World of Warcraft. They touch on a lot of things including everything from player housing (no it's not in the plans) to Cataclysm and the the future.
There is even mention that there may be a
content patch before Cataclysm
but it won't be like a major content patch and could contain class balance fixes, bug fixes, implementation of new Battle.net features, and maybe even a new raid boss? A new Wyrmrest Temple boss? Who knows.
Read the whole interview using the link below!

Shadowmourne Shards Not That Rare?
People expecting
Shadowfrost Shard
to have the dismal drop rates of
Fragment of Val'anyr
(about 5%) will be pleasantly surprised by the drop rates discovered on the official World of Warcraft Armory.
The shards themselves are required for
The Splintered Throne
which requires you to gather 60 of them to create
Shadowmourne
. The good news is that the drop rate is
25-50%
in Normal (25-man) and
51-99%
in Heroic (25-man).
This information was pulled from the Armory page on
Shadowfrost Shard

New Information About the Magazine
Some of you may remember a while back a
blog
I had posted about the new
World of Warcraft Magazine
that Blizzard was producing. When I and the other customers ordered the magazine, Blizzard had given an estimate of 8 - 10 weeks for delivery. Unfortunately, it has been overdue.
Just a few minutes ago though, I received an email regarding the magazine. If you purchased your magazine but failed to receive an email, then this information is relevant to you! Even if you didn't purchase a magazine there is a surprise!
Dear ,
Thank you for subscribing to the World of Warcraft Official Magazine! We're hard at work putting the finishing touches on our debut issue, and we're excited that we'll soon be able to share all of the cool features and community-centric stories we've put together. In the meantime, we'd like to give you a sneak peek at the wrap-around cover of the first issue, featuring a confrontation in Icecrown Citadel that's been a long time coming — and as a "thank you" for subscribing and for your patience while we wrap things up, you can down

3rd Tile In the Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic Unlocked!
As mentioned
several
times
in the last few weeks, the
Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic
picture submissions have once again increased in number, to 3,128 out of the 20,000 image goal to complete the mosaic. Since we've gotten another 1,000 submissions, Blizzard has unlocked another tile and a piece of art on the site to drool over—this time, it's concept art of the ruins of Dalaran in Alterac Mountains!
We've still got
16,872
pictures left to gather, so why don't you take a picture with your faction's emblem and send it in over on the official
Warcraft Battlecry Mosaic
site?

Second Gate In Icecrown Citadel Will Unlock In 28 Days
After defeating
Deathbringer Saurfang
in
Icecrown Citadel
it has been discovered that speaking to your faction's NPC (Muradin or Saurfang) will tell you how many days are left until the next gate's unlocking. Right now it is listed as 28 days which would put the unlock date for North American realms on
January 5, 2010
.
If these numbers stay consistent between wings we most likely won't see the Lich King until
March 2, 2010
. I know it sounds like a long time but maybe this will allow them to test and tune the encounters a bit before we hit those dates and allow a lot of people to catch up so everyone has a larger pool of players to work with.
Update 2:
It seems our assumption that the rest of the gates will be on 28 day timers was wrong. Daelo has just corrected us and the extra long wait on the first gate is because of the holidays.
As noted in game, the release of the Plagueworks in Icecrown Citadel occurs 28 days after patch 3.3.0 was released. After the Plagueworks is available, you will then wait less than 28 days for the next

Icecrown Citadel: The Lower Spire (Feedback Wanted)
Long time no see in the blog, eh Wowhead? I've been working on a few projects on the site (one of which you should see now, and one - soon) and my finals week coinciding with the new epic patch didn't exactly buff my free time. But it's mostly over now, and I should have enough time to post interesting stuff again! However for now you are stuck with the same old boring stuff - bosses :)
With the new patch out, I've made some tweaks to the boss pages. The coolest thing for me are the new tabbed abilities - now each difficulty has its own section, reflecting all the little things that make this difficulty level unique. I think that's pretty cool feature - and it looks really neat too! :)
The boss pages have the basic overview of the fights for the Lower Spire, but I have also included shorter versions of kind of "to go" tips here. And with this we get to the core question of this blog:
Do you think the overviews are sufficient/redundant, and if you could change something about the boss pages design, what would it be?
Please look at the list of bosses after the break and post your thoughts!

Realms Are Slowly Coming Up?
Looks like Blizzard is slowly turning on most realms after the release of Patch 3.3, as of right now 63 out of the 241 North American realms have come up (including my own.) Hopefully the rest will begin to come up rather Soon™.
You can check out the realm status page
here
or view the actual login alert screen
here
(only when there is an alert will this page show anything.)
Edit:
Or not? Still a lot of people getting locked out of their realms. We'll see.
