Mists of Pandaria: Fishing and The Anglers Guide

Pandaren Fishing

The skill level required to catch these new fish without junk in most zones is 625. You can fish in these areas with lower skill, but you'll have a greater chance to catch junk. 625 is above the skill cap, but you can reach it with lures and other boosts.

If you don't want to take your weapons off to fish, you don't have to now. A default pole will show up if you have weapons equipped--good for PvP servers.

Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm is a rare item from a ghostly mob in Valley of the Four Winds that increases your fishing haul!

In 5.2, if your fishing skill is too low for an area, you will catch Golden Carp instead of junk in Pandaria.

In addition, there are three quest-related fish: Flying Tiger Gourami, Mimic Octopus, Spinefish Alpha. These can be turned in to get friendship with Nat Pagle (see below).

Tiny Blue Carp (Tiny Blue Carp) : Aquatic; These little guys only live in the clear, magical waters of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Dedicated fishermen can sometimes befriend one.
Known locations: Open waters in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, also fished up in Crowded Redbelly Mandarin pools during Angler's Event.

Fish of the Day Event

There are nine possible locations that Ben of the Booming Voice by Halfhill can send you to.

Each location has unique pools with special names that rapidly respawn and allow you to catch a certain Pandaren fish easily. Each location corresponds to a different type of fish.

Finally, for flavor, there are many Angler NPCs milling about, including Salty El! Specific fishing areas may have additional neat details, such as sprite darters casting arcane bolts at the Jade Lungfish site, or baby Reef Octopi jumping around the Reef Octopus site.

In addition, there is one "large" pool that will summon an Krakkanon, similar to The Lurker Below. He drops 20 of the area's fish, as well as a chance to drop Nat's Fishing Journal and fish for Nat Pagle. He has nearly 20 million HP and casts Gurrggggle and Shpshhh.

Woods of the Lost, The Jade Forest: Jade Lungfish. Special pools are called Glowing Jade Lungfish because Sprite Dragons shoot arcane bolts at them.

Fields of Niuzao, Townlong Steppes: Redbelly Mandarin. Special pools are called Crowded Redbelly Mandarin which makes sense due to the tiny pond they spawn in.

Stormstout Brewery, Valley of the Four Winds: Emperor Salmon. Special pools are called Brew-Frenzied Emperor Salmon, which makes sense based on their proximity to the brewery.

Krasari Falls, Krasarang Wilds: Krasarang Paddlefish. Special pools are called Swarm of Panicked Paddlefish, most likely due to the Goblin NPC throwing dynamite at them.

Mad Qao Pao, Vale of Eternal Blossoms: Jewel Danio. Special pools are called Glimmering Jewel Danio Pool, since Mad Qao Pao, a very blingy Pandaren, periodically makes wishes and throws coins into the pool. This is removed in Patch 5.4.

Binan Village Coast, Kun-Lai Summit: Tiger Gourami. Special pools are called Sha-Touched Spinefish and the water has an oily appearance.

Sri-La Village, The Jade Forest: Reef Octopus. Special pools are called Reef Octopus Swarm and baby octopus run around the docks.

Gokk'lok Shallows, Dread Wastes: Giant Mantis Shrimp. Special pools are called Tangled Mantid Shrimp Cluster, as "Stuffed shrimp" sharks and seagulls periodically eat them.

Master Snowdrift's Pagoda, Peak of Serenity: Tiger Gourami. Special pools are called Tiger Gourami Slush, and nearby trainees cast blue bolts at them.

Angler NPCs

By Krasari Falls, you will find a goblin NPC on a raft throwing dynamite at the fish. No other Angler NPCs were present.

In Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Mad Qao-Pao wears Midsummer Reveler with Crown of Empowered Fate.

Angler Johnny Rotten: an Undead wearing Rogue Tier 2 and using a Bone Fishing Pole.

Angler In Bo Den: a Pandaren wearing Shaman Tier 6.

Salty El: El from Els' Extreme Anglin' fame, wearing her usual Blue Overalls and Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat.

Brother Shallowpond, a grummle, and his pet yak, Fishbreath.

Angler Dry: a Troll wearing Druid Tier 6, using Pandaren Fishing Pole.

Fisherman Crow: an Undead wearing Mage Tier 3, using a Pandaren Fishing Pole.

Snapclaw: Kill Snapclaw in a cave at the bottom of Narsong Trench and return with his claw as proof.

Viseclaw Soup: Kill Viseclaw Fishers on the beach and return with 16 eyes to make some yummy soup.

What Lurks Below: Find an Ancient Fishing Pool at Krasari Falls to the northwest and fish in it to lure the beast out of hiding.

Call me crazy, but I love this warm weather! I always felt like an outcast back in Borean but I think this new climate is going to work out great for me!

Well, times were getting tough up north. While the scourge problem has been dealt with, we are constantly on the move and looking for food. I decided it was time to head out and find some new fishing grounds!

After almost a week at sea, I ended up here. Good thing I packed a few crates of pickled herring for the trip!

Darkmoon Faire

In Patch 5.2, a new fishing hat was added to the Darkmoon Faire: Darkmoon Fishing Cap.
This hat has a very very low chance to be caught around the Darkmoon Faire--so you can only try for it one week out of every month.

It gives +5 fishing skill, and during the Faire, can summon Shipwrecked Debris.

This gives people a lot of stuff to do in MoP, instead of raid once a week, then wait until they're reset next week.

All of the work involved is going to be lots of fun. I love daily quests, and I love to work really hard on my toons.
