After taking a look at some of the leveling guides available for Jewel Crafting in TBC, you may want to start stocking these asap.

The guides suggest getting around 40+ ready in order to level JC.

I've spent the last FOUR hours using the drop rates and pickpockets listed here on the site, and i've received a grand total of ZERO gems. I've resorted to mining/prospecting them now. If you are stuck in need of these, good luck, and i hope to god you dont have to spend 4 hours farming them. I picked every pocket in ZF, soloed many mobs in BRD on my rogue, opend all the relic coffers (finally found a use for all thoese keys i've had for over a year! lol), pick pocketed many mobs in brd as well. I've collected almost 10g from pick pockets (and u get about 1-3s on average per mob).... l did manage to farm 3 firey enchants and several boe blues though, and some shards i can sell. So really, just farm your ass off, save them, horde them... if your best friend asks you for one, say NO!

**update, its 9 hours later. and i just prospected over 200 mithril ore. I got 7 aqua's... /wrists.

This is used as the choke-point(?) of JC, expect to spend upward to 6-8+g each (at least, on my server it was) I used 105 total, that is about 1/3 of what it cost for me to level JC entirely.

For those who want a quicker alternative (and maybe a few gold cheaper) you can try http://www.wowhead.com/?item=20964 until 215, then change to http://www.wowhead.com/?item=21758 - The panther is unique, and BoP, so you will need to vendor it/destroy it before you can create a new one.
Aquamarine Signet: 210 ->215 (5*3 = 15 aquamarines)
Figurine - Black Pearl Panther: 215 ->225 (4*10 = 40 black pearls)

Black pearls were going for 2-3g on my server, making total spent in this range to be 170 - 240g, however without the black pearls (45 aquamarines) it would be 270 - 360g (not including the flasks of mojo) Another thing to consider, is the money you get from reselling the aquamarine signets, if you don't care about the money then buying whatever is available (making a combination of both) works.

From prospecting:
Mithril ore: 1-2 Star Ruby (34%) 1-2 Aquamarine (34%) 1-2 Citrine (33%) Large Opal (3%) Blue Sapphire (3%) Azerothian Diamond (2%) Huge Emerald (2%)
Iron ore: 1-2 Jade (34%) 1-2 Lesser Moonstone (34%) 1-2 Citrine (33%) Aquamarine (5%) Star Ruby (5%)
Tin ore: 1-2 Moss Agate (38%) 1-2 Lesser Moonstone (38%) Shadowgem (37%) Citrine (3%) Jade (3%) Aquamarine (3%)

So if you need some of the above gems, prospect what you have first before buying the gems off AH

If your server's economy is anything like my server's, it is easier to farm gold and buy these on the auction house. An hour of mining the badlands and prospecting all the ore netted me 3 aquamarine total, which sell on the auction house for 8-15g each. I can net 200g/hour farming burning crusade instances. Easier to just buy them.

On my server (Skullcrusher) these are stupid high. Been going for an avg of 25g per gem.

Can anyone confirm that these still drop from Mithril Deposits while mining? I spent about 3 hours mining Hinterland, got 150 mithril ore, and plenty of Citrine, Black Vitriol, and Star Ruby's, but not a single Aquamarine. I'm wondering if these might have gotten pulled from the drop list in one of the recent updates.

Aquamarine sells for 18g on my server and i need 3 for each ring and i have to make 10 in order to get a new design from the treiner...

3x10=30
30x18=540....

+ all the flask of mojo i need (4 flasks pr ring sells for 2g each)

4x10=40
40x2=80
80+540=620

620 frikkin gold just to get 10 skill ups o.O you gotta be kiddin me >.<

Tried selling aquamarines for days for just 4gold each and a week later didnt bother anymore. No one seems to be buying them on my server anymore.

The Jade Eye is, at least on my server, a MUCH cheaper alternative to get up to 215.

After that, you're pretty much stuck, though. Unless Citrine happiness to be plentiful on your server.

After Prospecting 20 Mithril Ore, I ended up with 2 Aquamarine, 3 Citrine, and 1 Huge Emerald, just now. So, if you can mine Mithril and are patient enough, you can gather Aquamarine for yourself this way. :-)

I'm going to add a comment to this post, as I have not seen it mentioned. JC is a hard profession to make money at. If you buy the ore to level fast, you will be a long time getting a return on your investment, unless you are only leveling JC for the profession perks.

Now, about aquamarine and leveling. This is actually a very good item to level with. Aquamarine Signets. They all have +20 attack power. Pretty useless to a caster, so sell the intel/spirit rings at a low enough price that the attack power doesn't matter. Usually I can get 15g on my server, more for straight intel (around 35 - 50g). Now, the agility and strength procs, I sell for 150g each. As well as str OR agil +hit. Reason? Hit is bloody near impossible to get and is a major loss in dps, especially for hunters, rogues, warriors, particularly rogues. For pve players at this level, that means very little, but for PVP players... those are highly sought after items. I usually sell mine within hours of listing them.

Don't worry about undercutting the next guy for a few quick golds. These will sell! I will even overcut prices if there are a limited supply, or buy them out and resell if the seller was stupid enough to price these to low.

Just as an example, I spent about 20 minutes or so mining mithril, got enough to make 3 rings. I wasn't actually looking to make money by selling the rings, I was looking to get a +intel process. I didn't, but i did get 3 prime cuts, straight agil, straight strength and +8 agil / +8 hit, (a hunters dream!) and numerous other gems which i will either save for later, give to guildies leveling jc or just sell them in ah. I always make more for gems than I do the ores i burned to get them, simply because I will not sell for less than the cost to make an item.

It should also be mentioned, remember to save your stones that you get from mining. You can get a lot of levels very cheaply making the various stone statues. Stone usually sells very cheap in AH, mostly from miner / blacksmiths that have enough grinding stones, and want to get a little extra for the stone and help someone else level at the same time. Otherwise, most would just vendor the stone or drop it as they mined. I would estimate, that just from making stone statues, I gained about 120 to 160 levels, they are so cheap you can make them til they go grey and get every level you can for next to nothing.

Are the prospecting rates still accurate? If so, I have terrible luck. My rate from prospecting mithril was nowhere near 35%.

I'm currently leveling jewelcrafting and IMO the best way to gather enough of these is to mine for mithril ore in Thousand Needles and prospect for the gems. There are plenty of veins, not many NPCs and I gathered enough in a little over an hour.

Prospecting one stack of 200 Mithril Ore yielded:

14 Aquamarine
15 Citrine
15 Star Ruby
2 each Blue Sapphire & Large Opal
1 each Azerothian Diamond & Huge Emerald

I also found 1 aquamarine and 1 citrine while mining, plus around 250 Solid Stone and 5 Black Vitriol.

Mithril can be farmed in several zones; Burning Steppes, Thousand Needles, Felwood, Badlands, and Searing Gorge contain the most nodes. Competition and route convenience can vary wildly.
