NOTE: This can only be caught during fishing tournaments which are 2pm-4pm server time on Sundays. If you lookup droprate on other sites, they can't account for this so the droprate looks horribly low. It's not as hard as it looks. If you are collecting your pimpadelic fishing gear - the quest reward will be your headpiece. :-)

Fished most often from Southern Savage Coast and Wild Shore in STV.

This is a pain in the arse to find, but if you have the patience to deal with the fishing tournament gank squads (if you have those on your server) then go for it.

The reward for quest is http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19972

That item is BoP so you can't sell it. No level requirement for reward.

It should be noted that this fish, along with the rest of the tournament fish, only spawn in the 'Tastyfish' pools.

there is a bug with the fish loot when the "looting this item will bind it to you" comes up
dont shift click the bobber or it will go away. in meaning you cant catch any of the 3 rare fish because of it or it cancels and will go away make sure you dont hold shift for the quick loot system!

From my point of view being a 19 twink doing this quest I am finding that the best place to fishing with no enemies around is at (26.1, 67.6) and (27.1, 67.7)

i still havent actually caught the fish but im going off the map above and there are like 0 enemies near those spots...
Actually there is one... a Bloodsail Raider, Id just have a higher smack him up then go onto fishing...

This item is part of the Stranglethorn Vale Fishing Competition. Which takes place every Sunday between 14:00 and 16:00 Server time.

These are the items that can be won if you are the first person to hand in 40 Speckled Tastyfish to Riggle Bassbait in Bootybay.
Arcanite Fishing Pole and Hook of the Master Angler.

Once someone has won the fishing competition, you can still hand in your remaining Speckled Tastyfish to Jang in Bootybay. (repeatable quest)

Waiit wait wait..... the fish is a green item, is it possible to get this by a need roll in partyloot? :O
(also meant, is there hope for a level 1 twink concerning the lucky fishing hat?)

logged in at 1:57 server today on lvl 14 orc hunter on Dragonmaw, swam from grom'gol to yojamba (about 10 minutes) 2 pools visible. got ganked 3 times in a row and wasn't able to get a single cast off. said screw it and logged, left house, drove thru mcdonalds, ate lunch, then stopped at grocery store and bought some steaks for dinner. got back home and logged back in, 3:53server. 1 pool visible, caught this fish on first cast! as a note, yojamba isle is by far the best place for twinks to fish this up.

I am at 312 fishing. Always have bait. I fish in the Pools of Tastyfish. I have been doing this for 8 weeks and not 1 single of these fish. Am I doing anything wrong or am I just really unlucky?

Hey, i am making level 19 twink and i tryed to get the Keefer's Angelfish at STV today - i fished in 1 hour but didn't get it.... its tuesday and i watched some other comment and i saw that some other did ask "its only at sonday you get it from 2-4pm? I ask same question so please comment :)

Keefer's Angelfish must be fished in pools of speckled tasty fish during the stranglethorn fishing extravaganza between 2 and 4pm server time on sundays. This fish is extremely rare. My 19 warrior has been fishing this for almost a year and finally just got it last week. Right as I hit 300 fishing skill too. Good luck all on catching this rare fish.

fished 2 hours one week and caught 4 (not the ones i wanted) of the rare fish, while in a group. next week i fished 2 hours and caught zero. just want to double check that this fish can be caught while in a group. i remember some weird quest fish that could not be caught while in a group from wotlk, i think it was the quest fish in wintergrasp.

Hi, this is not hard to get. I got mine on my twink in about 2 minutes, just make sure you use shiny baubles and have 150 fishing. It's quite easy.

I tried to catch this fish today, Sunday 2-4pm. Reading a little more about it, it seems like these rare fish only appear in the fishing schools. Reading even more, I found out that a "fishing school" is not what I thought, but it is just something like a swarm of fish. Finding something like that is rare and that in an area where it is full of beasts or red humanoids is almost impossible. I managed to fish once in such a swarm there and got one tastyfish after two hours. Also I got killed by a player called ßoxxy all the time. She's a level 20 twink and could block all my ranged attacks, so I had no chance. Even when I fled immediately on sight, she killed me. I have no idea if it is such a fun killing a weaker player 20 times in a row (feel free to revenge me, Sporeggar server). But in short, as a low level player, it is impossible to get this Keefer's Angelfish. Also, impossible to win the tournament (was finished after 20 minutes today). You probably need a fast mount and be at least level 40 or so.

UPDATE: I tried again today during the tournament. I tried more in the north, in Northern Stranglethorn instead of Cape of Stranglethorn. There fishing was possible (I got killed only five times overall). In this Yojamba Island it is a good place, but there was only one such pool, so I had to continue. I was fishing during two hours, lots of swimming and some ghost-running and I got 108 Tastyfish, 3 Stonescale Eel, 4 Stranglekelp, 13 Oily Blackmouth, 12 Firefin Snapper, but no Keefer Anglefish. If I catch every week 108 Tastyfish and chances are 0.04% as listed, then it would take 23 weeks to catch one (statistically at least).

Provided that the fish has a 0.25% drop chance:

Drop chance overall: (1-0.9975^n tries)*100
So, if you fish 300 times, your chance to get this guy is about 50%

I just spent 2 hours fishing specifically for this fish. I caught 177 Speckled Tastyfish, 15 Oily Blackmouth, 2 Raw Spotted Yellowtail, 10 Stonescale Eel, 12 Firefin Snapper, 12 Raw Rockscale Cod, 3 Raw Rainbow Fin Albacore, 1 Sealed Crate, and ZERO rare fish. /smh

Week 2: 194 tasty fish....ZERO rare fish

Week 3: 144 tasty fish....ZERO rare fish. Admittedly I lost some motivation when a winner to the tournament was announced at 2:01 server time. I also noticed only about half the fishing pools I normally see.

Finally got my Angel Fish, it took about 5 fishing tourneys of non-stop fishing, as well as 3 Striped racers and a Queenfish before it finally showed up.

I always fished up and down the west coast of north stranglethorn because I'm only lv 20.
Then today about an hour in I decided to have a go on the east coast where the bloodsails are. Found the Angelfish in the second pool I came across, it was actually some wreckage just round the cape (Bloodsail maybe).
Might just be a coincidence, but I must have fished about 400 tastyfish on the other side and got nothing, yet I swapped to the east coast and found it almost instantly. :/

Same problem here. Fished four weeks in a row got 8 other rare fishes, than moved to the east part and catched my Angel Fish after 5 trys.

As a trial account (level 20), I’ve gotten 5 Keefer Angel fishes and saw one caught. Here is what I learned in thousands of casts.

Second to the last toon took nine weeks of fishing 1 ½ hours (I waited until the tournament was over). Last toon took seven weeks. None of the other ones took anywhere near that long. What torture!

Never got anything in the cove just south of Grom’gol. There are always fishing pools there but nothing from them. I got three on the coast just South (where the creatures are all skulls). You can see Grom’gol from the fishing spots (west of the cove).

I got two Keefers (and saw one caught – arrrggh!) North of Grom’gol, up the coast to the Zuuldaia Ruins up North specifically outside Bal’lal ruins up to the outcropping that points at the Island with the Lesser Water Elementals.

Nothing caught at Yojamba Isle. Nothing caught on the island with the Lesser Water Elementals.

Bottom line, the percentages are a joke on Wowhead. If they are true, the percentages are overall for everyone fishing and not the individual fisher.

Also, I see it stated in other posts that you should fish to the last minute of the tournament. I concur. It seemed that at least four of the rare fish I caught were caught on the last 10-20 casts. I’m thinking that if the percentages are tied to everyone, then there are less people fishing at that time so you have a better chance of getting something if you are the only one fishing. Just my opinion though.

I kept getting the worthless rare fish over and over (boots and line). This might not be true, but if you get one, don’t turn it in (they don’t expire) and keep it in your bags. Maybe this will prevent you from getting another of the same kind of rare fish, but I’m just guessing.

1 out of 1250 for Cape of Stranglethorn, 1 out of 2000 for North Stranglethorn, and 1 out of 2500 for Stranglethorn Vale. Did a little math converting the percentage to fraction. Still have yet to get this fish but I did get the 2 other rare fishes three times.

This fish can be found in Schools of Speckled Tasty Fish AND Mixed Ocean School. The drop rate is 0.03%-0.08% depending where you fish it.

Don't lose faith in the final moments of the tournament! Last week I decided to try out the STV fishing tourney....finally got 1st place and the pirate ring, so I thought I'd press my luck. Keefer's Angelfish at literally the very last minute of the tournament was one of the best moments in my twinking career :D

This rare fish still drops during revamped Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza.

Current event bugs:

If you finish main quest for 40 Speckled Tastyfish (or just get these, but not finish), then you'll have "no loot" effect during fishing.
"No loot" effect occurs when system try to get you another Speckled Tastyfish, but you already have 40 Speckled Tastyfish or already finish quest.
What to do? Just continue to fish and, if you have good luck, you will get your rare fish (or some trash items, heh).
You get your rare fish, but unable to get your reward from Fishbot 5000
All you need to do - just cancel NPC dialog (close it), then open it again. Repeat X times, until u get NPC dialog with repeatable quest for your rare fish. Done!

I get Keefer's Angelfish 4 weeks ago on my rogue 19 lvl. Still no luck at my cloth-twinks, sadly.

I caught this from Mixed Ocean School around 14:33, after the event ended at 14:15. As others stated, i didn't get fish from schools after the event is over, but kept fishing and eventually got it.
