I want to play on this class since 2007 ^_^!

some people have been saying "It's lore breaking for other races to be Demon Hunters" Theres no truth to that. This xpac it would be lore breaking, but if they give it maybe 2 xpacs, and give the other races a different starting zone where they are being trained, then it fits. The people who act like other races ever being demon hunters as lore breaking are just mislead about that. Demon Hunters originally were self taught, back when NOBODY used fel magic, it would be very easy for races like Orcs and humans to learn. Paladins are Priest with Warrior training, Demon hunters could just have knowledge of fel magic and Rogue training.

Info from gamescom:
Blizzard also showed off a new hero class, the Demon Hunter, which seems to be based around Illidan. The developer says it will show us "the story of the Demon Hunters, the Illidari, through the eyes of Illidan." When beginning a new Demon Hunter character, players will actually play through flashbacks going back to the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade expansion.

Demon Hunters will start at a high level. In addition to their regular abilities, they'll have the ability to morph into a more powerful demonic figure, taking on the form of the enemies they're hunting. Demon Hunters will only have two specializations rather than the normal three. The havoc spec will be damage-focused, and the vengeance spec will allow for tanking.

For those not swapping to a Demon Hunter, players will encounter a new system called "Class Orders." This will put each player's character in charge of an organization based around whatever their class is. As an example, the shaman conclave will overlook the Maelstrom, the paladin templar sanctum will be beneath Light's Hope Chapel, and the warlock enclave will exist on a Burning Legion portal world.
Class orders will include a champion system that Blizzard said would build on the follower system from the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Champions will be non-player characters who help your cause. Blizzard promised they will be more active in the world in this expansion and with more interaction.

Blizzard also said it had done a "disservice" to dungeons in World of Warcraft and promised more dungeons and more replayability in Legion compared to previous expansions. A number of these dungeons were discussed, including Eye of Azshara, Darkheart Thicket, Suramar City and the return of Violet Hold, a Dalaran-based dungeon previously seen in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

The first raids announced for Legion include the Emerald Nightmare, a twisted version of the Emerald Dream where players will search for the legendary druid patron god Cenarius and fight the evil Xavius. A 10-boss raid called Suramar Palace will also be included, which will culminate in a fight against Gul'dan.

While we're still waiting on news about a release date or timeframe for World of Warcraft: Legion, Blizzard sent out a press release saying that a beta test is scheduled to begin "later this year."

Male Night Elf Demon form looks... odd. Not in a good way. I mean if it's meant to represent a tank spec - that i can tolerate, but if it's a regulard demon form...

Also DH must fly with their wings. Must. Because Illidan could. It wasn't floating, it wasn't gliding. He flew.

So help me God, if we're allowed to fly in demon form (Ala druid's flight form) most players will be offering blizzard their firstborns!!! O_O

Dominate your foes as a Demon Hunter, an elven outcast shunned for daring to wield the terrible powers of the Legion.

Only the elven races (Night Elves & Blood Elves) will be able to be Demon Hunters

Comment by Kliamovich

Will they be able to wield Warglaive of Azzinoth and Warglaive of Azzinoth?

Comment by Tanyon

What I'm confused about that it says, it's not part of the alternate timeline and Guldan is freeing Illidan from his prison.......but in order for Illidan to have became a Demon Hunter he had to absorb his powers from the Skull of Guldan. So how can a dead warlock be alive in our regular Azaroth and freeing Illidan? It's still part of the alternate timeline.

Comment by 1336016

Unfortunately it sounds like Metamorphosis will be a limited duration rather than a toggle form. I was hoping to spend my time as a Vengeance Demon but I guess it makes sense because Blizz never lets us have ALL the cools... But seriously, still a cool looking class. It's unfortunate there aren't restrictions for the class, nothing to prove who REALLY wants the class versus who just wants an alt sitting in their roster. EVERYONE's gonna have one and no one's going to feel special snowflake until 6 months afterward and it gets nerfed.

Comment by 208304

/sigh. So i have to put up with 99% of the horde being BELFs for months again. This was already bad enough when we got that ^&*! race to start with. And now I can't be a Demon Hunter either. This saddens me greatly!

Comment by 1489478

While I am excited for Demon Hunters, I've really been hoping for a new ranged class that can use all those sweet guns, bows, and cross-bows besides just Hunters. Oh well, keep my fingers crossed for the expansions to come. And will definitely be giving Demon Hunters a try once Legion launches.

A friend and I were talking last night in bnet, and we came up with instead of making another ranged weapon class similar to Hunters. What would be really cool is since Hunters are getting a melee spec (Survival) in Legion that Rogues get a ranged weapon spec at some point in the near future. Rogues have had a some interesting ranged abilities now and in the past. As well as being able to equip throwing weapons, and ranged weapons.

Idk about you guys, but I wouldn't mind playing a ranged ninja. Even make them only medium range for balance reasons, so melee have a chance to close the distance before they stealth into the shadows again...

Comment by Delininteki

are they hunting demons or demons who hunt?

Comment by Xuldarinar

Im so excited for this class. I simply cannot wait for legion to come out. Alright, some questions that I am left to wonder about.

Will we be able to change our horns and blindfold or will those be as set in stone as skin color is at present?
Will demon hunters have any use for the Garrisons? For instance, with the level 3 scrapyard, will they have a set for them that comes from there as every other class does?
~~What will the names of their weapons be/Will they even have names?~~Answered
~~Will they obtain their artifact weapons as part of their starting quest chain, or will it be a separate quest later?~~ Answered
Will there be any retroactive sets (Dungeon, Tier, PvP, ect.)? While there is no precedent for a new class, there is a precedent in level 60 blood elf paladins for adding a lower level set than the cap in which they came in at.
Talents. I am curious what sorts of things will appear among their talents. For instance, will we as demon hunters be able to summon fel fire elementals to aid us, as a cool down of course. I can see this as a talent, or something tied to the artifact, but not likely as a default ability of either havoc or vengeance. (at least partially)Answered
Warglaives: What will their place in transmog be as a weapon type? In essence, will glaives be compatible with other weapon types for the purpose of transmog (and will we get glaive weapons following legion), or will they fall in the same group as daggers and fist weapons? For that matter, will the Warglaives of Azzinoth be changed to warglavies or will they remain as swords?
Player perceptions. In essence, rp wise, how are others supposed to feel about the demon hunters joining them in their fight against the legion.
Speaking of roleplaying implications: what will this do to those people already Roleplaying as demon hunters?

Comment by GooBrains

I was curious, at a RP standpoint... What are the possible ages of the Demon Hunters? Are they old from BC time or are they new DHs that were trained recently?

Comment by whitehusky

I remember doing that Easter egg quest in Darkshore (where you have to fall into the whirlpool) and killing the Demon Hunter ghost. I got an achievement for it and shared the story with my guild. I told them I was wondering if it's a hint that Demon Hunters were coming in the next expansion. I'm glad to see I was right!

Comment by 1526450

Wow somehow manages to be fun in different ways each time you play a new class. The only pitty here is that at level 98 you will skip some content that otherwise would be fun to do with a demon-blooded-double-jumping-hasty-gliding-killing-machine... Just hope timewalking will be expanded.

Comment by 1413910

why only 2 races? blood elves suck. Lore-wise, demon hunters are practically extinct. If they're suddenly seeing a huge revival in numbers thanks to the burning legion invasion, it'd make sense for more races to join in. If they're sticking with the "these guys are ancient" story, then it doesn't even make much sense for them to be blood elves. and if blood elves split off after demon hunting developed, then wouldn't it make sense for them to still have druids too?

Comment by BoomBoomReturns

They really should have had the Demon Hunter be a Cloth class. They wear as little and as light as possible for ease of movement and speed, Leather isn't exactly the lightest and most flexible of materials. Plus it would be cool to have a melee agility-using Cloth class.

Comment by Tykes

Inb4 every Demon Hunter starts calling himself something similar to Illidan.
I know Maiev Shadowsong is the real Demon Hunter here.

Blizzard employee 1] So what if we combine two classes?

Blizzard employee 2] Like feral and hunter?

Blizzard employee 1] What? that's completely insane.

Blizzard employee 2] (huff) what about monk and lock?

Blizzard employee 1] Perfect, now what do we call it?

Blizzard employee 2] Demon hunter.

Both employees] (turn to each other and nod)

So commences the story of why they put in a Demon hunter.

Comment by 1535614

okay so why does the demon hunter start off directly at 98, i mean that's cool and all but we miss a lot of cool stuff to do, i know they said they want us to be able to jump right into the legion content but does that mean the lvls are going to go up to perhaps 110? whats the item lvl going to go up to? i think its cool but i wish they could be humans
too.

Comment by scruffymurph

The relationship between:

* when demon hunters become available (before the overall launch of Legion)
* the time it takes to level from 98 to 100

could mean that there are a lot of level 100 demon hunters waiting around.; presumably some of those are going to pick up the quests and go to Draenor while they are waiting.

Comment by Bixbyite

Will you be able to choose your faction like the pandas can?
How cool would it be to have a Night Elf Demon Hunter on the Horde side.

Just a note, I am an older player that started playing WoW several years after it was first released, but I have been playing TSR's Dungeons and Dragons since it released its first editions of books back in the day, so my perspective is from the more creative and long term style of gameplay and is what I believe should be the focus of any fantasy roleplaying game.

Blizzard has done a great service with Legion. Lore is the most important factor in any fantasy roleplaying game helping keep the continuity of the game true. All of the veteran WoW players I have seen, across all servers, have become entitled like most of today's generation since the first release of WoW, feeling that taking things back a bit is a hindrance to their style of gameplay or lives. But if Blizzard took into account every single individual's style of gameplay, WoW would have been a fad that died a long time ago.

Blizzard's go to answer should always be, "What does the lore say?" not "What do the players want?". Otherwise the game would become nothing more than any other first person shooter on today's game consoles.

Some players comment on Demon Hunters starting at level 98, but we have to remember Blizzard increased the level cap to 110 and the lore should be the driving factor of that and how long the average player, not the uber player's, play. Also, Legion brings us back into our current timeline and out of the past which is where WoD's timeline is based.

The Demon Hunter class was thought out pretty well except for maybe the talents, abilities and specialization, but we will have to see how that plays out once the expansion is released. It just seems some of the DPS damage is a little, not a lot, but a little low and the tanks damage are two high and but should have a higher resistance to damage. Afterall the Demon Hunters do sacrifice their eyes and consume large amounts of fel energy. The Sin'dorei were and will always be right.

I'm sure the super, duper, uber players will try and crucify me for saying such things but as I always tell these players when I run into them (you can always tell who they are, they are the self righteous, hypocritical bastards of WoW, who believe that all other players of their class and race should play the way they do), it's not you, it's about the lore and creative gameplay.

I hope everyone can look past their own keyboards and monitors and truly look into the lore of Legion and see that Blizzard is not trying to get you to cancel your subscriptions, make you unhappy, or "take away your toys" leaving to crying, whining and stomping your feet like a fat kid being told by his fat parents in Walmart, "You can't have that."

Comment by Eighjan

Quite a few comments here have missed the point of where & why Hero Classes (seem to) get introduced into the game.

Playable Death Knights came with the transformation of Arthas Menethil into The Lich King and the general fleshing out - so to speak - of the Scourge.

Death Knights in game were heroes of the Horde/Alliance, raised to undeath to fight for the Scourge, so when they became playable, they followed that ethos but with the twist that they were able to 'redeem' themselves to regain favour with their former Faction... requiring the 'blessing' of the overall Faction Leader to be accepted back into the fold.

So; to Demon Hunters - during the War of the Ancients*, the Burning Legion brought Demons to Azeroth & thus Demon Hunters were required to find & kill them. As the main seat of the Legions' coming occurred in Elven lands, it makes sense that the only Race(s) - in LORE - that would have been recruited AS Demon Hunters would have been... ELVEN.

As History progresses, Elven society devolved into what we have now; NIGHT Elves & BLOOD Elves, thus cementing - in LORE - that these are the only two PLAYABLE Races eligible to be Demon Hunters.

Further to this - & echoing what @ClanFuryan said - there are some aspects of the game that Blizzard should have the 'unchallengeable' power to say to the QQ-ers, "It's our game, we set the rules... don't like it, go play somewhere else." & Core Lore is one aspect where the QQ-ers should have no tenable foothold for getting their way. If Core Lore of Warcraft is allowed to become flexible at the drop of a hat generated by a mass mob of whiners, then surely Blizzard are undermining their own game ethic.

As to the starting experience of any particular Race/Class... that, again falls under the banner of "It's our game, we set the rules... etc" - no-one says you 'have to' play every Class &/or Race... you, the player, make that conscious choice. IF, for whatever reason, you find anything about how that choice gets you into the game & what resulting feelings those around you have as a result of that choice... SO WHAT...? It's YOUR choice, no-one else's.

Death Knights started at L55 & Demon Hunters look like they'll be starting at L98 - nothing to stop you, the PLAYER, going back into older content to play it, to gain your own perspective of your new Hero Class; true, massively old content is painfully easy, but it's still there to do should your inner RP-er feel the need to succumb to a personal Loremaster calling... but that would get me onto a/c wide achievements, and that's way too OT.

TL; DR... Demon Hunters are 'initially' going to be what Blizzard want them to be, not us as players.
Don't like anything about what's involved in getting one started...? 2 choices:
1) Avoid rolling one altogether; remember, it's YOUR choice.
2) Roll one with a totally open mind & let your OWN experience guide your final decision to keep/trash the character you end up with.

... cue the downraters; I expect them - the upraters are the ones that surprise me. :)

*EDITED: Historical accuracy

I do think however that they should make demon hunters available to maybe 1 or 2 more races? just to give people more of an option I know it wouldn't really make sense if they allowed gnomes to be one but it would be a nice variation

I know you get 100 boost when you buy the expansion but I want to hang onto that or even use it before the release of Legion. It's just it tells you that you get talents at level 99 etc...so do they come high level start point like a DK?

The double jump and glide feels so immersive and amazing in game. I already love my DH and she doesn't even have a name (or race) yet!

My only 'issue' with demon hunters is that I don't like the females' demon form and I prefer to play female toons.

Guess I'm rolling male elves then :P

Comment by Zeth1994

This might be completely irrelevant but I think it would be kinda cool if Illidan in the Well of Eternity dungeon had some extra dialog towards Demon Hunters, just like he does with people wielding the Warglaives.

Comment by addekallstrom

The movement of Demon Hunters is retarded. If Blizzard can't see that it makes me sad. It's ridiculous. The problem we have in WoW is that movement has been going up and up and up ever since vanilla. It was fine in TBC and ok in Wrath, but it's a problem that's grown out of proportion ever since. It needs to be fixed, not increased. Demon Hunters will destroy wow. Sad to see it go.

Comment by Taenamyr

My questions is will you be able to transmog the Glaives? The legendary set out of Black Temple count as a sword as a weapon type. Will the artifact Glaives count as a sword as well? Thinking about trying to match cool looking things to transmog for this class just like any other.

Will they have other weapon types that are acceptable for transmog as well? Or just swords if they are even allowed to transmog them at all?

Comment by Starden

I'm curious...

Since from the preview of the Night Elves and Blood Elves, will the Vengeance (Tank) Spec be taller than the Havoc (DPS) Spec?

Comment by Sounalius

Hero Classes!

As much as i'm bouncing for this class,I get the feeling that this is going to be one of the worst things to ever happen to roleplay. Taverns filled with demon hunters trying to have casual drinks with everyone. It was already bad enough with people playing demon hunters and there not being a class to justify it.

Comment by polaski4life

Well i just think that demon hunters will be able to glitch around with the double jump, which means... yeah more ways to access old naxx and old outland, but then that's a good thing IMHO, since people would be able to explore old WoW.

Demon Hunters only have 2 specs:

Prepared and not prepared.

Comment by QueenSylvanas

based on what blizzard pronounced , and based on what we expected from the game since 2007, we can discuss this in 3 ways:

RP: 1.the Demon Hunter Class is something that the game should have provided a long time ago , back when the sparks of TBC was in the news and we wanted a taste of what was and will be our life time Dream, but late is better than never i guess, although i really despise the fact that Blizzard is going through a contagious plague, we've seen earlier in most popular long Run games, which is : Digging up the Dead ! the Blizzard started this thing with WOD, to presumeably save WOW from a severe extinction after the the release of expansion 5.0.0 . and the Fact that they decided to Dig up Illidan's grave and bring him back because they need a paragon for their new class ( which in Lore, is more ancient than any other class) , is vexing me Greatly, but then, Illidan is actually an Eternal Character, from whose shadows (Along with banshee queen and Lich king) Blizzard has been Risen from the Humble begginings to the Crown Jewel of all MMORPG . so even if they digged him up like Grom Hellscream, the character's popularity is overshadowing the sad fact !
2.the other fact is the Rise of the WARDEN, along with her prisoner Illidan, Maiev Shadowsong whose name is very well known to WC3 Frozen throne & TBC lovers, is a Welcome Sight in the new Expansion's Release, which begs the question: Are we gonna see her carrying out her old resentment towards the betrayer, or will they form some sort of truth and work towards a commong goal?
3.the last RP fact which i would like to mention, is the disappointing Arrival of the Artifact Weapons, which litterally ( in a RP wise way) outclasses and outdates all of the Old vanilla, until WOLTK , legendaries and artifacts to which' stories we held on for a long long time, think of them as the crown jewel of the story's beauty and grace, something that would never happen again and it was something that you either bear witness to or you would miss forever ! . these artifact weapons make those old RP items which we held on to with our lives ( literally) completely absolete , because those weapons had only a HINT of what we wanted to be and yet that was the very thing that encouraged us to go further and find better artifacts to represent our RP characteristic in the game. but the arrival of these artifacts make the Characteristic Figure of the RP gamers completely absolete and more importantly respresenting some sort of a personality with the weapons and artifacts you gathered and you have on you , is now open season for all, because hey : i have this artifact weapon which i had by just starting a quest which i didnt even understand what it was about, and yet i have a cool artifact which far outclasses your old and foolish vanilla legendary weapons and armor, you're Such an idiot RP player ! and there it goes, with the release of the Legion expansion, you can say all the work you've done to respresent some sort of a character of a race or a cult or anything, all the time you spent to gather those legendaries will be all for nothing, because some newbie, who spent daddy's dollars to boost to lvl 110 , can complete a quest and get an artifact which worth more than all of those years of hard work of yours for getting one legendary item to represent a personality you have longed for !

PVP: i can say that the game is going to a real fall out PVP wise, since the coming of the stupid expansion 5.0.0 , the talents system was completely destroyed and the creativity and skill that we spent to get the right abilities and talents for that small windows of advantage over the guys who had a lets say unfitting talent tree, was completely GONE... forever gone out of the game the only way that the pvp could have been a little more exciting and not just copycat-ing and clone-ing each other's talents ! and we expected them to come to an understanding that this new pvp system sucks ; but instead they came up with this AWESOME NEW IDEA TO DESTROY PVP SYSTEM FOREVER, by making a PVP TALENT TREE, which begs the player to just go Clone Himself/herself, of some guy with better ilvl, and kick the Creativity out of their system completely!

PVE: the fact that they mentioned their disservice to the dungeons was a real bit of relief for me personally, it means we are gonna soon see a new system of dungeons which would make them more than just a ONE TIME THING BEFORE I GET BETTER ITEMS FROM THAT RAID ; which begs the question : Are we gonna see dungeons hard enough to be in need of a guide or real-time strategy to overcome, or was that talk of disservice towards dungeons only about making a more beautiful site out of dungeons or cooler costumes for mobs and monsters? I SURE HOPE THEY MAKE A REAL DIFFRENCE ABOUT THE DIFFCULTY OF THE DUNGEONS AND RARER ITEMS RATHER THAN MAKING JUST FANCIER DUNGOENS WITH MORE DOLLS AND TOYS INSIDE!

Comment by eded47

I wonder if raids like BT will have special added dialogue that only DHs get. It's like Illidan says "TRAITOR! PREPARE TO DIE!" if a Demon Hunter attacks him in BT. Or in Well of Eternity Illidan says stuff like "Your power, impressive.... very impressive."

Comment by Improcya

So awesome! Cant wait Legion :X :X <3 <3

A really abysmal review imho. There're some generalities then SIMS-like info about what the gear looks like. Nothing about the play, the differences between the specs (other than there are two), nothing. Disappointing the Sunday before DH rolls out on Tuesday

What would have been fun and work better ,in my opinion, all classes could become Demon Hunters. They would have lost some abilities and spells but gained Demon Hunter (Training) powers (traits ,abilities and skills).
