The example given was Highmountain Tauren, one could imagine you'd be required to do the Highmountain questline and have some reputation with the Highmountain Tribe.

Doing these requirements on your main character replaces the "level 1 starting experience." Through completing certain content, you prove your worth and bring the seasoned characters from Allied Races into your faction.

The demo included new areas in Stormwind and Orgrimmar with options to recruit varied Allied Races. This will likely lead to a questline showing how you win them to your faction.

The Allied Race starts questing at level 20.

Lightforged Draenei likely involves some form of Army of the Light Reputation and completion of part of the Argus Story.

Void Elves, led by Alleria, likely also involve the Argus Story and perhaps reputation with Argussian Reach.

Nightborne likely require some Suramar Questing and Nightfallen Reputation.

Q: Currently no allied races can be Death Knights. Are there any plans to change this?
A: Because the experience with allied races begins at 20 and hero classes (DK’s and DH’s start out at a much higher level) it does present a hurdle that will need to be overcome. This is still something being considered for some of the allied races (such as Dark Iron Dwarves for example).

void elves will have a short-range teleport

Ooh! Now I wanna roll a Velf mage just for triple blink! (Assuming they keep Shimmer as a talent, of course)

Sooo, but does this mean if I did the Argus storyline and rep grind on Horde I have to do it all again on Alliance?

Being a DK main since early WotLK I would appriciate having the option to play any of the new races as Death Knight for sure. Not to mention that my second most-played class is Druid, and currently I'm playing in Alliance, so this is a bit disappointing so far. =/

Here is with hope that the first 4 come with 7.3.5 and the revamp of the leveling exp.

I'm not sure if I've missed it somewhere else, but I wanted to know if you can unlock your opposite factions' allied races? Can I as an alliance unlock the ability to have a Highmountain Tauren? Or do I need to fully level a Horde as well? I mean, I have exalted highmountain rep on my main (and same goes for all the other factions mentioned.)
Just curious about whether or not they'll still be gated in some way.

That was going to be my same question, but faction reversed. I REALLY dont want to grind all of those on a second toon. :(

edit: ALSO, even if this IS the case, would that just mean if I hadnt done these on said faction, would the only penalty be NOT starting at level 20 because if thats the case - LOL, "big deal"; Ill level 1-20 if it means not having to grind these out on a toon I just rolled/leveled in order to experience the other side of the story and then dump halfway through an xpac.

Double ALSO, I thought they would have learned their lesson when they gated profession quests inside mythic dungeons.

Comment by perculia

If they seriously gate them behind reps from a previous expansion, I will be both shocked and appalled. They would face serious backlash for it.
It takes less than 2 hours to level from 1-20. It takes literally months to reach higher reputations with Nightfallen/Argussian Reach. I seriously doubt rep will be the prerequisite. If it is, sub numbers will plummet to the F2P range.

It could be something like friendly, the Highmountain Tauren example didn't say Exalted. Friendly seems pretty doable with factions. Or maybe each faction has completely different requirements!(##RESPBREAK##)2##DELIM##perculia##DELIM##

The ally races will come out when the new xpack starts.

Comment by Smirx

That's a bit hyperbolic don't you think? At worst the rep gate to Exalted doesn't take months. Tedious and time consuming? Definitely, but not months. I imagine it would be more in the range of Friendly or Honored. If they are requiring the story part you'll get that along the way.

Comment by brarrais

These "gate" requeriments should be to unlock the creation of lvl 90 allied races chars... How about give some prestige to players who actually played the whole expansion on multiple toons?
"Veteran" players could have some love by not having to lvl all the way from 20 to 120.

ugh i really was hoping for a highmountain pally druids and sham is well filled with trolls : |

Comment by turbosac

I wonder how Lightforge Draenei can be shadow priests and Void Elves can be holy priests or discipline...

Comment by moofox6

Really wish there were a Shaman option for the Alliance races. I would wager a guess that Dark Iron might be a candidate, but that might take them releasing Wildhammer Dwarves to become possible.

Comment by frozenembers

Or maybe they will give us the info on how to unlock, and we can work on it before the xpac is out, giving us something to do toward the end of legion. then it's not us going back to the last xpac, unless you just didnt do it while you could have.

Comment by Exaltys

I wish I could be a Nightborne or Zandalar Paladin.

Comment by snowcloak200

Why would the allied races be able to be dk? Pandaren can't. Same reason, too...

Comment by Darkur

It would be nice if Nightborne could be Demon Hunters.
They have plenty of fel empowered units and characters to take note form, lore reasons to both have powers of the Legion and to fight against demons.

Comment by Inappropriate

I hope the Nightborne voice lines are not as annoying as the Blood Elf ones, maybe then I can play it.

I think 7.3.5 is probably a bit early, but I would love to see a repeat of how people who preordered Legion got to make DHs early. The sooner I get moose antlers the better.

7.3.5 could easily be the last significant patch before 8.0 and as such, it would be the patch to put pre-order unlockables. Alternatively, the plan might be to give us the races in 7.x if BfA development is proceeding too slowly and they want to avoid a content drought and accompanying sub loss. We should know in a couple of weeks once 7.3.5 hits the PTR.
