2010/12/15 at 9:42 PM
Today's Cataclysm hotfixes have just been posted! Notable changes include:
will no longer receive twice the benefit from the Feral druid Mastery
Mastery: Razor Claws
's mana regeneration component has been increased from 1.5/2/2.5 to 2/4/6%.
's mana regeneration component has been increased from 10/20% to 20/40%.
) Troll druids in particular, when shapeshifting into Cat/Bear form, were dealing an extra 5% damage to themselves via Beast Slaying when afflicted by
's Asphyxiate. This caused them to die instead of being taken down to 1 health. This has been corrected and Asphyxiate now properly ignores damage modifiers.
) The quest requirements for the achievement To Hellfire and Back have been lowered for both Horde and Alliance characters. Horde characters need to complete 86 quests and Alliance characters need to complete 76.
Obsidum Ore now spawns slightly less frequently in Mount Hyjal.

Another day, another batch of hotfixes! Blizzard is clearly working around the clock to correct issues players are experiencing since Cataclysm, and I must commend 'em for it, even though they
been stealth nerfing things here and there.
Some noteable changes/fixes include:
Players should always be properly granted credit for completing the "Defending the Rift" quest event. (Vashj'ir)
Guild experience caps were being hit faster than expected. As a result, guild experience gained through questing has been reduced. (
See our blog
The droprates on all Bind-on-Equip items in Cataclysm dungeons have been reduced.
Disenchanted green items are now giving more materials as the item levels increase. This change also ensures armor items give dust more often than essence, and that weapons give more essence than dust.
and most importantly
Sheep packs no longer instantly respawn. (Uldum)
That's right, no more straight cheesing

With many players already reaching max level in the new expansion, we thought you guys might want a review of all of the amazing Cataclysm reputation rewards available! There are also a few profession-related changes, including some reduction of node density for gathering professions in specific zones, and apparently "Fishing skill gains were increasing too rapidly past 500 skill and have been adjusted." The undead armies of the Lich King have been vanquished, and the campaign in Northrend has come to an end. Now Azeroth faces a new threat, as Deathwing the Destroyer has burst forth from the heart of the Maelstrom, unleashing widespread devastation upon Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, champions of the Alliance and Horde must embark on a quest that will take them from the World Tree to the bottom of the Great Sea to the elemental planes themselves, looking for a way to bring an end to Deathwing’s reign of ruin.

Guild Achievements No Longer Reward Guild XP
2010/12/07 at 4:42 PM
Nethaera posted on the official forums a little while ago to let us know that
guild achievements no longer reward guild experience.
This is a pretty significant nerf, since guild experience is capped on a daily basis—and up until recently, guild achievements were able to reward experience bonuses
above and beyond
the daily cap.
It looks like the result of this was that guilds were leveling a lot faster than Blizzard intended. See the the full post after the break.

First Round of Cataclysm Hotfixes Now Live!
2010/12/07 at 3:08 PM
Blizzard have just released yet another (huge) batch of hotfixes for patch 4.0.3a, addressing post-Cataclysm release bugs. Many specific quest issues were addressed with this patch, so if you were experiencing any problems check to see if it's been resolved! Not too many major changes, though if you were wasting time killing the opposing faction's flight trainer instead of bothering to experience new content, Blizzard has made it a bit tougher for you.

Cataclysm Launch Event Gallery
2010/12/07 at 2:15 PM
So I'm home from the Cataclysm Launch Event!
it was a great time last night, lots of people there. One person said there were over 9000—but I realized later that may have been a joke. I even saw a lot of people who I had seen two years ago at the Wrath release event—I even ran into John Finch, the guy who was first in line last year. He said he'd arrived 48 hours before, and was still only 20th in line.
Once again, I want to thank Blizzard for NOT being the kind of company who tries to create buzz by not having enough copies of the game at launch. I wasn't there until about 7pm, and I still got a Collector's Edition. :)
This whole process has been kind of nostalgic for me, because for those of you who've been with us for a while, you may know that our discussion and picture gallery of the original Wrath launch event two years ago was actually our very
of blog posts. So with that in mind, I leave you now as I left you then, with the most important part of the whole process:
Player and Guild Experience Changes in Cataclysm
2010/12/07 at 12:55 AM
Blizzard has made some posts clarifying some of the new experience mechanics in Cataclysm. Firstly, (as intended)
guild experience will be capped on a per-day basis
, meaning that your guild will not gain experience after a certain point until the next day. Apparently, the EU realms went live without the cap enabled, but corrective measures were taken and guild experience was reset for some guilds.
once you reach the max-level for an expansion, you will only gain 10% experience from killing NPCs from that expansion.
In other words, once you hit 80, there will be no AoE grinding of squishies in Northrend to try to level to 82 or higher. You can still get full experience for
, but you'll need to move on to the Cataclysm zones to get full experience from NPCs.
