Dropped off a Bladespire Lookout in Frostfire Ridge, right after I started my Garrison. I had 600/600 fishing and after learning this, I was 600/670. Probably a world drop.

ETA: I am currently able to fish and have leveled fishing to 602. Not sure if other professions can be leveled yet (I'm a tailor/chanter, none of the greens I've picked up can be d/e'd, blue quest items are d/e'ing into Ethereal Shard, and I have yet to pick up any cloth.)

Thus far, I have caught:

Small Crescent Saberfish and Crescent Saberfish ... filleted into Crescent Saberfish Flesh

Small Sea Scorpion and Sea Scorpion ... filleted into Sea Scorpion Segment

The fishing bobber has a MUCH better glow now.

This is a world drop that grants you the profession (if you've never taken it before) and puts your maximum skill up to 700 (Draenor Master), regardless of what your current skill level is.

~~For Horde, The Bounty of Bladespire rewards the items to start all the primary crafting professions.~~ Looks like Blizzard removed that quest, thus changing how you acquire these items. I received them before I had finished the Bladespire Fortress quest line with my most recent character. The quests are two or 3 steps long and the final reward is an item you click to enable Draenor crafting as well as the level 1 blueprint for the related garrison building.

Fishing Guide to Draenor and First Aid in Draenor both are found while fishing (as well as world drops) and Brittle Cartography Journal is found while digging. The remaining profession items -- The Joy of Draenor Cooking, A Compendium of the Herbs of Draenor, A Treatise on Mining in Draenor and A Guide to Skinning in Draenor are random drops from out in the world. They do not have an associated quest, you just right click to learn the skill to the new Draenor max of 700.

NOTE: you can gather before you find these items, but if your skill is already level 600 you won't get any skill ups until you use the appropriate item.

I'm not sure, but I threw about 20 casts in my garrison fishing hole and all I got was Construction Debris. Then I floated down to the ocean (Priest Levitate) behind the garrison and got it on the first cast.

So you probably can't get it in the garrison itself. Go try any body of water not in your garrison.

Fished (on first cast) from 'open sea' when first stepping onto Glacier Bay in Frostfire Ridge after fishing four casts from a Sea Scorpion pool.

I got this on both my Paladins on the FIRST cast while doing the level 94 fishing quest you get to open your garrison fishing.

Note, my second Pally only had 440 Fishing and could not learn Pandaria Fishing, but could and DID use this item to change fishing skill to 440/700. Completing the fishing quest was fine, and I was 445 a few casts after I caught the 5th fish.

I was tracking the achievement and was shocked that I got it when I went over 200 recipes with these non-cooking recipes. I suppose a recipe is a recipe is a recipe.

My wife was getting really annoyed because she could not get this after doing a fair amount of fishing. We ran down a list of possible causes and then figured out she had only fished in pools. She tried some open water and got it right away.

Moral of the story: make sure you hit open water to get your fishing guide :)

Since the size of the fish is based on your fishing skill in Draenor, the closer to 700 you can get when you first start out fishing in Draenor, the more "enormous" fish you'll catch and the less "small" fish you'll catch.

Use the appropriate bait, of course, but....

If you already had your fishing skill up to 600 before Draenor, and you took the time to get both the <Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole>] and the <Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat> in previous expansions, you can get your effective fishing skill level up to 700 on your first cast in Draenor. With the appropriate type of bait (based on which type of fish you want to catch), you should catch mostly "enormous" some regular, and very few -- if any -- "small."

Once you no longer actually needed a fishing pole to fish, I'd put both of those items away in the darkest recesses of my bank. It's worth it to bring them both out again.

The quest suggests you fish the waters, but I didn't catch any of these till I tried a lava pool. Got bait on first cast, and the rest was easy.

You can't get this by fishing in your garrison. Just drop a line in the nearest body of water (outside your garrison) and you should get it quickly.

Been fishing for hours and have yet to get this. If I had already looted this my max Draenor fishing would be increased to 700, correct?

Looted the fishing guide after an hour give or take a few minutes farming Shadowmoon Voidmancers in Shadowmoon Valley.

As of 28 January 2021, I had no luck getting the training item on my horde alt in the garrison pond, went to Warspear to pick up other stuff, fished in the waters there and got it first cast.

I thought I would post a Draenor leveling update for Dragonflight (Patch 10.2) . I leveled a character from 1-100 in fishing in a level 1 garrison in about an hour. The only thing I caught was Construction Debris. I used a Dragonflight +15 rod. It never required more than 2 Construction Debris per level. My results are below:

1-10: 1 per level
11-75: 1-2 per level
75-100 2 per level

Level 30: 47 casts
Level 50: 82 casts
level 60: 103 casts
level 70: 120 casts
level 80: 138 casts
level 90: 158 casts
level 100: 178 casts

Total 178 Construction Debris caught , maybe someone can share if catching fish produces the same result.

Sooo... Hit lvl 100 fishing and yet to have this drop. Killed 100's of mobs and fished open waters for about a 1000 times. Fishing shack is lvl 2 and quests in fishing shacks are done. Any help?
