For lower levels those are true, but due to my non-streamlined quest finishing method I've slaughtered the Sheinor villages multiple times now. For myself, they seem to actually drop more light feathers than either the above when I farmed them.

The added benefit, if this is just luck, is the Shienor offer Netherweave, Runecloth and the reputation quest items Arakkoa Feathers. So you can make a decent buck farming light feathers for yourself.

Another great place (at least for Horde) is The Screeching Canyon southwest of Freewind Post in Thousand Needles. If you're not strictly farming light feathers, you can get a lot of wool and silk cloth off of the harpies to sell on the AH for some extra bonus cash.

For those of you starting Undead or Blood Elf mages - keep in mind that *nothing* in the Eastern Kingdoms north of Loch Modan drops Light Feathers. You'll have to hit Durotar or The Barrens to farm these up early on.

Best ever place to farm Light Feather is The Charred Vale in Stonetalon Mountians. Crazy fast respawning time (3 mobs usually appears in 1 place in 5 secs) + hunter 1-shoot them 95% of time.

If you farm the moonkin in Darkshore, you'll also get small egg's which are used for (and sell nicely during) the Winter Veil quests.

There doesn't seem to be any reason to keep these around anymore: the quiver made with them is obsolete, and the spells for which it is a reagent can be made free of cost with minor glyphs. But, if you're interested, as Vandett points out below, the Goretalon Roc drops 3-6 at a time, making it the best farming around. If you are too low level, you should head to the harpy cave in Thousand Needles at 27.3, 51.4 (due west of Freewind, south of the Great Lift). The harpies here respawn quickly.

I'll second the Barrens route... got 3 stacks with a few to spare in around two hours, with a good amount of wasted running time (I was very inefficient in my route), without a mount. Two stacks an hour should be easy.

Why is it that the shaman reagents, Fish Oil and Shiny Fish Scale are so easily gathered during normal playtime but this reagent is never seen?

I see so many of the shaman drops all the time while running instances or doing dailies, light feathers should be just as common.

The BEST place to farm this is in Sholazar Basin from the Goretalon Rocs. I mean really! you can get so much! I get about 2-3ish average from this guys per a roc, sometimes 6 per a kill!

I got drops similar to what vandett mentioned off of Emerald Skytalons in the Emerald Dragonshrine in Dragonblight. 12 Feathers in about 3 minutes.

There's tons of them, and they're all really close to each other.
I lift my hat off to you if you manage to kill all of them before you have respawns.

Post-Shattering the drops have changed! Based on above comments I tried to farm a few areas.

Harpies in northern Barrens now drop Plucked Feather

Goretalon Rocs now drop mostly Sericeous Down, though about every 5th one would drop 2-5 Light Feathers, not worth the effort though

My best luck was the Shienor skettis around Terokkar, about 1 in 3 dropped a Light Feather.

For low level Alliance, the Bloodfeather thingies (harpies, sorceresses, etc.) in Teldrassil seem to have about a 25% drop rate and respawn like crazy. They are located just to the west and southwest of The Oracle Glade (right next to it - and there's a vendor there, so you can kill a bunch, go to the vendor, clear bags, go back, kill more, etc.). They also drop linen cloth. They're around levels 8 and 9, so it's great when you're a lower level. Also, this is right outside of Darnassus.

While farming heavy leather in Dustwallow marsh, I found that the noxious reeper's or w/e they're called... the flying lizards things :P drop them pretty well, and they're all over the place. Great spot for farming.

I have been farming for my mage, and I have to say, the Oiled Fledgling drops 3-5 at a time, it only took me 15 minutes to get three stacks. They respawn rapidly and are in groups of four. An 85 hunter can one-shot them with Multi-Shot

Excellent area to farm Light Feather - Borean Tundra (helps to have a higher lvl 'toon) in the Geyser Fields, the Scalding Pools. There you will see all of the oil-covered deer, wolves, and ... oil covered Hawks! The hawks are always in groups of 5; 4 hawk fledglings plus one full-grown, aggressive adult hawk. The adult will NEVER have a Light Feather, don't even waste your time looting it but you must kill it anyway, it will always attack you. However the 4 fledglings will VERY often drop from 2 to a max of 6 Light Feathers per fledgling.

Only 3 of the oil pools have groups of hawks, each of those three pools will have 4 flocks of hawks, ignore the other pools. By the time you clear the last oil pool of the 4 flocks of hawks, the first pool will have conveniently re-spawned new oil-covered hawks. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Tooltip in-game says it is a reagent for Class: Battle Pets. It also still lists it for priest and mage spells. I have been holding on to the ones I have because of the listing that it is a reagent for battle pets. Maybe it's for something coming that we don't know about?

Well, in my main LW character I had learned how to make Quiver of a Thousand Feathers pre-Cataclysm, and now he still knows how to make it, although it is a generic bag now, and I decided to farm the Light Feathers I needed to make 4 of them for an alt (396 in total) , just for nostalgic reasons.

I tried the Scalding Pools in Borean Tundra, as someone suggested, killing the packs of Oiled Fledgeling. I have to admit that this is REALLY the best spot to farm the feathers. Sometimes I took over 10 from a pack and the respawn time was about 1 min. I collected the almost 20 stacks i needed in less than an hour. That place rocks:))

Above level 60 & Leatherworking 350, Light Feathers are junk.
According to comments, they are no longer required for Levitate or Floating.
The Silver Quill cannot be made because one of the reagents cannot be obtained by players.

I came here, as of patch 7.1.5, wondering of there's any use for these items now, and I mean any! Turns out that they can still be used by the leatherworking profession to make some blue or rare gear. However, the Jade or Black Pearl requirements for those pieces would make any leatherworker, even those who don't read online guides, disregard the possibility of making those items to level up leatherworking. And I don't think those blue items are even unique for transmogrification. So my conclusion for today is that, even for pack rats and hoarders, this item is as trash-worthy as trash comes really. Blizzard might as well make it grey and get it over with by now.

I disagree with yusuf (I realize their comment is two years old)

I am currently selling Ironfeather Shoulders for 1700g each and Ironfeather Breastplate for 1000g each (the market values are substantially higher, but I am happy with this profit margin)

I recently sold a Wild Leather Helmet for 20,000g ... the Wildvine are 4000g each on my server so I take the time to farm my own (which is painful) but worth the effort when the product sells.

I firmly believe that there will always be a market for the old gear, at least that has been my experience since I started playing when The Burning Crusade was released.
