Artifact Traits and Legion Legendary Effects Returning in Battle for Azeroth

Blizzard

For traits that go beyond simple numerical changes and have their own identity—such as active abilities or the powerful and noticeable procs—we are on the lookout across all specs for a small selection of traits that are worth turning into permanent parts of a class. The bar is high for a trait to become permanent. It’s an intended part of the experience of a system like Artifacts that the bonuses are layered on top of the core functionality of your class. You get to explore those bonuses thoroughly, but eventually move on from them. That leaves space in the permanent classes for new special bonuses from other systems in the future, as we’ll soon be exploring with Azerite Armor. That said, various specs will likely see one or two familiar traits from Artifacts showing up in their talent trees in Battle for Azeroth.

Demon Hunter

The Legendary Anger of the Half-Giants became the new talent Insatiable Hunger.

The artifact trait Overwhelming Power was incorporated into Chaos Nova.

The artifact trait Wide Eyes was incorporated into Eye Beam which now has a lower cost in BFA.

The artifact trait Fueled by Pain was turned into the talent Gluttony.

The artifact trait Fiery Demise was buffed and turned into the talent Charred Flesh.

Druid

The main artifact ability Essence of G'Hanir had its effects baked into the Flourish talent, which had its cooldown increased to 1m30 to accommodate that buff.

Hunter

The legendary Qa'pla, Eredun War Order likely inspired the new effect on Cobra Shot

The artifact trait Hati's Bond gave the appearance of having multiple pets out and the new talent Animal Companion allows you do to so.

The artifact trait Healing Shell was buffed has its utility available via Natural Mending, with Exhilaration instead of Aspect of the Turtle as a trigger.

The artifact trait Terms of Engagement was turned into the talent Terms of Engagement.

The artifact trait Embrace of the Aspects was turned into the talent Born To Be Wild.

Mage

The artifact trait Rule of Threes likely inspired the new talent Equipoise.

The main artifact ability Phoenix's Flames became the new talent Phoenix Flames.

The legendary Koralon's Burning Touch has been turned into the talent Searing Touch.

The legendary Marquee Bindings of the Sun King has been turned into the talent Pyroclasm.

The artifact ability Ebonbolt has become a talent.

The artifact trait Freezing Rain has been turned into the talent Freezing Rain.

Monk

The main artifact ability Strike of the Windlord likely inspired the new talent Fist of the White Tiger.

The artifact trait Tornado Kicks likely inspired the new talent Tornado Kicks.

Paladin

The main artifact ability Wake of Ashes became the new talent Wake of Ashes.

The legendary Whisper of the Nathrezim was modified to Righteous Verdict.

Priest

Lenience is an artifact trait turned into a talent.

The artifact trait Cosmic Ripple is now a talent.

The main artifact ability Void Torrent became the new talent Void Torrent.

The legendary ring The Twins' Painful Touch likely inspired the new talent Dark Void.

The multiple Mind Blast charges given by the legendary Mangaza's Madness are now given by the talent , which also increases its damage.

Rogue

The effect from the class legendary Mantle of the Master Assassin is now the Assassination talent Master Assassin.

The artifact trait Bag of Tricks became the new talent Poison Bomb.

The artifact trait Loaded Dice is now a talent.

The artifact trait Shadow's Whisper has been incorporated into Shadow Techniques.

The effect from the class legendary The Dreadlord's Deceit has been turned into the new talent Hidden Blades.

Shaman

The main artifact ability Stormkeeper became the new talent Stormkeeper.

The artifact trait Volcanic Inferno likely inspired the new talent Volcanic Rage.

The artifact trait Doom Wolves likely inspired the new talent Elemental Spirits.

Warlock

The effects from the legendary Hood of Eternal Disdain likely inspired the new talent Creeping Death.

Warrior

The main artifact ability Warbreaker became the new talent Warbreaker.

The legendary ring Ayala's Stone Heart had its effects transfered into the talent Sudden Death.

I second this losing Hati is going to suck big time there are two threads on the forums asking to #savehati the first one capped all many of us want is a way for Hati to remain in game.

Best way would be a Gara type quest this way those who hated him can ignore it while those who want Hati can keep him as a pet doesn't matter if we lose the two pet option so long as we #savehati.

I have heard "rumors" that it might be coming back as a talent. This is just what I have heard and have no hard proof of it at all. And while rumors are just that, rumors, it's all the more reason to think it's possible till they say otherwise.

No Rage of the Sleeper? Damn that's depressing. That's such a satisfying weapon ability it's going to be depressing to lose. Feelsbad for Guardian Druids.

Same thing with Blood DKs weapon ability. I really like the idea that it buffs people's attacks to leech. I hope that becomes incorporated into a chance passive or a talent.

Actually, the tier effect from Siege of Orgrimmar was turned into a talent which was turned into a legendary which is now being turned back into a talent. get yer facts straight!

Still really hoping to find the Affliction passive Soul Flame remains where it is. Nothing changed the way affliction felt more than that ability in Legion. Its a grand visual in a spec that has few things to look at and an AoE addition that was a massive help in group content.

I hope this list is incomplete. Some of the more fun and interesting legendary effects that aren't on it:

Havoc DH: Achor, the Eternal Hunger (better sustain)
Druid: Ekowraith, Luffa (larger attack radius)
Warrior: Timeless Stratagem,Weight of the Earth (pure fun)

Those are the only three classes I know well, but each of those lego's is currently chosen in Legion to change/augment the class's playstyle in important ways.

What are good ones from other classes worth keeping?

It seems absurd to me to take abilities and passives that the specs are balanced and designed around having, then just stripping them away, either to be removed completely or to be made into talents.

This ability your spec revolves around and you've had baseline for almost 2 years? Yeah, that's gone, because we think taking away from a spec will make it more fun. But don't worry! You're getting great new stuff, like talents! Tier 7 Talent #3: Your Previous Artifact Ability and/or Artifact Trait that was baseline! Hope we didn't remove one of the talents you liked to make room for it.

Why not just add a new talent row, and allow us to choose from our passive artifact traits that affected our gameplay, give us the abilities baseline like they should be, and give us MORE to play with in BfA.

In before the Blizzard apologists say it's just alpha, like that somehow excuses these terrible changes. ALPHA IS THE TIME TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS STUFF.

If they do ditch the moon (please, for the love of Elune, NO) they will probably just have SW/LS generate more AP to compensate. Still, the rotation feels so perfect right now.

Are the effects of Legion legendaries being completely removed or can we keep them in the bank for things like Timewalking? I had been hoping to keep Aggramar's Stride on my Paladin just for the speed boost they give on transmog runs in old dungeons.

We don't know yet. My personal assumption is it will work like the WoD Legendary ring and the effects will diminish starting at 111, to the point of being just a stat stick at 120.

I'd be okay with this. It would make the legendaries still worth getting now, because they'll be useful for another 7-ish months plus however long it takes you to level that alt.

If we just lose them, then the wakening essence grind isn't worth it.
