All you need to do is get the letter from the quartermaster who is near the UBRS/LBRS entrance.

Once you have the letter you start the quest and you need to go through UBRS and kill General Drakkisath and touch the orb to finish the quest.

You will then be attuned to BWL and able to use the outside orb to enter BWL.

Hmm. Appears this quest can no longer be completed. I got the quest from the orders but when I finally got to General Drakkisath, there was no orb to be found. Guess that got pulled from the game when they removed the attunement to BWL. Would be nice if they'd remove this quest as well... just to be tidy.

What i don't understand is why this quest is listed as "dungeon" in my log if you have to enter UBRS to kill him (which is a raid unless I'm very confused)...

At 80 it's possible to stealth behind Drakkisath and his guards to click on the orb. Maybe I got lucky, but doing so didn't draw aggro. Good thing too, because Drakkisath was the only boss in UBRS that proved to tough to solo. It's probably doable with good gear, but not my quest greens and blues.

Just solo finished this quest as a 60 Prot Paladin (Merkinjerk, Frostwolf). Had about 5.6% hit chance which added a grip of JoL and SoL heals.

Everything up to Drakkisath was soloable to some extent. The group of 5 right before Drakk took two attempts; on the first try I killed the Captain (MS was my demise) and promptly died. Without the MS debuff the remaining 4 were easy kills.

As far as clicking the orb, I figured I would bubble and be fine to complete the quest, but the mobs crowded the orb and before I knew it I was getting dom'd. Luckily I spam clicked until I dodged 3 hits in a row and was able to turn in the quest just before dying. :)

I confirm that this quest CAN'T be shared, everyone must kill Scarshield Quartermaster and get the item.
Scarshield Quartermaster is marked as "rare" but he respawn in few minutes.

Well, get it before it's too late, then; just completed today at 85 as an arms warrior, took around 20 minutes to do the quest, mostly because I couldn't find the way (as always) to reach the general, but in the end I discovered it was enough going through dragonspire hall, go near the entrance of BWL, then kill the beast (if you want) and then drakkisath, all at the same floor. The beast does a lot of fall damage, but I think I was able to solo it back at 80 with very bad gear (never done a dungeon at the times), the only thing I couldn't solo at the time was drakkisath, due to his guards that even if killed respawn.

Then I tested the orb and it says blackwing lair is not available at normal difficulty, but I think it was because I wasn't in a raid group, cause it happened the same for molten core attunement.

I tried killing the Scarshield Quartermaster so many times but he never dropped the letter. After giving up, I went to the green Orb of Command that's up the path from him and to the left, at the end of the hall, in the opposite direction to get to UBRS. I clicked on the Orb of Command and it took me to Blackwing Lair. Maybe Blizz changed it so you don't need Blackhand's Command or maybe I did it so long ago that I can't remember. Either way, clicking on the Orb of Command worked for me.

This is for BWL Attunement. Basically, you loot the letter from the guy on the right before you enter UBRS, read the letter for the quest, then go all the way to the end, kill the general, then touch that glowing orb that's behind him. BAM, you're BWL attuned.

ivanov: this quest lets you go directly into BWL without passing through UBRS. Yes you can do it in a raid, might as well pick it up if you go on a general run.

I am a druid so I stealthed to him and soloed him very easily got the quest from him. Then a member of my guild was in a full 15 man raid and was on Drak so after they killed him and the first people started to leave he had leader invite me then I entered UBRS he summoned me and I touched the orb and was done. Very easy.

Just walk stright ahead from the right side of the BRS portal (outside the instance)... there are 3 groups of 2 guards before you get to the quartermaster. Easy soloable, for a 60 hunter at least. with my priest I just happened to be there when someone was killing em for fun.

it drops from the scarshield guartemaster and he can be find when u enter blackrockmountain from burning steppes find the chains climb them up and jump into the black area go right behind some statue and u'll see a cliff yust jump over it ! then when u are in the room when u see ubrs go right and kill all the mobs and the scarhield guartemaster who drops it im lvl 60 paladin and killed him its pretty easy

Hey, i've have killed the quatermaster lots of times but i don't seem to get the letter. One time i grouped with a mage to kill the quatermaster, after he was dead the mage could loot the letter but i didn't. Any idea's how this can be?

me (60 rogue) and 60 mage did this in less then five minutes. Ran past the beginning two, didnt aggro. Killed the second two, then sapped one guy, sheeped the other, killed the guy and grabbed the letter, then ran into ubrs to get off the aggro. Easy stuff. :)

The orbs needs to glow when you touch it so you get the "print" on your hand.
The orb won't start to glow unless you kill drakki.

i'm a lvl 60 full resto druid. First time i tried, i went to the broken ledge and tried to just pull the quartermaster but he brought 2 friends and i died. 2nd time, i went to the ramp directly to the left and starfired and moonfired the acolyte. get him down first since he heals... I just kept hots on myself as he did and when he finally ran out of power, i killed him. Watch it though, he runs away. I couldnt stop him fast enough so i moonfired him down and then went cat mode and sprinted into instance.. stealhed my way back, then tried to pull the other guard solo but this one brings the quartermaster. I killed the guard first, then stunned the quartermaster, healed myself and /win.

Easily done as a 59 priest, just mind soothed my way down to him, he was with a caster and a melee guard. mind soothed the two guards so I could get close enough to the quartermaster, mind controlled him and had him beat on his guards until the guards had him down to 10% or so. Cancelled MC and 1 shotted him with Mind Blast, looted quest item, feared and ran. Worked perfectly :D

Yeh so pretty easy was bored and hadnt done it so thought might aswell

First go to blackrock mountain and go by the instance portal to BRS, go down the corridor halfway and go down a ramp sort of, then you will see 3 mobs 1 healer 1 normal like warrior and a quarter-person.

You can pull the 2 and the quarter person doesnt aggro so its pretty easy kill the acolyte first (he heals&renews; btw) and then kill other once killed them go for the one left over :P

kill him he will drop the quest item start it and get a gr00p to UBRS fight to the end and defeat drakki, once drakki is defeated click on the orb statue where he usually stands and voila now attund to BWL :)

I killed the quartermaster twice, he didn't drop the letter. I have the quest, but it is gray to me. (I'm level 70). That might have something to do with it but not sure. Kinda sucks though I can't get into BWL now.

As a 67 pala I was looking for a group to get this attunement, turns out someone just finished the instances and I JUST caught the last person before they left. They were nice enough to stay, but I soon discovered they'd actually done a stealth run so, while the boss wasn't there to stop me, all the mobs from the egg room to drakkisath's room were there. I managed to get to the end using invisibility pots, though, using this method.

Required:
3 Lesser Invisibility Pots
2 Invisibility Pots
(if you want to be safe just use 5 invisibility pots)

-Go in the instance, to have completed it the stealth runners must have cleared up to the dragonkin egg room. When you meet the first 2 dragonkin, use a lesser invisibility pot and run as fast as you can past them, then up the ramp as far as you can go. At the top of the ramp there are more dragonkin, so get far away from that point by running along the ledge. Ideally you re-emerge in the center of the ledge
-Kill the dragonkin pat, should be no problem if you're level 67+ of any class. Another orc pat will come down the ramp furthest away from the slope you just came up, you need to kill him, try to kill the dragonkin before having to deal with him
-Once they're both dead, you should be facing 4 dragonkin up the slope the orc pat came from. Use one of the 18 second invis pots to run up the ramp and all the way to where you fight rend, jump down
-Wait 10 minutes for pot CD. Use a larger one then run through the gate, up the ramp, through the room, then stop halfway down the second ramp behind a pillar. Kill the pat (harder than the last) then wait for pot CD to finish.
-Use a lesser invisibility pot and run to exactly halfway across the bridge. Wait for CD to finish then use another and run the rest of the way to the orb to complete attunement

just did this last night with my guild. Easy as pie. We just killed the quartermaster over and over until the letter dropped. We all looted it and proceeded to kill the General. The Orb is right behind him. Very easy attunement quest. Off the BWL!

Once you have looted the Blackhand's Command you have to go into UBRS and kill General Drakkisath and use the orb behind him to complete the quest. You are now ready to enter Blackwing Lair. To enter you have to use the orb behind the Scarshield Quartermaster

Hey, i've killed the quatermaster lots of times but the letter will not drop for me. One time i grouped with a mage, we killed the quatermaster, (i attacked first) the mage could loot the letter but i couldn't! Just my luck... I've killed him over and over and over again but the letter will not drop... Any idea's how this could be?

Beginning quest for BWL, i think its like the attunement quest for MC, but for BWL. Get it from the Scarshield Quartermaster down the hall from UBRS. All you gotta do is "use" the orb behind drakkisath and your done, not even a turn in ^_^

Of course the loot tables say that this does not even drop with 50%, but is that because that people kill him more than once and therefore do not get the item every time? Or is it because there is not a 100% loot chance on this as FabienDejaVu suggests (see below)?

Blackhand's Command not dropping on EU servers as of january 10'th

Just killed Scarshield Quartermaster on Dreadmist-EU. Blackhand's Command didn't drop from him yet. Maybe this is only release on US servers atm?

It is now possible to start this quest in Classic for both US and EU realms!

To start this quest for your Blackwing Lair attunement, you need to kill the Scarshield Quartermaster inside Blackrock Mountain and loot the Blackhand's Command from him. This will start the quest Blackhand's Command.

You then need to enter the Upper Blackrock Spire, kill General Drakkisath, and turn in the quest to the Drakkisath's Brand behind him.

I case you forgot if you've completed this attunement quest or not, paste the following script into the in-game chat and press Enter:

If the result is True, then you've completed this quest.

You might be asked if you'd like to run custom scripts, that's up to you to decide.
This particular script is safe and can be used to check all other quest completions (just replace 7761 with another quest's ID that can be seen in WoWhead URL).

The orb you click is at the end of UBRS behind General Drakkisath. You can join an already cleared instance to touch the orb though, so it's just as easy to find a cleared instance someone invites you to unless your looking for boss drops.

Still easy to complete in a few minutes.

You are in front of the entrance to Blackrock Spire. The Scarshield Quartermaster is located in the hallway to your right leading to a little orb. The NPC drops Blackhand's Command. This item will begin the quest Blackhand's Command. To complete this, get to the end of the UBRS and use the shining orb behind General Drakkisath.
Once completed, you can use the orb at the Scarshield Quartermaster to instant teleport to Blackwing Lair.

Be advised: You DO NOT need to kill Drakkisath to complete the quest. All you need is to click on the orb. The easy way to do this is to grab an instance that has already been cleared.

If you see a gold dot in LBRS near the entrance don't worry it's the General upstairs in UBRS

That is one stupid orc. It would appear as if you need to find this brand and gain the Mark of Drakkisath in order to access the Orb of Command.

The letter indicates that General Drakkisath guards the brand. Perhaps you should investigate.

Description

Imbecile,

I hold very little faith in your ability to prevent outsiders from accessing the master's lair. In the very likely event of your death, this orb has its own failsafe built in to prevent outsiders from teleporting directly into Blackwing.

Only those with the Mark of Drakkisath branded upon their hand may make use of this orb. Thankfully, Drakkisath is not nearly as incompetent as you, Quartermaster. He guards the brand himself!
