Will the character achievement 1000 fish count for this as well?

If so, you only need 10 leveled fishermen in your guild.

This is a Guild achievement, so we all start at 0 when GA's are implemented with Cataclysm on December 7.

Oh, and here's a link to what is and what is NOT in 4.03a. (That's just to prevent anyone thinking that GA's are coming before Cataclysm proper, they aren't.)

Just like to point out that under the title it says "Catch 10,000 fish", but under Criteria, it says "Catch 50,000 fish."

It says "catch fish" but it also counts Volatile Water fished from schools.

I'd estimate this achievement takes about 500 hours of dedicated fishing. That's quite a long time for one person, but split 10 ways over two weeks, it's only about 3.5 hours/day.

I was all excited about this achieve (being the nerd that i am) because I remembered that in northrend you can usually catch 2 fish per pool, cutting the time taken for this in half. Unfortunately blizz was apparently one step ahead of me in this thought because only the actual fish counts...not the pygmy suckerfish as well. Kinda a bummer, but just thought I'd give a warning to anyone who may have been thinking along the same line as me.

"That's A Lot of Bait" - Ironically you don't need any Bait and have a 100% success chance at fishing from pools even with a skill of 001.

I caught 90% of the pool fish needed for this guild achievement. The majority of the pool fishing was done in Deepholm, Twilight Highlands, and Uldum. It took a total of 45 hours to catch 9000 pool fish with two toons.

A single fisherman rate of 1.66 fish per minute can be expected under favorable conditions of low pool competition, minimal travel distance between pools, and seldom fighting mobs.

Two toons fishing at the same time can catch an average of 100 fish every half hour. Optimal conditions of zero competition and close pool clusters can yield 120-130 fish every half hour.

Step 1: Take a bunch of people to Borean Tundra.
Step 2: Kill an animal and get the blood debuff.
Step 3: Jump in the water and spawn a blood pool.
Step 4: Let everyone fish there.

Now, using 25+ people expand upon that, those pools count, even though you aren't catching actual fish. With 25 people this makes it take about 3-4 hours. Just have dedicated pool spawners and dedicated fishers.

I came here to ask if anyone knew if the daily quests that makes it so you catch 2 things at once, cuts the time in half. So go to test that part out for me and use that information for yourself.

Hopefully they reduce the amount, I see all the suggestion, but we all know that in most guilds, maybe 3 people if so many fish..

my guild is up to 1000+ and I caught most of those.

i do this achieve for guilds get paid tons of money and get to keep and sell the fish i make bank because of this.

Can I just say how dumb it is that this requires fish from pools when only agi users and tanks want such fish, and everyone else wants open water fish (or not fish at all). /sigh

I caught a little over 100 Deviate Fish in about 45 minutes. This included travel time between the three ponds.

100/45= 2.2 fish per minute.

I think that Blizz should make it so that when you are fishin in Borean Tundra (or wherever else) you are fishing and receive more than one item you get credit for ALL of those items, and not just the cast. I think this would encourage people to fish more within their guilds.

This is by far (in my own opinion) the most hateful of all achievements. I hate it, I abo$%^&ely hate it...why you ask? Because fishing is boring, according to my fellow guildmates, PvP is so much more fun. So guess whom is stuck flitting around grumbling to herself while she fishes? Yep...ME!

It's not just grumbline mind you. But for a small guild, catching 10k fish is a bit excessive, since there are some guilds out there that have only 10-15 members in them, would it not be far to say...maybe 5k fish, 7500 fish? For the love of Azeroth...

Just a little addition: what about combining the fish with meat? Say 5k fish, and 5k meat from animals to make a feast? You would still have to grind, but you can at least help out a skinner/LW with their professions if you thrown in a meat combo. Why on earth does Blizz want to give us Mercury poisoning with all this bloody fish? And who knows what Deathwing has been doing in the water....EWWWWWWW

You can hire a 'fisherman' for this achievement.

Try putting a shout out in trade like "1g paid for each fish fished from pools when you join guild"

I had like 4 replies and now paying 3k to finish the last 3000 fishes after our small 10 man team got bored of the fishing.

Speckled Tastyfish from Tastyfish pools spawned during the STV fishing Tournament count towards this. After the tournament ends the pools stay up for a few hours.

This is also a good place to catch a rare fish for The One That Didn't Get Away

I've been working for this achievement pretty much on my own for our guild off and on. Since no one else fishes it's come to the point that another cook brings the personal +90 foods and hands them out to the raid. I wouldn't mind it so much if only the fish I really cared about came from pools: deepsea sagefish for my mage and lavascale catfish for my paladin. If those 2 had pools I'd gladly fish up the 7k or so left for the achievement, but as it is I'm slowly raising it as I fish for fathom eels and volatile fires.

You just go round the pond fishing in the pools, by the time you've gone round once they've started respawning. sometimes they hadn't so i just killed a mammoth near the water, jumped in and fished in the pool of blood, then carried on with the musselback sculpin pools as they'd respawned :) hope this helps anyone trying to do this achievment quickly

EDIT: Got 63 "things" in just under 15 mins by doing this

The easiest pools I found for this achievement are the pools of Deviate Fish. So far, I haven't come across anyone else fishing from those pools. The most fish I caught from a single pool was 12, not many other pools have that many fish in them.

If you want to make some money from your fish:
The drop rate for the recipe has increased a lot, and so it's also a lot cheaper to buy from the AH. But the fish themselves still sell for quite a bit on most servers (100 gold per stack on mine), so fishing these is easy and profitable!

Another easy place is Stranglethorn Vale, just run along the coastline and you'll find plenty of fishing pools. The Oily Blackmouths and Firefin Snappers you'll mostly be catching might sell on the AH since they're needed for leveling alchemy.

You have to fish from a school to get credit.

My guild held a few fishing contests to work towards the new recipe. First one was how many fish can you catch in one hour from level appropriate pools (to make it fair for low level players) using no fishing buffs and no mounts. And the second contest was all out fish no holds barred. The best place to fish is... my best place to fish. Hunters secret. The prize is 1000 gold and the recipe but we didn't get the achievment the first time. This is a great idea for working towards it but the winnings need to be more practicle if you are far from the 10,000 fish mark. I was able to fish 153 in one hour. I will still have to wait until Winter Veil to get the Iron Chef Achievment.

The pool you fish The Lurker Below from in Serpentshrine Cavern counts for the achievement. If you have an 85 hunter with fishing you can easily sneak your way to the Lurker pool and fish from it until he is caught. Then when he attacks you, feign death. He resets and the pool respawns in about 15 seconds.

Unlike normal pools this one is impossible to miss so you don't have to "aim". You also don't have to fly around looking for one. So if you don't care about getting a sea turtle or any decent fish (it's all sagefish and junk) this is a decent way to work on the achievement if you have the time. You usually get about 1-8 casts before he's summoned. Not sure if this is more time efficient than flying around fishing from pools but I didn't see it mentioned above.

The name "That's a Lot of Bait" reminds me of the phrase "That's a lot of fish" and therefore makes me think of That Guy with the Glasses, episode 175 - Godzilla (1998). I guess I should have thought about Godzilla at first but it wasn't as funny as the Nostalgia Critic review. ;)

A good way to check for good zones to fish in, check the Volatile Water and Crystallized Water pages and then click the "Fished In" tab. Since pretty much all nodes have a chance of droping them it will show you all those nodes in every zone.

On a side note I would recommend cooking your fish as it will make Set the Oven to "Cataclysmic" easier.

I am soloing this for my 2 person guild.
I think I started at around 4500 fish caught before I started working on it. I had been doing fishing tourneys, and had fished up both Mr. Pinchy (the Magical Crawdad), and the Sea Turtle.

I have been doing the fishing in Mt Hyjal, and cooking the fish to get the cooking achievement.

Set a daily goal for yourself, and cook the fish and continue the grind.

By the time I am done, and I am close, I will have spent 3 to 4 weeks fishing and cooking just to get the achievements and recipes. I have also made a decent amount of gold with volatile water and volatile fire.

We got the guild achievement by holding weekly fishing derbies. Mostly we thought smart and used fish that we knew we would need for the recipe once we unlocked it, but occasionally we would throw people off by having them fish something totally random up, such as Deviate Delights.

The quickest way to farm this up is to pick up Blood Is Thicker in Dalaran, create pools of blood in Borean Tundra, and amass a large number of guildmates to alternate between spawning numerous pools and fishing from them.

The smart way is to hire fishermen and pay them 1-2 g a fish. Let them keep the fish. What is 10000 to 20000 g to a guild?

In the end you get Recipe: Seafood Magnifique Feast which helps a lot when your after Iron Chef.

Some schools last longer than others. The Sagefish Schools in the Wetlands, for example, are good for around 7 catches, while most of the wreckage schools only give 2-3 catches.

If you don't care about loot, choosing the lower level pure fish schools are a faster way to get this achievement.

Also, if you click the bobber when it splashes but don't loot, it'll still count for the achievement without filling up your inventory with useless fish. :)

Catching 2 fish with Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm activated still only counts as 1 towards this achievement.
